In reply to: Group/Profile Cover Photo Issue
It’s probably more your theme requires extra CSS to correctly display the image. If you can link to your site to a profile with an example cover photo, you stand a better chance of someone here helping.
In reply to: Wierd Buddypress IssueI have no idea where or what BuddyPress might be doing to cause that. More likely, it’s causing some issue with custom code. I think you might have to debug it, if you know PHP.
In reply to: How to override bp_core_signup_user function? Not possible to override it. But, remember filters are also actions. You just need to return a value, but you can do anything you want in between.
Looking at the default use of this function, how about using the
bp_signup_usermetafilter (or something else inbp_core_screen_signup)?Right, the image had a ton of broken links so I unpublished it. I don’t personally have any time to fix the content, so we can either delete the page, or someone can edit it to make it work without content.
In reply to: Users cannot register since update 2.53If you’re familiar with MySQL, and know how to do this, are you able to look in your site’s
wp_usersandwp_signupstable, and then try to create a new account, and see if you can find it in those tables? In reply to: Users cannot register since update 2.53Did anything else update at the same time? Anything?
2.5.3 contained changes to email implementation, and a security fix regarding user activation. The latter is most likely cause.
What theme are you using? Do you have a custom registration template (did you make one)? What other plugins do you have running? Are you on multisite or regular WordPress?
Can you think of any other useful information regarding any customisations around user or site registration?
Thank you for getting in contact with the BuddyPress team. Some of the attitudes displayed in this discussion have not been respectful and are not conducive to a productive conversation, so I am going to close this topic for that reason only. If anyone has questions about this moderation action and is prepared to discuss them civily, you can find my contact details on https://profiles.wordpress.org/djpaul/.
All projects, including bbPress, BuddyPress, and WordPress, appreciate responsible reporting of suspected vulnerabilities. Read this page on the WordPress site for reporting guidelines for all the aforementioned projects: https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/testing/reporting-security-vulnerabilities/
@djsteveb On the whole, the BuddyPress team enjoys a good working relationship with rtMedia, and we have often discussed issues when it’s vague when the root cause lies. I appreciate that it’s frustrating to be passed from pillar-to-post when you’re trying to get support or report a problem. If you still have the information, I’d encourage you to get in contact with the rtMedia team to start the conversation.
In reply to: Menu translationHi @paulrooms
The Italian translation of BuddyPress is up to date: https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/it/default/wp-plugins/buddypress
For the menu items (at least what I think you mean), you’ll need to go into wp-admin > Pages > Edit, and just rename/translate the pages yourself.
In reply to: email notification activity stream@alexdex, there’s no point in shouting. As @sharmavishal and @danbp have said, you’d need to develop a custom notification and to do that, you’ll need a basic understanding of PHP and a familiarity with WordPress’ APIs for plugin development.
You’ll be lucky to find someone with enough time and desire to figure this out for your free, to be honest. I think writing such a thing, while it seems simple, could get pretty complicated because of the number of places the Activity Stream is used, and the various internal config tweaks for each.
In reply to: Cover photo not showing@nnyorker Are you using a custom theme?
I think certain types of custom themes have to opt-in for cover image support. @imath will know 🙂
In reply to: change username to display nameI am pretty sure this this not easily changeable and is hardcoded to use the login or nicename (depending on the value of the
BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODEconstant; https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/filters-reference/).Problem with display name is that because people can change that (unless you customise a site to prevent people doing that, but that’s not something we want to force on in BuddyPress), you can have situations where people swap display names (accidentally or maliciously) and then start receiving at-mentions intended for other people, etc.
In reply to: Creating/sending HTML emails@navyspitfire BuddyPress does not use
wp_mail(), so any calls to that function are ignored and not treated with BuddyPress’ email templating. If your BuddyPress emails were being sent plain text, then that means you have a plugin that re-declares the
wp_mail()function — probably your SMTP plugin, I’d guess. There are other SMTP plugins that don’t redeclare the function, and so compatible with BuddyPress. We fallback to plain text in these cases to maximise compatibility with all the many ways of customising emails that WordPress permits.
The equivalent function is
bp_send_email(), and for the type of email you mention, here’s an example usage: https://github.com/buddypress/BuddyPress/blob/master/src/bp-core/bp-core-filters.php#L533In reply to: Broken image on codexThanks, I’ll have to see what we can do.
In reply to: BP Activity @mention display_nameClosing this thread; continue discussion on linked thread above.
In reply to: Error on my template home page using buddypressThis is not a BuddyPress problem. It’ll be a issue with the PHP you’ve added. You’re probably missing a semi-colon from the previous line, or something.
In reply to: Users cannot register since update 2.53What version did you update from (where it was working?) 2.5.2?
In reply to: Email Notifications on Group ActivityNot out-of-the-box.
In reply to: @mention autosuggest in visual editorThe change reported in https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6972 has been added to BuddyPress trunk, and will be included in BP 2.6.
In reply to: How to Remove Buddypress RegistrationDo not edit core BuddyPress files. Next update, it’ll be replaced and you’ll have to do it all over again.
In reply to: email notifications stopped for @ mentions, repliesBuddyPress 2.5 made a lot of changes to how BuddyPress works with emails. We’ve been making incremental fixes and compatibility improvements in each release since, and we have v2.5.3 almost ready for sometime in the next couple of weeks or so.
People still having problems could try running https://en-au.wordpress.org/plugins/bp-email-to-wp-mail-from-bridge/ to see if it helps, but we have other fixes in place for v2.5.3 that aren’t provided by this plugin.
In reply to: How to Remove Buddypress RegistrationIf you delete the page, I think you can probably just ignore that banner notification. It’s only telling you that the page isn’t set, but you already know that, because you’ve done it on purpose.
There isn’t a way to remove the nag message.
In reply to: WP Notices after installationThanks. This isn’t actually a bug in BuddyPress, but we flag it to reveal code in other plugins running at the wrong time because quite often this can cause very subtle problems in BuddyPress and other plugins.
We’ve very recently adjusted the messaging to make it clearer which plugin is causing us to trigger this notice: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/10709/
FYI
wp_mail_from_nameandwp_mail_fromsupport are coming back in BuddyPress 2.5.3. Thanks to everyone’s feedback regarding this.In reply to: BuddyPress Email Issues with New InstallationThere is one other tweak that’s coming up in BuddyPress 2.5.3 (not sure when it’ll be released, would guess a week or two) that might address it. After 2.5.3, BuddyPress should be identical with WordPress in terms of compatibility with the majority of plugins that help WordPress support SMTP.
For the record, if you’re running a plugin that defines
wp_mail()that helps you have WordPress’ emails be sent, then it just won’t work with BuddyPress. In reply to: BuddyPress Email Issues with New InstallationDoes adding https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-email-to-wp-mail-from-bridge/ help?
