i tried repairing the WP database but it still wont work
this issue is posted all across their forums and no-one has ever received a decent reply from BP dev’s.
here’s just a few of the many i’ve read trying to solve this over the past week:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/registration-reload-error-lets-get-this-solved/
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-refreshing-on-register-to-blank-page/

https://buddypress.org/support/topic/can-not-register-since-upgrade-to-1-2-1-it-just-refreshes-the-main-page/
http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/cant-register-new-bp-account-helpthe two possible workarounds i found didnt work with the latest release. This is clearly an issue many people are having with Buddypress and have been for a long time. it would be really helpful if the devs could work out what is causing it.
From my reading i’m suspicious that it is conflicts with junk left in the database by other plugins, which have since been deleted. but that’s not based on much actual understanding of the issue – and i wouldnt know how to repair this without deleting my site.
i tried the code to disable BP register and that causes the whole site to load a blank page. doesnt seem to in BP 4.0 :/
bump
not just me asking this, i’ve looked on forums all over and it seems to be a common bug. as mine was a freash BP+WP install and isnt theme or plugin related i would speculate that maybe its related to a conflict server side, although i have no idea what it could be
.bump please
would that not remove many of the buddypress features available to members who sign up to your site?
i tried uninstalling and reinstalling budypress. no change.
ah yes, i have updated the permalinks thanks
ah, so the issue is that the register button doesnt work. the page refreshes but nothing else happens.
i rcently updated buddypress and changed theme, which i think should have wiped everything and i havent made any edits since. the issue isnt coming from a plugin, or the theme – so thinking about it i guess it must be an issue with the buddypress install.
BP components have a dedicated page set. pretty permalinks i’m not sure, i’ll check. no child theme as i’ve not made any customisations to the site yet.
did you mean you were able to register? the page loads fine for me but doesnt navigate to the homepage after registration, or create a new user.
Thanks very much for your reply!
i had the issue with another theme and switched to the standard one and then this one in the hope to fix it.
i’ve tried without the landing page plugin and get the same error with a different .js code:
before i click sumbit:
Uncaught ReferenceError: pm is not defined focallocal.org/:1095
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://focallocal.org/register/tab.css/

is it likely its coming from the theme? i notice an error with tab.css seems to be quite prominant across the site, is that the same issue you pointed out? thanks very much
i get this in the JS console (tho i cant understand what it says)

i get the same issue and when googling i’ve seen it posted around a lot – but a real absence of solutions.

site is: focallocal.org
i’ve rebuilt my site using a different theme already.
i had to switch themes to the significantly more restricted CyberChimps Free Theme and then restyle it to look like my old theme, it took weeks.
here’s most of the code i added to my child theme to get it to look the same:
article { border: 1px solid #d4d4d4; } .widget-container { border: 1px solid #d4d4d4; } .current-menu-ancestor.dropdown { background-color: #0777FF } #social { float: right; padding-top: 5px; } #logo { padding-top: 25px; } #wp-admin-bar-cyberchimps { display: none; } .main-navigation .navbar-inner { padding: 0px; -webkit-border-radius: 1px; border-radius: 1px; } .navbar-inner { padding: 0px!important; min-height: 40px; padding-right: 0px!important; padding-left: 0px!important; background-color: #fafafa !important; background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff, #f2f2f2)!important; background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, 0 0, 0 100%, from(#ffffff), to(#f2f2f2))!important; background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff, #f2f2f2)!important; background-image: -o-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff, #f2f2f2)!important; background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, #ffffff, #f2f2f2)!important; background-repeat: repeat-x; border: 1px solid #d4d4d4!important; -webkit-border-radius: 4px; -moz-border-radius: 4px; border-radius: 4px; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#ffffffff', endColorstr='#fff2f2f2', GradientType=0)!important; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.065); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.065); box-shadow: 0 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.065); } user agent stylesheetdiv { display: block; } .nav .active > a:focus { color: #ffffff!important; background-color: #0777FF; } .navbar-inverse .nav .active > a, .navbar-inverse .nav .active > a:hover, .navbar-inverse .nav .active > a:focus { background-color: #0777FF!important; } .navbar-inverse .nav > li > a { color: #696969; font-size: 15px!important; text-shadow: 0!important; }
you’ll notice that nearly everything needs !important tags. i dont know why, but it seems you need these to override any code in the the cyberchimps free theme
yes, it does seem to be a conflict with the Response Theme by Cyber Monkeys
this has also broken my forums as any linked to a group dont work anymore
i’ve turned off all my plugins and rebuilt the perma-links, but no change
using response 2.0. it was working working fine with BP 1.8.1 before i updated but now something is broken, even after i downloaded and re-installed 1.8.1.
if you click the link above and then click on any group you’ll see it just opens a blank page.. so all the content has gone. forums, activity, etc.
i have the same issue
I have the same issue. i’m using Response 2.0 Theme by Cyberchimps and have the following plugins the same as brinkin:
BuddyPress Follow
bbPress – Report Contenti deactivated them both but it didnt fix the problem
i want to do exactly this, but for each individual group – and so it would display each groups forum on their homepage.
everything else is non essential but perhaps our members who have signed up to that group and maybe the groups activity feed.
does anyone know if this would be possible?
please and thank you.
this is exactly what i’m looking for, but i’m a little afraid of the amount of coding involved in the guide by @modemlooper if it caused any compatibility issues in the future i doubt i would be able to locate the issue and fix it as my understanding of code is not great right now.
does anyone know of a plugin that does the same as this?
+1
This plugin is exactly what i’m looking for, its a real shame @timcarey stopped updating it. are there any other alternatives to create a frontpage or blog page as a homepage for each of my groups?
i found this: http://bp-tricks.com/featured/creating-a-custom-front-page-for-your-buddypress-groups/ but it doesnt seem like a very clean solution
