In reply to: BP Registration Process
@djpaul has said he will be testing Welcome Pack against BP 1.7 over the next few weeks. Hopefully he will catch any problems if any.
You can use something like
if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
//do something for logged in users only
} else {
//do something everyone can see
}
In reply to: Possible bug – please help testIt’s not a bug is it. But what would you call an issue like that? a usability issue maybe?
In reply to: My Usernames Appended with -2 ??I noticed the henrywright-1 – it hasn’t always been this way. I’m not 100% sure but I think the user database from wordpress.com and wordpress.org was merged with me taking the “-1” username. That is no better than a guess but I can’t think how else the -1 was appended
To help with your problem – if you log into the wordpress dashboard (wp-admin), go to Users > All users. You should see a list of every user that has signed up via BuddyPress. You can perform delete actions on the users you’d like to remove.
In reply to: My Usernames Appended with -2 ??On creating a new slug which isn’t unique, WordPress appends a “-1”.
You should never get to the point where you have duplicate usernames as the registration form has validation preventing registration if the sought after username already exists.
Aside from at the point of registration, do you have anything on your site (plugins or custom code) which allows users to change their username?
In reply to: Welcome Pack Emails Not Sending After BP 1.7 Updateno rush then @djpaul :}
In reply to: Groups pagination get slowerlol @hugo. 80k groups is quite a lot?
In reply to: Groups pagination get slowerI know the new version (1.7 released yesterday) uses the new
BP_User_Querywhich increases member query speed. I think when BP was built originally, the focus was on getting the platform to work. It seems the dev team is now concerned with scalability going forward so hopefully we’ll start to see more speed improvements.@hugo my apologies, I should have said I am displaying the post form on user profile page “member/username/profile”.
I want a user to be able to post an update from this profile page then automatically get redirected to “member/username/activity”
Any ideas how I could achieve this?
In reply to: Subject field in private messagesIt might also be worth removing both the subject column from members/single/messages/messages-loop.php and the h1 heading from members/single/messages/single.php
Users won’t then see “private message” for every message they get sent.
In reply to: How to add a rotation button for changing avatar@mercime tablet and mobile (Android at least) support for image uploads is limited so perhaps that is where the problem may be. Of course, the user could have simply tried to upload an image that was upside down to begin with
In reply to: How to add a rotation button for changing avatarPerhaps mention to the user it would be easier to do this locally on their computer?
A little bit of prep work before they upload isn’t too much to ask and would save you lots of development time.
In reply to: How to hide item list tab on site activityIs it possible to provide a link to your site?
You’d need to find a way of targeting the item-list-tabs element on the homepage. You can usually do this via a parent element that is unique to that page. e.g
#home .item-list-tabs {
//stuff
}
If I could see your site I could suggest how best to specifically target the homepage
In reply to: Disbable all comments in activity streamGot it! a much cleaner solution. This goes in functions.php:
add_filter(‘bp_activity_can_comment’,’__return_false’);
Credit goes to @mercime
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/resolved-remove-comment-under-activity-feed/
In reply to: Disbable all comments in activity streamAs an alternative to @naijaping’s CSS solution I have been toying with the idea of using a blank post-form.php and removing the comments link from activity entries. But, I hate the idea of that approach as the post-form.php template will be still be called each time. There must be a cleaner solution?
Thanks.
Humm, +1 to WP and BP but seen as Android doesn’t fully support it I see no point in making the feature available to users. I’m still hiding the upload feature on mobile devices via CSS media queries
In reply to: Filter out new_avatar in activity 1.7you could always try a CSS option. If the div can be targeted then display: none would hide the entry from the activity stream
In reply to: Activity post form on profile pageSo you can post a status update directly from the following URL?
testbp.org/members/username/profile
I don’t seem to be able to.
In reply to: Video: BuddyPress 1.7 OverviewExcited to see the introduction of bp_user_query to speed things up. +1 to the developers
In reply to: Moving group status updatesNever used the groups feature but wouldn’t changing the group name be an easier option? Sorry if that didn’t help. Just a thought.
In reply to: Ajax buttonsLook for wherever the ‘loading’ class gets inserted via the ajax script then ensure that your CSS selects the right elements in the page. You’ll then see the spinner when you hit the button
In reply to: Custom Login w/ModalI had the same problem as you. Not only is the ‘create an account’ link problematic but also the ‘lost password’ link takes you away from the Bootstrap modal. I felt it was like a juggling act to get everything working together so opted to use the standard BP login and registration pages.
Be good to hear if anyone has a solution to radleaf’s post above.
@modemlooper any news on avatar uploads via mobile devices?
In reply to: bp_profile_field_data( ‘field= … doesn’t workYou will hit problems if you edit the data type of a field once data is stored in the db. e.g changing a text field to a checkbox will cause problems with the documented code as you need to process the array (as @modemlooper pointed out).
The easy way around changing the type of an existing field is to delete field and create a new one (don’t ‘edit’ it).
