The fact that hard-coding the user ID works indicates the problem is with bp_get_member_user_id(). Can you echo it to screen to see what value it returns? And sorry to double-check but are you sure you’re using it within the members loop?

That’s strange. bp_get_member_user_id() will get you the member’s ID if it’s used within the loop. Your code looks sound to me so I’m puzzled as to why this isn’t working.

@hnla that’s even more of a good idea if the site in question has many plugins installed. There’s simply no way of knowing how some plugins will interact with a new version of BP unless they’ve been tested. My advice is, don’t rely on the plugin developer to do it. Instead, set up a test install and do it yourself! Before go live.

Using Twenty Fifteen with just BuddyPress and BuddyPress follow activated, I can’t seem to reproduce the problem. Can you provide some details of your set-up and open a Trac ticket so that it can be investigated? With the default theme and no plugins things should work so I’m a little puzzled. The core dev team will know more.

Ah OK. Take a look at the BuddyPress Template Hierarchy article which should explain how templates work in BP. You’ll need to create your own templates if your theme doesn’t already have them.

You can use the following to do that.

bp_member_profile_data( 'field=the field name' );

Be sure to replace the field name with your actual profile field name. Also note it must be used within the members loop.

Unfortunately, this isn’t currently possible. You’d need to either a) find a plugin or b) write some custom code to do the job for you.

/wp-content/plugin/buddypress/bp-activity/activity-template.php is a core file and you are indeed right to think that any changes you make will be overwritten when you upgrade the plugin.
