In reply to: Registration form doing nothing
There’s something causing the registration form not to submit and that’s likely to be either a rogue plugin, theme or custom code you’ve introduced. The usual troubleshooting steps are to deactivate everything and work forward step-by-step, testing as you go. That’s the only way to determine where the problem has been introduced.
If that particular step creates a group, then the same hook (that I provided earlier) will fire.
Do you think Buddypress can support hundreds of thousands, if not millions of users?
In theory, yes, BuddyPress can handle millions of users. BuddyPress will add rows to the database without problem, and that database can scale to a very large size.
In practice, there are things that might have an impact on that. Your hardware will play a big role. For example, will a million users all be logged in at the same time, each posting a video clip or large image?
I’m not sure what you mean by
create group form?In reply to: Activity Stream Within Two ColumnsYou could use a third-party library such as Masonry?
In reply to: Registration form doing nothingI even wiped my whole functions.php file…
I’m not sure you needed to do that if using TwentyFifteen because only the TwentyFifteen functions.php file will be in force.
In reply to: Registration form doing nothingCan you try on a test install? It may be the ACF plugin and we need to rule that out.
On your test install, be sure there’s no plugins running aside from BuddyPress and have the TwentyFifteen theme activated. Also, remove any custom code you may have elsewhere such as bp-custom.php
In reply to: Is default post deletion possible?Personally I wouldn’t do that. The number of rows in the activity table can be big without problems. If you’re worried about bloat, you could think about limiting the number of characters accepted by the content field. The field is type
LONGTEXTwhich I think means each item can be ~4GB. Some simple front-end validation limiting that to X characters would keep the size down.In reply to: Is default post deletion possible?By post do you mean a WordPress post?
Can we search users who are not in the friendlist?
You can in the site search at example.com/members but elsewhere I’m not so sure. If there was a search box on a member’s profile page then I’d expect that to return that member’s friends only. It wouldn’t make sense to return non-friends. But that’s just my personal opinion.
In reply to: Registration form doing nothingTry disabling all plugins aside from BuddyPress. Sometimes a rogue plugin can interfere with the registration process.
I’m not sure that the standard member search looks for usernames. @danbp can you shed any light on that?
You may need to use the BP Profile Search plugin.
/plugins/bp-custom.php
If you don’t already have one, you should create one yourself.
There may be an easier way via the back-end (I haven’t checked) but via code you could do this in functions.php:
function palmdoc_remove_group_user() { $group_id = 6 // Change this value $user_id = 320 // Change this value groups_leave_group( $group_id, $user_id ); } add_action( 'init', 'palmdoc_remove_group_user' );The next time you visit your website in a browser, the user will be removed from the group.
Whilst you’re not using it just comment out the
add_action()part. For example:// add_action( 'init', 'palmdoc_remove_group_user' );In reply to: Hide Buddypress pages from google serch. You can add this to your robots.txt file:
User-agent: * Disallow: /members/Feel free to add more fields for the different areas of BuddyPress.
Note that it doesn’t guarantee Googlebot et al won’t index these pages, it just requests that they don’t.
do we have to passed argument along with that hook…
It isn’t mandatory but you can if you want to.
$comment_id,$rand$activitycan be passed to your custom function.Ref:
@param int $comment_id ID of the newly posted activity comment. @param array $r Array of parsed comment arguments. @param int $activity ID of the activity item being commented on.In reply to: Using a generic user not found pageA “generic user not found” page would be worse for SEO than a 404 (which would be the correct response for a page not found).
In reply to: How to create a read-only logged-in user?…but a read-only account can still comment, add files to the file repository (Multiverso plugin), add a calendar event, upload photos to the photo album and edit (but not create) wiki articles.
You may need to add custom validation in each of these cases. There should be hooks available at the relevant points which you can attach your custom functions to.
In reply to: How to create a read-only logged-in user?If your site is private then you don’t need a verification procedure. But my point was you should look at the verification procedure because the functionality is very close to what you’re trying to achieve.
In reply to: How to create a read-only logged-in user?I think writing abilities become available only once a user has verified their email address. So a registered but unverified user sounds kind of like what you need. They get a profile page and can browse the site but can’t write.
In reply to: PM – reply by email? That plugin completely crashed my site
Ouch!
The developer of that particular plugin is a BuddyPress core developer so if you open an issue on the plugin’s GitHub repo, he should be able to help 🙂
In reply to: No option to upload profile photo in BPCan you try deactivating all of your plugins whilst you have the TwentyFifteen theme activated? Sometimes a rogue plugin can be responsible.
In reply to: PM – reply by email? You’d need a plugin for this. Check out BuddyPress Reply By Email.
In reply to: Profile SignatureThe
bp_after_profile_contenthook fires after the display of member profile content. You will need to:- Write a custom function to “get” and “output” the signature.
- Hook your custom function to the hook I mentioned above so that the signature is displayed on the profile page.
The
bp_activity_comment_postedhook fires near the end of an activity comment posting, before the returning of the comment ID.
