In reply to: Add users to groups based on email address
These are the steps:
- Write a function which adds a user to a group
- Hook the function to an appropriate hook which fires on successful registration
Notes:
groups_join_group()is the function you’ll need to use to add new members to a group. It will accept the new user’s ID.- Use the
strpos()function to check if the university’s domain appears in the user’s email
Hope this helps!
Hi @whoaloic
Can you open a new topic for this? This thread is resolved. Thanks.
If your website is live, always make sure you set
WP_DEBUGtofalse.WP_DEBUGshould always be set totruein your test website because it will let you (and you only) know when things are wrong. Whilst some debug notices aren’t errors, you should generally try to fix all of them if you can.In reply to: Advice on HostingSupport is key in my experience. Before you sign up to a 12 or 24-month contract, check out the host’s support policy and also search online to hear what their customers are saying. In my personal opinion, there’s nothing worse than an unaccommodating host.
In reply to: Buddypress posting privacyYou can set

Right. So it looks as though it could be something the BuddyPress core team might need to look at. Can you open a Trac ticket explaining how the profile fields are displaying in the wrong order? If you could provide as much info as you can that’d be great.
You can use the same username and password as you use here in the forums.
Try checking the order using the TwentyFifteen theme and if the order is as expected, then that means there might be a problem with the Boss theme. If that’s the case, you should let the BuddyBoss team know so they can hopefully release a fix.
The activity post form that is displayed on the site-wide activity page can be found here. You could use a modified version of that in your profile template?
You could use bp-custom.php for this if a hook is available but an alternative method would be to override the template. Check out the BuddyPress Template Hierarchy article for more info. This approach gives you more control over what exactly is to be displayed on your website.
In reply to: Extended profilesThis can be accomplished using BuddyPress. As to whether you’ll need plugins or custom code, I’d be tempted to say you’ll need to go down the custom route because I haven’t seen a plugin that will do this for you (I may be wrong so check the Plugin Directory first).
In reply to: Buddypress Login PluginIt’s probably worth asking that question on the plugin’s support forum. Hopefully the plugin author will be able to advise.
In reply to: Facebook Group“Your BuddyPress” is a place to show off your wonderful BuddyPress creations. Even though your Facebook group isn’t a BuddyPress creation, it is third-party and seems to be dedicated to BuddyPress so I thought this forum was a fitting place for your post.
Hope that explains why your topic was moved.
In reply to: How Do I Display A Custom Profile Field? You can do that with this:
bp_member_profile_data( 'field=name' );Where
nameis the profile field name.In reply to: Facebook Group[Moved to the “Your BuddyPress” forum]
In reply to: Buddypress Login PluginTheme My Login will allow you to perform a redirect on login. You will need to add the social login button functionality separately. Search the WordPress Plugin Directory for one that works for you and is actively maintained.
Take a look at the BuddyPress Template Hierarchy article. That should answer any questions you have.
In reply to: Email optional in signup pageThis won’t be easily done. If you take a look in
bp_core_screen_signup(), you’ll see it expects the user’s email to be provided. If no email is given, then an error will be reported. In reply to: Content Invisible to GoogleHi @baldarab
What’s the content of your robots.txt file?
In reply to: Content Invisible to GoogleHave you allowed 6-8 weeks for Google to index the pages? It can be that long in some cases.
I doubt
<i class=”fa fa-user”></i>is inserted by BuddyPress. Is it generated by a plugin? In reply to: Query posts by custom fieldI think what @shanebp is saying is you’ll need to collect the user IDs separately and then use that array of IDs in your query.
In reply to: [Resolved] Redirect if user is already logged inTry
bp_core_redirect( bp_get_root_domain() . '/new' );Change
newto whatever you like. This isn’t possible by default. You’d likely need to custom code something like this. Alternatively, you may find a plugin that does something similar.
In reply to: Generic Link to Profile? It should go into your template file.
