In reply to: recommended membership pluginsIn reply to: How To bp_set_member_type?
Hi @ch1n3s3b0y
To set a default member type, try adding this to either your theme’s functions.php file or your bp-custom.php file.
function my_set_default_member_type( $user_id, $user_login, $user_password, $user_email, $usermeta ) { // Set the member's type to student bp_set_member_type( $user_id, 'student' ); } add_action( 'bp_core_signup_user', 'my_set_default_member_type', 10, 5 );In reply to: Inserting activity content via pluginHi @valuser
Could be a stupid question, but have you enabled ‘site tracking’?
In reply to: Private Messaging ‘Page Not Found’ issueThe only thing I can think of is you don’t have permissions to view the message thread. Can you verify that you’re logged-in and you’re one of the message participants? If you’re not authorised to view the thread then I think you’ll see a 404.
A developer will certainly be able to help you with something like this as it isn’t a huge job. Check out the BP Jobs Board, you should be able to find a BP developer there.
In reply to: Page creation for membersExactly, I think you should be able to make your permalinks something like example.com/page-name/author-name
Hi @rlaine
The best place to start your research is the WordPress Plugins Directory. As you’ve mentioned you probably won’t find a single plugin that does everything, it’s instead likely that you’ll need a combination of plugins and perhaps even some custom code written. Regarding accessibility compliance, my advice is select a theme from the Themes Directory and set up a test install where you can try out your plugins. Then run your site through an evaluation tool to see if guidelines are met. A good list of tools is available on the w3c website:
http://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tools/
Hope this helps.
In reply to: Page creation for membersHi @gabsterino
There will most probably be lots in the Plugin Directory but you’ll need to test which are compatible with BuddyPress. WordPress ‘authors’ and BuddyPress ‘members’ are the same fundamentally so compatibility shouldn’t be a problem. But as I say, give them a try before going live.
Hey @tobyhawkins
Can you check if pagination works with the default theme activated (Twenty Fifteen) and all plugins disabled? If you still experience the problem then, I’d suggest opening a ticket on Trac. If the problem goes away then it’s likely to be theme or plugin related.
In reply to: [Resolved] What is the Member Activity URL?@ronia yes but I think in this case username is a variable. So it’ll be something like example.com/members/%%username%% but as I said earlier you’ll need to check with the plugin.
In reply to: How to “Like” ?Hi @disha76
Check out the BuddyPress Template Hierarchy article. The files you need to modify might not be created on your installation – they’re not created by default. You might need to create them yourself. The article will have lots more info on how this can be done.
In reply to: [Resolved] What is the Member Activity URL?Yes, that’s exactly what I want! So, any thoughts on what that URL code should be?
No idea because it’ll depend on the plugin. Likely there’ll be some string-replacement going on but you’d have to ask the plugin’s support team what string the plugin uses for username.
Hope this helps
In reply to: Group URL clashes with page URLPossibly. That’s what you’ll need to check. Quite often the problem is theme- or plugin-related. My advice is to set up a test site which replicates your production site. Then you can make changes (for testing purposes such as this) without impacting your live website.
If the problem remains after you’ve disabled all plugins and activated the default theme then you can raise a ticket on Trac. The core development team can then take a look.
In reply to: Group URL clashes with page URLHi @ivalde
Can you try disabling all of your plugins and activate the Twenty Fifteen theme and let me know if the problem still happens?
In reply to: [Resolved] What is the Member Activity URL?Ah right. I think I understand what you mean. So you’re saying the Social Login plugin gives you the opportunity to redirect users to a certain URL after they’ve logged in. You’d like this to be example.com/members/username where username varies according to who exactly is logging in?
In reply to: [Resolved] What is the Member Activity URL?Hi @flickchicks
The
/username/part is given at sign-up. So when a user visits example.com/register they should see a field called username which they can complete along with their name, email, password etc.Great to see you got it working!
What do you mean by ‘single link’?
That’s strange. The following condition should make sure the redirect occurs only if the user is logged-in and viewing page /me/
if ( is_page( 'me' ) && is_user_logged_in() )Because on my website the usernames are on the root
OK, this should do it:
function my_redirect() { if ( is_page( 'me' ) && is_user_logged_in() ) bp_core_redirect( bp_loggedin_user_domain() ); } add_action( 'template_redirect', 'my_redirect' );Borrowed the
bp_loggedin_user_domain()idea from @shanebp 🙂OK cool
Try this:
function my_redirect() { if ( is_page( 'me' ) && is_user_logged_in() ) { $user = get_userdata( get_current_user_id() ); bp_core_redirect( home_url() . '/members/' . $user->user_login ); } } add_action( 'template_redirect', 'my_redirect' );@chatty24 – I mean, how have you set up
/me/? Is it a page, a post, a member’s username etc?Hi @chatty24
Regarding
/me/, what exactly is that? A page? A post?Hi @lynnham
It’s possible as I’ve done it with audio in the past. The
playevent fires on the<video>element so you could target it like this:$( 'video' ).on( 'play', function( event ) { // Do your stuff here. } );ended,playingandpauseevents are also available if you need to use them.In reply to: BuddyPress Users with Tags as TaxonomyHi @ch1n3s3b0y
Do you mean create a new custom taxonomy called users and then each time a user registers, you want a new term to be created?
If so then check out these resources:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Taxonomies
You’ll need to use
register_taxonomy()to create your new taxonomy (see here)To insert a new term you can use
wp_insert_term()(see here)When you come to write your function, hook it to the
bp_core_signup_useraction.Hi @lustek
Regarding your new question, BuddyPress uses
wp_hash()to hash the user’s ID with the result used as the activation key. So for example:$activation_key = wp_hash( $user_id )
