In reply to: Upgraded to 1.2.4 and now No Blogs Showing!
@r-a-y what file are you referring to with that sql query earlier as at the moment each deactivation reactivation of BP simply wipes the reset fields in that table.
Users seem correct.
tbh I’m not prepared to waste too much time on this as it was only out of curiosity and I hadn’t intended trying to work WP 3.01 and BP 1.2.4 until both were at stable releases
In reply to: Upgraded to 1.2.4 and now No Blogs Showing!@0815
Well I can’t get the one user blog created on my wp 3.0 to show despite adding the rows to the table, the main blog is visible though and is by default the front page. I would bear in mind that to some extent WP.30 + BP 1.2.4 is likely prone to teething issues. Best go back over the posts in this thread and follow the guidance in them again?In reply to: Upgraded to 1.2.4 and now No Blogs Showing!@0815
You have a fresh install? have you created any user blogs before the upgrade to BP1.2.4? In fact was this an upgrade to BP 1.2.4 or simply a first install/activation?
You will only have an issue with this table if you are already running blogs created under WPMU (don’t think the issue arises if adding BP to WP 3.0 with user blogs already created but might be wrong?)
Edit/ oops yes there is an issue wp_user_blogs does not pick up the fact that there are blogs on a WP 3.0 install
@0815 travel junkies instructions earleir in the thread explain how to deal with this issue but if you have very few blogs then simply re-enter the values however you may need to start at id ‘2’ as I believe – but may well be wrong – that blog_id would start at ‘2’ for a new install with ‘1’ being held for upgrades from WPMU
In reply to: Upgraded to 1.2.4 and now No Blogs Showing!Thought I’d test this blog DB issue.
Chose an older test install with BP 1.2 – deactivated ALL plugins, removed all old BP folder and files, brought WPMU up to latest version from 2.9.1. Confirmed WPMU & blogs running correctly
Downloaded BP 2.2.4 Activated (doesn’t activate sitewide?!) enabled default theme but NO other plugins; visit site no blogs!
Check DB and confirm table dropped

Reset table rows as before, nothing still no blogs under BP & and of course no primary blog so can’t get back to dashboard normally

Feels as though 2.2.4 is built for WP 3.0? doesn’t feel backward compatible.
Not sure how this made it through any basic testing really to release candidate.
I would hope this release was retracted very quickly until the issue is resolved before others trot of and god forbid upgrade production sites with large numbers of user blogs and inadequate backups.
In reply to: Issues with adding a new profile field group!Not sure it will be that simple you may have to loop out the whole section in other words replicate the code that the line refers to but changing the id for the newly copied code so you then had all groups being displayed.
To be honest unless there is real compelling reason for a new group of fields I would simply add the new field to the ‘Base’ group. If it’s important for registration I think it’s better added to the base group and set to ‘required’.
In reply to: Issues with adding a new profile field group!Actually I posted this yesterday!
oops my apologies then, misread the timestamp.
The result should be the same from local to production so not sure why not. Have you compared files – look for the line I mentioned.
In reply to: Backup plugin?I think that predominately most will be backing up by performing SQL dumps of the DB. it’s the usual and safest method and simple to do via a tool such as MyPHPAdmin.
I think you’ve said that you have a Plesk control panel available to you? Plesk panels should have access to the DB server via MyPHPAdmin which will allow you to select the appropriate DB and download a full dump of all tables.
The codex.wordpress.org has guides on how to perform SQL backups.
In reply to: Issues with adding a new profile field group!The registration page is set up thusly:
if ( bp_has_profile( 'profile_group_id=1' ):profile_group_id=1 being the primary or base group
In reply to: Issues with adding a new profile field group!Abi bumping after 45 odd minutes is a bit soon really.
With this new group is there only the one single field?
The same thing happens with me and I suspect that when I check I’ll find that the register page is set to only display the ‘base’ group on signup.
I would suggest that this is a ‘good thing’ users tend to get very easily put off by overcomplicated long winded signup procedures; it’s best to try and make signup as simple and as quick as possible and direct users – once joined – to carry on and complete their profile details in full.
In reply to: Problems with activation plugin.You’ve posted a link to the same screenshot twice.
The translated error message is still a puzzling one you are already ‘entered’ on the site ? and to get the same message on two different hosts extremely unlikely are they different server configurations ?
In reply to: Problems with activation plugin.Doesn’t really make sense that you haven’t even got to the activation stage of the plugin yet you say when you try and activate you get the error message, can you translate the error message literally verbatim as “site access” is not a usual error to throw up and when exactly does this occur, you have uploaded the BP folder to the plugins folder? then you are not able to access/loging to the WP backend? but you can if you remove the uploaded BP folder/files? None of this really makes a lot of sense and you best describe all the steps in as much detail as possible.
In reply to: Buddypress.org used as a test site!@DJPaul I guess on perhaps registration and community > Groups page; especially the groups page I suppose, a simple set of guidelines not too dictatorial as to reasons a member might want/ may create a group on this site but that on testbp.org they may experiment if they want to simply get a feel for how BP works. I was slightly surprised that there was no link to the test site from the main page as I had forgotten the link and had to guess a few time at it.
In reply to: Small change to BuddyPress Default 1.2.3 themeYou would need to explain exactly what you tried as it should work, as long as the anchor has a parent named .feed? or was it.rss that is one possible issue and the script element check would need to be smarter or not so rigid.
In reply to: Buddypress.org used as a test site!@DJPaul Yes understood although as I’ve said something that would be better delegated down to the mods; Andy ๐ the three main mods / original mods i.e not group mods ought to be given admin privileges. Besides that though we can at least make an effort to highlight the testbp site and discourage people from using the main site to play around with. No? make sense?

And as r-a-y suggested have you tried disabling all other plugins?
In reply to: SVN Questions ..CLI always better, smarter, faster! or better still drop outdated cludgy SVN and adopt GIT
In reply to: adding widgets to a custom pageIt has been demonstrated on this site the procedure in creating a custom front or home page with widget aware areas if required, a search should have thrown up some posts. Approaches seem correct in essence The WP template page principle holds true for creating a new frontpage and moving posts to another designated page. pages created under the prime blog are automatically added to the main menu tabs unless you instruct otherwise. The method described for creating a bp defined page might be a little unnecessary in this instance?
In the last example I don’t see where you are adding your new areas? won’t you need something similar to this – or a variation thereof:
<?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar')
|| !dynamic_sidebar('showcaseCaption') ) : ?>
In reply to: SVN Questions ..It’s a while sincw I ‘ve used svn but if you are using Tortoise in a graphical? environment do new files or folders not have a overlaid blue- ish question mark on their thumb representaions, If when I was using svn if a added a new file directly then I would have to run ‘Add’ right clicking on a file that was new should give a revised Tortoise menu under TortoiseSVN shorter than normal with fewer options due to this file not being part of the repo, selecting ‘Add’ should open a smaller menu list of file and path and the optionto add this file to repo.
from the inline help:
If you created new files and/or directories during your development process then you need to add them to source control too. Select the file(s) and/or directory and use TortoiseSVN ? Add.
After you added the files/directories to source control the file appears with a added icon overlay which means you first have to commit your working copy to make those files/directories available to other developers. Adding a file/directory does not affect the repository!
Many Adds
You can also use the Add command on already versioned folders. In that case, the add dialog will show you all unversioned files inside that versioned folder. This helps if you have many new files and need to add them all at once.To add files from outside your working copy you can use the drag-and-drop handler:
select the files you want to add
right-drag them to the new location inside the working copy
release the right mouse button
select Context Menu ? SVN Add files to this WC. The files will then be copied to the working copy and added to version control.
You can also add files within a working copy simply by left-dragging and dropping them onto the commit dialog.
If you add a file or folder by mistake, you can undo the addition before you commit using TortoiseSVN ? Undo add….
There are better ways of expressing the sentiments in your last post
read it back to yourself.
BP and WPMU are not apps I would consider running on what I presume is shared hosting, in fact if I had a shared hosting account trotting along nicely and I found out that the host was allowing people to run sites built on BP I would be off like a shot rather than hang around waiting for the inevitable server loads to become intolerable. I agree 64MB is a lot of script memory for php to need but the fact that WP might run in 32MB is neither here nor there BP is a much more intensive app, more than simply a plugin extension or WP. HAving said all that I maintain my own linux VDS for testing various work and sites on and that has the script memory limit set to 32MB and is happily running a full installation of WPMU + BP and a few plugins, it isn’t a active site though and it’s a dedicated server not shared hosting with many accounts consuming resources which I would guess is why you are immediately running into issues.
BP is best run on a dedicated server or virtual dedicated, that sadly is about all that can be said n the matter, perhaps not ideal from your point of view, but why not change to a VDS? they can be found for a good monthly price.
In reply to: How to use BuddyPress in “wordpress.com” blog ?โWhat access if any does wordpress.com give to plugins.โWas a somewhat rhetorical question
In reply to: buddypress.org: Location in the profilesIf you simply want it sitting to the side of the profile field table then one approach that you could take but which requires a little editing of your profile-loop.php file along with functions.php so is best done as child theme files would be this:
Create a function to wrap that google maps api code in and then add that function to:
add_action(‘bp_before_profile_loop_content’, ‘user_profile_locationMap’);
In your profile-loop.php file find the do_action(‘bp_before_profile_loop_content’) around this function wrap a new div with an ID of say ‘profile-content-sidebar’ it’s this new element that you would float to the right.
As – In my case – the ‘Location’ field is a late addition and for most users it will appear on their edit screens but will remain unused I don’t want the new div rendering to the right or otherwise if empty so a conditional is used to test the ‘Location’ field for data.
The new div is wrapped in:
if( bp_get_profile_field_data( ‘field=Location’)):
both for the opening and closing tags this way if ‘Loction’ is empty then the new div will not render and the do_action will be left to render any actions at the top before the profile data table loop as before, with the ‘Location’ field having data then the div is rendered.
Lastly some styles are required to create the desired visual rendering so create a ruleset for the new element #profile-content-sidebar which would contain properties: float:right; and width:250px the div that hold the profile table ( div class=”bp-widget base” ) now needs to be margined away from the right edge you could do this using a sibling selector which would be the preferred approach as you can in a sense make use of CSS ability to implement pseudo conditional selectors e.g:
#profile-content-sidebar + .base {margin-right:260px;}
This is the preferred approach as this ruleset to margin the table elements parent away is only applied if our new div is rendered if not the table will still stretch 100% as before. Of course this approach doesn’t work in certain older generation browsers so it might be best instead to set a new ID on that table parent element to style on but set that ID with the same conditional query used on the new div element earlier.
There is a certain flaw to the checking for the field ‘Location’ while it works it suits a very particular circumstance and if that area to the right was required for other actions then this ‘Location; check might prove a hindered and doubtless there is a better approach to be worked up in the long run.
In reply to: How to use BuddyPress in “wordpress.com” blog ?Clarify that question please. If you want to run Buddypress you’ll need your own server – shared hosting at a pinch – as it’s a little more than a simple plugin nothing else that I’m aware of comes anywhere near the functionality that BP adds. What access if any does wordpress.com give to plugins.
In reply to: BuddyPress activation fails after mistakeFor clarity: The site appears to be running BP? Is the issue resolved?
Are you really saying that you are running WP 3.0 beta and BP beta(bleeding edge) on a production site as that is never really advisable, only stable releases should run on production sites.
In reply to: How to use BuddyPress in “wordpress.com” blog ?You can’t. You will have to run a standalone copy of WP
In reply to: Here come the spammers!!!It’s my belief that the footer link plays a bigger part in the problem than is given credit for
at least it was the last thing I implemented (removing) and appeared to have a significant impact. One thing I think people should stop putting forward is this notion that adding custom fields to sign up makes a difference, it doesn’t! and is obviously and emphatically demonstrated by the fact that spam bot signups manage to fill all fields with garbage including user created ones but as you would expect.
