In reply to: customize the login page
the pages have templates that are called when that page url is accessed those templates are editable, copied over to your theme or child theme, then it’s simply a case of adding the styles you would like. The templates and their location are outlined in those guides, for instance registration lives in /members/
In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable? Not necessarily following this without a test case in front of me but are you able to produce a good use case for this behaviour, would we all ( the BP core app ) benefit from the change and then are you able to edit the core files to achieve it? In which case might be a cause for a patch to core?
In reply to: Groups “readable” access to all usersok good stuff, shame to have to use a plugin to achieve something that used to happen, missed the fact it had changed entirely!
In reply to: Groups “readable” access to all usersSo it looks like the default old behaviour has changed and auto joining no longer functions.
In reply to: Groups “readable” access to all users🙂 again based on your original requirement my response is “but that is what is normal behaviour”
Members can always read and see activity and the act of responding to a group via an update or similar would auto join you to the group.
However just testing quickly on a test trunk install and I wasn’t added as a member to a group that I posted an update on, so not sure if we have a regression in behaviour here, is this what you were finding was the issue? in which case the question needs revising and just possibly reporting as a bug.
In reply to: Groups “readable” access to all usersbut that’s the default behaviour of a normal group!
In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable? You needed to persevere with what you were trying as that’s no more than I was/am doing but it’s not for me 🙂
You lookm like you set the button text then checked if the button id wasn’t ‘is_friend’ then returned the $button.
This works:
function my_add_friend_link_text($button) { if( 'is_friend' == $button['id'] ): $button['link_text'] = 'Unfriend'; return $button; else: return $button; endif; } add_filter('bp_get_add_friend_button', 'my_add_friend_link_text');In reply to: Stop Spam, Allow Members to Flag Spammers, etc.no, think that was a question needing clarification!
In reply to: Explanation for recurring coding pattern in BP corein other words if you are needing to pass the function return through another function like a shortcode or filter the last thing you want is the function trying to echo out the content as it causes problems.
This is a common WP construct that BP follows, it’s useful to remember that nearly always when you see a WP function if you stick _get_ in there somewhere you’ll grab the value.
Again you shouldn’t be using that standalone function, it requires you to pass parameters, and is simply a convenience if you wanted a map on a page.
as i’ve said in the profile field screen you need a different function, it’s explained in the settings page however this was added as a specific requirement and isn’t functioning quite as I wanted but does work.In reply to: Bad Link to Profile EditThis is not an obvious or Glaring error; I can’t reproduce any issue with editing the profile groups, naturally logged in as the member in question or as site admin.
Enabling groups is not a related matter to editing user profile screens.
We can’t get an idea of what may be wrong from your site link as we’re not members so can’t edit profiles, although I note that no profile is shown to logged out users.
I can only suggest testing again on an absolutely pared down install bp-default theme and no plugins running other than BP, and if still not functioning your site install would need examining in detail.
Not sure why you are using the standalone function, but as mentioned in the instructions that function requires parameters to be passed through otherwise the function will simply use a series of default values.
I think you want the approach outlined further down in the settings page for adding a map into the actual profile loop of users account profile screen.
In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable?Ah well my code wasn’t that tested might need to pick up the $args instead, have a look at the core function.
Then you should be able to? You should be able to manage the displays as you wish, it’s trickier on the user actual profile loop as you need to make some manual adjustments, adding a function directly to the template.
In reply to: Activity Stream Questions – adding tags and commentsBP isn’t a forum app, you can’t have non registered users, wouldn’t bother to try hacking it to, however comment posting to blog posts or allowing anonymous topics and replies in bbPress can be allowed.
In reply to: Activity Stream Questions – adding tags and commentsI’m afraid you’re trying to achieve something not possible, WP might allow anonymous posting of comments but BP is a membership system, you must be a member to be able to add items to something like the activity stream (otherwise it simply won’t know who to attribute data to) , and many such functions in BP are based on a logged in requirement.
That sort of reads like a spec sheet.
What have you attempted thus far, too what stage have you got your site to?
Many of those requirements are to a degree configuration pf plugins so shouldn’t present too many difficulties.
A few of those requirements might be a little trickier and require the services of a developer.
In reply to: customize the login page@famous There isn’t really such a thing as the ‘login page’ so you’ll need to explain what page you mean exactly.
If wanting to modify and customize BP then in respect of the BP template files it’s important to understand how theme compatibility works, how the template hierarchy is configured and what paths/folders templates must be placed under.
These two guides will help you understand what can & can’t be done, read those then some aspects will be clearer for you.

https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/theme-development/template-hierarchy/We’ll be able to help more effectively when you have read those.
In reply to: Member can add/mod/del his own post with only 1 catWell it might be by creating a new role that is allowed access to a custom post type, but then assigning that role to the required members might be an issue?
In reply to: customize the login page? where are you creating that page, as written you are describing a WP named ‘page’ template, I think you need to read the provided guides on theme compatibility in the codex. BP pages are virtual i.e created as empty pages, titled as you wish. If you want to modify BP templates then you must follow the structure and paths outlined in the codex guides.
In reply to: Member can add/mod/del his own post with only 1 catNot really a BP issue as more a WP user role one, you might need to use a roles/capability plugin such as Justin Tadlocks ‘Members’
In reply to: “Create a Page” functionality in BuddyPress?Ask him on his site!
Why do so many people want BP to be a farcebook clone 🙁
Yep Paul’s plugin should be the full list, and if you can get his plugin updated or build a plugin that grabs all emails present them for editing and returns them as correct text/html ones you would be everyone’s best friend and a legend 🙂
In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable?Bear in mind with that $button array it’s run through a switch statement to determine which state the button is in ‘is_friend()’ and which args to pass.
In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable?Well there is a filter on the button assembly in that file
return bp_get_button( apply_filters( 'bp_get_add_friend_button', $button ) );
so you could do this:function my_add_friend_link_text($button) { $button['link_text'] = 'new button text'; return $button; } add_filter('bp_get_add_friend_button', 'my_add_friend_link_text');Not necessarily suggesting this as the best approach though.
