In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable?
No don’t change tokens , class & ID’s are best left alone many are there as specific hooks for ajax firing / JS functionality, we went through an exercise of unbinding tokens from markup to allow for more flexibility for devs in re-factoring markup without upsetting functionality but tokens ought to be retained, you can add your own though or add classes to body tag.
In reply to: Buddypress & Arrowchat Notifications – help needed!since i am not a programmer, i don’t know how to implement it and i hope to find anybody here who can help me with that.
To be honest it’s a little outside the scope of this forum which aims to provide help with BP it’s self rather than third party integrations. If you are not a programmer or code savy then you might want to think about hiring a developer for a few hours to implement this for you.
Firstly there are no staff members this is an open source project.
Secondly never ever edit core files unless you are an experienced developer and even then you shouldn’t be needing to ever edit core application files.
If you are trying to attempt something explain the requirements here and people may be able to suggest the correct way you can achieve this.
Now I am missing plugin menu items on users profiles
Explain exactly what page/screen you are referring to here.In reply to: Use a BP legacy template in a child themeThen as I said start by looking at the codex documentation and activity loops to se how to add a custom activity loop with parameters for loggedin user, in fact examine the user account activity loop as that is a personalised view.
In reply to: Is bp-friends-template.php editable?bp-friends-template.php is not an actual template file you don’t override it it’s a core file.
You need to explain what you are trying to do.
In reply to: Use a BP legacy template in a child themeNot really getting what you are trying to do here so try and explain your page path again. I create pages from time to time to act as a sort of hub page for logged in user displaying their data but these need to use loops as explained in the codex and pass ID’s as bp_loggedin_user_id() amongst other things.
As would have reading those guides I mentioned, but assuming you did do that, if not please do try to when you have a moment as the reason we write those guides are to attempt to provide answers to these sorts of questions, and help people understand the options they have in dealing with custom themes. 🙂
In reply to: Group page is blank – no “Add New” buttonactivate a theme known to work with BP e.g twentytwelve, does issue clear up? This sounds like a custom theme issue I’m afraid.
In reply to: 1.8.1 not working in chromeThen there’s something very wrong but I’m afraid it isn’t a BP issue, and not one I’ve ever run across.
In reply to: 1.8.1 not working in chromeWell you are best placed to investigate, trouble shoot, not us so going back to link probably pointless, although on quick inspection you haven’t got any head tags!!
You should have also tested things by activating a theme such as twentytwelve, known to work ok with BP to see if that resolves issue, have you tried that?
In reply to: New Group Management “built in”it works fine, you save/update just as though you were saving a post. on refresh it shows the member added and navigating to frontend shows user added to group.
Please do ensure you are testing in a clean environment though.
In reply to: [Resolved] Disabling @mentionsIt does work! I’ve just tested it for you and run from functions.php.
In reply to: New Group Management “built in”1.8 and I can’t add users from the admin panel
Can’t add where, please be specific.
If as before you’re talking about adding members to groups from the dashboard, I can without any problem.
Have you checked the Codex Documentation ? I suggest you read the guides on theme templates as these will help your understanding and allow you to ask more detailed questions that we can help with.
I created the the buddypress-pages on full width and also changed the template-page in WordPress, but Buddypress is still using the standard-template. Someone knows the Problem?
I assume you mean the pages created in the setup routine for BP such as ‘activity’, ‘members’ etc these are placeholders only you can not do anything in them except set the page title.
‘<i>changed the template-page in WordPress</i>’
You need to be clearer on what you mean here!‘<i>standard template</i>’
Again not sure to what you are referring here, BP in theme compatibility mode uses page.php, unless you provide other named templates but this is all explained in the template compatibility themeing guides written for users to help them out with just this sort of issue. As for the loader gif it’s impossible to say, you haven’t told us the theme in use, linked to the site, or shown any code to work from thus it’s a complete guess as to what may be happening.
As always if there are issues first test is activate known good theme such as twentytwelve and see if things work in that theme then you know it’s a theme issue.
In reply to: Always use full size AvatarPlease do not advise the editing of core files this is poor practise and never recommended.
You describe the default args there, the correct means of changing those is when using bp_core_fetch_avatar() to pass it an array of values.
In templates adjust the various avatar calls using similar principle
In reply to: Dashes in usernamesYep this is an issue we’re aware of I did a little work on username reg process in core but this aspect is tricky and needed to be re-visited separately:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4939In reply to: Page Title all say ‘Archive’So that tells you it’s a theme issue I’m afraid, you’ll need to contact the authors, sounds like they are not doing something correctly with the wp_title() function, BP as can be seen is applying title strings correctly.
In reply to: Page Title all say ‘Archive’change to bp-default theme or twentytwelve and report if the issue still exists
In reply to: notifications do not appear in the side barcheck the core theme files sidebar.php the message function should be hardcoded there, is for me and is running and I test on trunk.
In reply to: notifications do not appear in the side barWith Theme Compatibility BP doesn’t have control over sidebars, bp-default theme used to hardcode messages to it’s sidebar. This is an issue discussed on a ticket, the interim solution was to feed site messages into the WP footer, and add default styling to position them over the site towards top of the page.
The solution is a widget, which is simple enough, I ran one up, but harder for users is knowing how to disable the existing feed into the wp_footer
In reply to: Buddypress locking a member out of his own groupNo you don’t cache DB stuff you do cache static objects, caching dynamic data will cause issues and BP draws heavily on DB tables.
tbh caching plugins with WP seem to be more hassle than they are worth, cause of loads of issues. Always considered caching a server aspect really and/or offloading static stuff to CDN.
‘register_theme_packages’ is probably the approach, but has to be looked into as will need some work doing to it, probably filters for bp_get_theme_package_id() and a lot of testing before it’s a viable there’s a fair bit of hardcoding going on that needs to be filterable?. Had a brief chat with Boone about this as need to prepare a overview best practise guide to all approaches one can take with custom themes/sites.
For the moment I think one re-declares the class even if that might feel wrong – it works!
In reply to: BuddyPress and Child InstallationHave you had a look through the codex? There are guides to working with child themes and theme compatibility. If they don’t help post back to thread.
In reply to: Unable to disable buddypress, help please…@andresdez before doing anything else, including activating or re-activating BP, could you switch to the twentytwelve theme then attempt to activate BP and tell us what happens.
Why are you ‘bumping’ ? it’s been 5 months since the last post, would you like to briefly respond to that last one rather than simply ‘bump’!
