In reply to: Says ‘sign up complete’ but users can’t register
And have you tried just registering with WP, BP deactivated? You must establish WP install works before ever activating something like BP, This sounds like your server not sending emails.
In reply to: Translation problemForum, bbPress? Is this site running BuddyPress?
bbPress translation issues will be better asked on their forum support as bbPress is a standalone plugin.
In reply to: Logo doubling when resizing and using with iphoneYou have added a new image as a background one, but without any ‘repeat’ value thus it’s defaulting to ‘repeat’ you need to specify no-repeat, from where you set that background. The header expands in height as the elements in it are squeezed in narrow widths and show the repeated background that has been hidden.
In reply to: Logo doubling when resizing and using with iphoneYou can after leaving a suitable period ~24 hours, what shouldn’t be possible though is to sticky the thread, unsticking this mysteriously stickied thread.
In reply to: Add users profile to favorite‘favourits’ is really for bits of content, you might be better off with the Follow plugin, that would allow you to ‘Follow’ members as opposed to the friendship function which requires two way acceptance, in this way you essentially have a list of people that you have tagged, or listed as wanting to keep in a list.
In reply to: Non Register members must only access frontpageIs this a question or a statement ๐
Try a search in the forum for old topics based around keyword searches such as ‘privacy’ ‘walled garden’ there are a lot of posts and solutions on this subject.
In reply to: Buddypress registrationAs said all too often never ever edit any files in core!
There is a template hierarchy that allows for overloading of files to a child theme for safely editing. You need to check through the Codex Documentation please, read up on the process of creating child themes, on the theme compatibility layer and it’s templates and how to modify.
You don’t explain what process you are following in terms of themes, activated the older bp-default theme in appearance > themes, or activated another theme, as you say those edits didn’t take affect it suggests that in fact bp-default theme is not in use and that actually you are running under theme compatibility in which case using a different set of template files, but reading those guides in the codex will give you a better understanding of how BP deals with templates.
As for changing labels ther is also a language file guide explaining how to edit the language files to produce a new version with the labels you require.
In reply to: Registration and Activation pages missingYes it is what you’re meant to do, from what you describe you do not have these pages, so create new ones, blank just a title as you wish it then go back to the BP settings and select that page.
In reply to: Install Walkthrough 1.8Why what is not going right?
The install is dead simple you are taken through the install screens one by one.You must actually tell us what isn’t seemingly working.
In reply to: Register page not working URGENT help neededIf you lurk first and read as many threads as possible and also the sticky how to get help post then likely you would have seen us state this over and over again, changing a theme is one of the first things to try along with disabling any plugins that might be an issue. ๐
In reply to: Server Requirements (SW & HW)doubt very much you will have 10,000 concurrent connections, it’s a huge amount and would require knowing how to fine tune idle servers maxservers, maxrequests per server etc.
If you really are expecting anything like that number you would be better off hiring a server engineer to scope out a server build and then spend a little time fine tuning it, as you are moving into very pro territory.
HD/storage is not an issue unless your users are uploading millions of files, but then you probably want to be using some form of cloud storage such as S2 buckets.
Memory likewise not really an issue in this respect although I would want a healthy 4GB with at least CPU 2 cores pref few more.
Real issue would more likely be Bandwidth you’ll need a lot or at least a big wide super interstate highway rather than data transfer otherwise things will slow to a crawl.
Server type is generally a given it’s Linux using Apache or Nginx, which most VPS boxes will have in way of rhel/centos or other distro.
Caching of any static files would be a must and need to be carefully managed checking all file headers and other approaches to server caching and compresion.
Other than that this question starts to veer off outside the scope of this forum really and is better asked of a dedicated forum for server issues.
Closing thread.
@whitewolf1988 Please avoid name calling, even in jest. People have the right to monetize their work if they so wish, it’s a common plugin model to have free version and premium, why do think people should work for no return?
In reply to: Can’t change overall font in rtl default theme@cupid4 The ‘developers’ didn’t move anything , a good understanding of the changes in V 1.7 helps and the codex has some pages on theme compatibility changes. the bp-default theme still exists and in the same folder in the core files, a new folder was added for template files which serve the theme compatibility layer /bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/ these files are not the same as the older bp-default ones as they are template parts rather than full templates with header and footer calls.
Copying bp-default to your theme and re-naming doesn’t sound at all correct, this would not work! Your theme either activates the older bp-default theme in /appearance/themes in dashboard or it’s a child of bp-default and possibly then overloads files by copying e.g /members/index.php to your theme root else you activate any other theme and simply allow BP to run with it’s theme compatibility layer in that situation you can adjust templates by copying templates from /bp-templates/legacy/buddypress/ to /buddypress/ in your theme root, just don’t mix templates.
In reply to: How to override core template function@megainfo Actually you’re quite correct… well almost, there are filters and they were committed but think the commit was rolled back as I found a few issues and the updates didn’t make it into 1.8.1 but check your trunk files you’ll see them there.
@skeary Apologies I was ahead of myself there, next release will contain them; for the moment follow Aces advice or megainfos new function to replace.
In reply to: How to override core template functionIt and the others now have filters so you can filter in to the function bp-groups-template.php approx line: 2496.
Out of interest what did you want to change about the form?
Please don’t advise people not to upgrade, this is bad advise, BP releases often have bug fixes and security updates people should endeavour to keep on the most current release. BP releases are tested as extensively as possible and not released until stable under most conditions. Quite what has happened with your install is hard to quantify without examining things in detail.
One thing that I would advice is not jumping from 1.6 to 1.8 missing out 1.7 due to the changes in 1.7, whether that was the issue in your case is unknown though. What BP can’t do however is patch an issue until it can be replicated and proven as a bug, but if more occurrences like this are reported then it may be looked at in more depth.
In reply to: Members directory for hidden groupsBut this loop displays all members of the entire network, right?
Did you read the page?
In reply to: User Language ExtensionThat section – as noted on the page (‘legacy’ ) – is really a historical list from a time when plugins tagged BP would have a group generated here, it’s retained but not used any longer.
In reply to: Members directory for hidden groupsCheck the codex docs for guides, this one is probably what you need to be working with, same loop as in groups/single/members.php:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/developer-docs/loops-reference/the-group-members-loop-bp_group_has_members/In reply to: Registrations don’t workit doesnโt bring you to the activate page,
And default behaviour isn’t to, the page refreshes and you should see a message saying reg successful please check email for activation key.
Not sending an email is not generally a BP issue but a server one.
Having said all that do as mercime suggests checking in another theme known as compatible.
I’ve tested 3.6, 1.8.1, bp-default theme and registration works as expected, so I’m guessing your slightly confused as to the default sign up process and that your server isn’t sending mail correctly or it’s being dropped into users spam folders.
In reply to: BP Groups and ForumsThis issue is resolved in this ticket on BP’s trac and will be included in the 1.8.1 point release.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/7332/In reply to: Do you want full bootstrap buddypress theme?think you covered that in your other thread!
In reply to: Group Forum uses plugins.php instead of forum.phpbbPress handles all forum requirements for BP as of 1.7, BP no longer bundles a version of bbPress, the templates in bp-default are more for backwards compatibility, running in theme compatibility mode bbPress will feed it’s content through plugins.php for group forums.
In reply to: BP Groups and Forums@faramarz thanks for posting the error, see https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/fatal-error-unable-to-create-forum-from-buddypress-group/#post-135487
EDIT โ Trac Ticket at https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2374
However as this post suggests and others this issue is perhaps not bbPress specific but BP and needs a trac entry on bp rather than bbPress.
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/error-when-using-it-for-groups/
In reply to: New great plugin, buddypress-wall by @megainfo@megainfo Those are historical groups before the changeover to bbPress, then groups were automagically created from WP repo submissions as long as something or other was in the plugin header, but since that change those groups no longer function as support avenues.
