    @megainfo do correct me if I’m wrong but is this not another re-hash of an older plugin?

    You have this line in the readme.txt https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-wall/forum/
    Why it points nowhere, why are you saying the WP support forum for plugin is really checked and to post here with support issues? BP support does not offer support for third party plugins the correct place to offer/deal with support is on the provided WP plugin support.

    All we can advise is to change to twentytwelve theme if issue corrects itself as it will then it’s a theme issue and it will be down to the author to provide some solution really. BP theme compatibility is a simple process requiring just that a regular WP conforming page.php exists.

    that’s pretty much the extent of my plugins

    Disable them all, all except crucial i.e BP, checking the page validation shows a un-recoverable markup error that looks to be the fault of something facebook related (doesn’t surprise me!)

    Not really, as I stated earlier in thread I have no issues. Ensure you have no plugins activate that may affect this aspect.

    @funmi-omoba why post this here if you don’t link to the plugin? Seems a little pointless just bigging someone up in this fashion.

    Buddypress 1.7 introduced Theme Compatibility, this process allows BP to seamlessly work with the vast majority of themes simply by activating BP. When it doesn’t work is due to the theme not following the standard WP process for looping content in page.php, however this is in the hands of the theme author , BP can have a custom top level template used in place of page.php and that can be modified to work with BP and the theme but the theme author would need to help you with that.

    This is a problem with your theme not BuddyPress I’m afraid. Your theme is choosing to load it’s own copy of jQuery for whatever reason instead of using the version bundled with WP, your theme is using 1.6 which is a little outdated now , WP is currently using 1.8; the ‘on’ method requires 1.7 iirc.

    Most likely a PHP settings issue, you’ll need to contact your hosts, and see what they say initially.

    I would try the woothemes community support, it’s a premium theme so they ought to be able to help.

    No copying page.php to a new file named buddypress.php is only when you need to change how bp call say sidebars or if the original file is not suitable for displaying BP content. Normally you should have to do nothing BP simply injects it’s screens/content into the area where page.php would render page content and by the look of that page.php file the right structure is present for BP to be able to work.

    You have some other problem going on but screen shots aren’t going to help diagnose what that is, looks as though you aren’t picking up BP basic styles though and also possibly some mal-formed markup causing layout to break.

    Have you asked about this with the theme authors?

    You’ll need to explain just what you mean by we purchased the Buddypress Theme BuddyPress is an open source project it is free to download, use and modify, there is no ‘the buddypress theme’ there is a bundled bp-default theme that is packaged in with the main files and free.

    As far as I’m aware BP does not make use of the jQuery accordion library for anything, also BuddyPress has no ‘custom.js’ file.

    You appear to be referring to some custom third party theme here and you need to take these issues to that themes authors for help & support.

    So that’s three means to approaching the task :), as admin you get three options backend, wp adminbar, on actual user account object nav links ‘settings’. As the actual user you may delete your own acount as long as the BP settings in backend allow for user deletions.

    @hnla

    However I do always forget to mention that BP does provide a delete link in the WP adminbar for admins to manage a user from their account.

    @hnla

    Users belong to WP, try going to user list in backend and deleting from there.

    It will be something like:
    $ chown domainuser:domainuser /whateverfolder/

    but you need root access via shell , be in the directory above one needing changing or specify full path /var/home/… and possible a switch to specify to do change recursively on sub-directories, so don’t try the above without checking a tutorial first.

    Do some googling on linux chown command.

    I was under the impression the theme would be open source and as a result I would make a derivative work and provide credit where due – of course I will investigate this fully. Although it appears to be a direct derivative of the BP theme itself.

    Not sure what theme you are referring to but not getting into debate over GPL while essentially it preserves the right to copy and forces derivative works to carry the same licence on those parts that are derivatives, nothing is ever that clear cut. Personally I am in two minds over the veracity of the GPL

    No don’t mix files/templates from bp-default into your child /buddypress/, theme conpat templates and older bp-default templates have different structures. The point about theme compatibility is that the templates are template parts not full templates in their own right and inject their content into the WP function the_content() if you examine one you will note it has no header or footer calls.

    Not sure what your asking re that theme but it’s suggestive of copying work?? and as such I’ll make no comment, however why not simply use that theme as it’s already built on boostrap and create a child theme as you need.

    and how do you know or identify who the selected member is?

    To do this you would need some means of testing a member for a condition and then based on that condition ‘true’ adding a class token to their listing or ‘a’ tag then you can use a ruleset to add a background image to the anchor or whatever element preferred.

    If your not comfortable with PHP, HTML, CSS this is not a easy as it may sound.

    @hnla

    @jtm21
    Yes essentially that would be fine, bearing in mind you might lose or have to account for any styles that were in place to deal with js frills.

    Generally now you can or should be using BP in theme compat mode as it offers more options now as well as ability to keep templates and assets neatly under /buddypress/ or /community/ adding directories directly to you theme root will invoke the older approach, and although still valid, less of a attraction now the theme compat templates can be customized for components, actions, user_ids etc.

    Check the functions.php in the bp-legacy template folders as that will show you the class used for setting up a theme and it’s assets.

    We ran through an exercise in unbinding many of the jQuery selectors from elements so that scripting was tied to classes rather than specific markup structure to allow for re-factoring of markup, so you ought to be able to structure markup as you wish but just pay close attention to IDs & Classes which must be preserved.

    Please contact your host this is a server issue not BP one, also check the WP codex for guides on correct file perms & ownership (correct user/group perms are the issue here)

    And do not change any file to 777 ‘world writeable’ it’s extremely unsafe and unnecessary.

    It’s important to understand that this is a theme issue, not BP’s issue, as of 1.7 BP re-factored how it worked to a huge degree and added theme compatibility, designed to allow BP content to work seamlessly in any WP theme providing the theme followed basic WP template practises -it’s a real shame so many don’t!

    They replied and said the buddypress pages should be using the buddypress page templates and asked if I have installed the buddypress page templates correctly.

    This is somewhat outdated advice and sounds as though they are suggesting the old template pack process or copying over bp-default theme templates, neither of these are what you need to be doing and require a little knowledge to achieve.

    As said earlier all you need is a correctly functioning page.php, clearly this theme prevents page.php working as is normally expected so the answer is copy page.php & rename it buddypress.php in order that you may make custom mods in that file without page.php and your themes templating breaking. Now in buddypress.php you need to have a working and ‘Normal’ WP loop plus any other html markup structure your theme uses, however this is the sort of thing the theme author can best handle or at least they will understand what needs doing.

    Again earlier I pointed out where you can find an example loop in the WP default theme twentytwelve but you need something like this in your content area of your custom buddypress.php file:

    <div id=”content” role=”main”>

    <?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); ?>

    <h1 class=”entry-title”><?php the_title(); ?></h1>
    <?php the_content(); ?>

    <?php endwhile; // end of the loop. ?>

    </div><!– #content –>

    However whereas this may kick the custom template into life it doesn’t account for the theme markup structure so likely would look broken, but we have no understanding of what this theme does with it’s templates so can’t really advice – again the theme author could and needs to understand how BP now works as a simple one file include with their theme could allow them to state their theme is BP compatible.

    Lastly and for anyone else reading the thread understand that the best place to source themes which are BP compatible is the official WP theme repo as the theme checks run on submitted themes will ensure standard WP practises are adhered to, buy premium themes and you take your chances, unless they are from a well known source and /or clearly state BP compatible or if not that they DO follow the WP templating API not invent their own I would avoid also I would avoid unless there was a strong support area for the theme.

    Yes old. There are codex docs that do guide on using bbPress with BP or migrating older bp group forums to bbPress standalone plugin, jut have another hunt through them.
