    Skollie-

I just looked into this and found that Mike’s widget is using a deprecated function call

    bp_group_permalink

This changed somewhere down the road to BP v1.0. So, if you are comfortable with opening up a PHP file and making two easy changes, you can search for that function in his widget and replace the above call with

    bp_get_group_permalink

If you are not comfortable with doing this, then message Mike and give him the url for this forum thread, kindly begging him to fix his widget as quickly as possible or the world will end.

Actually, if you make the changes to the code yourself, it would also be nice of you to let Mike know that his widget needs a little TLC.

Is this problem solved? If so, please set the light to green (resolved) above.

    Okay, a couple of thoughts:

    1. Off the top of my head I’d say the quickest way to offer some solution is by creating a new extended field and letting your members paste their blog URLs in that field. Call the field My Other Blogs.

This would not bring in any of your members’ blog posts though. It would simply provide a standard place to put an external link to their blog(s). You could tell them how to make the urls look a little prettier by using an href tag.

    <a href="http://myotherblogurl/">Hey, look at my cool blog!</a>

    2. You could use the FeedwordPress plugin to allow your members a way to aggregate their external blog posts. I’ve never used this and I have no idea how it will play with BuddyPress.

    3. You could suggest, possibly offering as a premium service, that they move their other WordPress-based blogs to your site. You would then use Donncha’s Domain Mapping Plugin to faciliate that move while allowing your members to keep their original domains. I’ve never done this, so there may be a lot more to it than meets the eye.

In essence, you would have your existing internal Mu blogs co-existing with all the newly imported and mapped blogs. I’m not sure what conflicts this could cause with WPMU or BuddyPress.

Which version of BuddyPress are you running? Whereas I do see the potential error you’re referring to in the two testbp.org links above, when I went to my test install, I could not replicate this behavior.

At first the “uncategorized” category appeared in the member theme when navigating to “Blogs > Recent Posts”. But when I went into the blog’s dashboard and edited the post by reselecting a new category, making sure that “uncategorized” was deselected, and then hitting the “Update Post” button, the problem disappeared upon refreshing the member theme page in my browser.

Perhaps this has something to do with cached data in testbp.org. So, I would not submit a new ticket in trac.

Yes, I know that. I thought, though, that you would like a nice bug!

The link you provided does not load properly. Instead, it keeps triggering a reload of the page. I’m trying on Safari 3.2.5.

But, I think I know what you are saying. This is primarily a CSS issue. If you are not doing so already, you should be using Firefox with the Firebug Add-on. This combination will allow you to analyze other sites, see how they use CSS, make changes to the CSS to see how that affects the design and layout. This way, you can then learn what you need to do to apply the same or similar CSS selectors to your design.

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. You’ve mentioned that you set the permissions on blogs.dir to 777. Check to make sure that the user & the group for that directory is not root:root
    2. Try disabling the Welcome Package plugin, although this should not be related to your issue in any way. Also, contact DJPaul and let him know about this error.

    Interesting!

Please submit a new bug ticket in trac.

Go into WPMU’s backend and make sure that you have deselected the “uncategorized” category for each of your blog posts. I believe it stays selected even when you choose another category.

    Same problem here wp-themes/bpmember

If that is the case, then you have an incorrect directory name. The bpmember theme should be in /wp-contents/bp-themes/, not /wp-themes/.

Also, make sure that you do not have any old BuddyPress themes or old BP theme directories in /wp-content/.

    A few questions:

    1. Do you have any non-BuddyPress plugins installed?
    2. Do you have ANY errors in your server’s log files?
    3. Which version of the GD library are you using?
    4. Which version of PHP?

The avatar for mine it stays the same avatar no matter what I upload. It comes from Gravatar.

What do you have set in WPMU’s backend under “Settings > Discussion > Avatars >Default Avatar”?

Since you are using Gravatars, the avatar should change when you upload an new image to your gravatar.com account.

when I change the theme to the church theme that I am using on wpmu it does not work!

BuddyPress themes are special cases of WordPress themes. They have additional functions and some unique code that make them work in BP. So, you cannot take any WP theme and substitute it for a BuddyPress theme.

If you wish to use something other than one of the Standard BP themes, then you need to pick an already available custom BP theme, customize a WP theme to make it work in BP, or design your own BP custom theme from scratch. You can search the BP forums for advice on customizing themes to work in BP.

    Michael-

The problem is, that it is a WPMU-Message

Why do you say it is a WPMU error message? Have you tried the process in different browsers and received the same message? Or, do you just see this message in Internet Explorer?

If it occurs in other browsers, then it could be an issue with a nonce field.

Sgrunt indicated that this message only occurred in IE. If your issue is not the same as Sgrunt’s, you should start a new thread.

Since I had only one radio button field, which was located in my first field group, I did the following:

    • I added a new radio button field to my second field group and tested. No issue.
    • Then, thinking it could be an issue if two or more radio button field sets were in the same field group, I added a second radio button field set to the same group. No issue between all three radio button field sets.
    • Then I created a new field group and added a fourth radio button field set. No issue. Each change I made showed up and remained properly set, whether just changing a single radio button field, or changing all four radio button fields.
    • Finally, thinking maybe this could be an issue only within the first field group, I added a second radio button field to the first field group. I now had 5 radio button field sets. No issue. All five worked as expected. No issues within filed groups or between field groups.
    • Since the first radio button field set in the first field group was set to “Required”, I reset it to “Not Required” to see if that would make a difference. No issue.
    • I then set both radio button field sets in the first field group to “Required”. No issue.

So, I have tried numerous combinations and cannot recreate your problem.

    A few questions:

    1. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, try disabling .
    2. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? If customized themes, try switching to the default BP themes.
    3. Are there any errors in your server’s log files?

First, you should not edit the core files–this includes the widget files. Instead, make copies of the widget files that you want to modify, give them a unique name, and then work on those copies. You can then install and activate your new widget in WPMU’s backend like any other widget.

Second, before modifying any widget, you should remove it from any BuddyPress theme column in which it is installed. This is just a wise precaution.

Third, I’d suggest copying back to their original locations, unaltered versions of the widget files that you modified.

Making a backup copy of your DB is always a good idea before any modification that can impact the data. But, as far as what you’ve done with your actual data in you DB, I cannot advise.

    @jeffsayre

This is not an issue in my BP 1.0 setup.

Are you sure that you hit the “Save changes” button to write the changes to the database? When editing a profile field, a user must save their changes. If they do not, then whatever value was recently stored in the DB is displayed–in this case the default radio button selection.

These two error messages indicate that you do not have a a complete install of the standard member theme.

You state that you are using the standard BuddyPress themes and it seems like you are able to access the member theme to get to the links to change the avatars, but the files to alow you to do so are missing.

For the change-avatar.php file, look in /wp-contents/bp-themes/bpmember/profile.

For the group-avatar.php file, look in /wp-contents/bp-themes/bpmember/groups/admin.

If you do not see either of the files in those locations, then your installation is flawed. Reinstall the member theme, reselect it in WPMU admin, and try again.

As jjj explains in that thread, you need to customize your homepage. You will not get the default homepage to work as is with your current set up. You can either have a static page and the members theme, or a the default home theme with a members theme. But you will not be able to have this sequence:

Your own static front page > Default BuddyPress Home theme > BuddyPress member theme

You need to follow jjj’s advice.

I comment the lines in the .htacces out and hacked the bp-core-avatar.php as mentioned.

I would restore these files back to their original coding before you continue looking into the cause of this particular issue. The advice from that particular member was from 5 months ago. Since then, many bug fixes and improvements have been made in BP.

When it comes to the BuddyPress core files, it is never a good idea to hack them. Do not touch to core files. We will not be able to help you if you are not using the same core files everyone else is using.

Once you have done that, answer these questions:

    1. You’re positive that the permissions on blogs.dir and the existing subfolders are set to 777?
    2. Are you uploading a gif or png image?
    3. Are there ANY errors in your log file? If so, what are they?
    4. You mentioned that this issue occurs no matter what browser you try. Which versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer are you using?

    Server not record logs files…

This is hard to believe. Ask your ISP to provide access to the log files for your account. If they cannot, or will not, give you access, you should consider switching to a different ISP.

Access to log files can be very crucial to figuring out issues.

I’m not seeing a problem. I assume what you are referring to is your “Anime Espada” logo. It is linked to your homepage theme. So, if a user is anywhere in your site except the homepage, they can click on your logo and be brought back to your homepage.

This is normal behavior for the vast majority of websites. When a user clicks on the site’s logo, it takes them back to the homepage.
