Based on your second post, I assume that this issue has been resolved. I’m setting this thread to indicate as much. If that is not the case, you can reset the status and ask for additional help.
In reply to: bbpress integrationHere are a couple of threads that might help:
In reply to: Recent Blog Posts/Recent Posts widgets running amok!Did you recently install and activate any new plugins?
Have you changed any settings for your main blog in WPMU admin?
Are there any errors in your log files?

Okay, a couple of additional questions:
You state that permissions for blog.dir is set to 777 and it is owned by your FTP account. Is the owner of your FTP account the same as the owner of your html folder? If not, that may be your problem.
The error message you listed, “Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /var/www/html/”, can indicate several things including an improper virtual host set up. Are you on a dedicated server or a shared hosting account? I would contact your ISP and ask for assistance with this particular error.
Also, with regards to that error, if you’ve customized your .htaccess file, you might have inadvertently made some changes that could cause this issue. You can always try adding:
Options +Indexesto your .htaccess file, but that would not really help to determine why this error is being thrown in the first place. I would prefer that you get WPMU + BuddyPress functioning with the default .htaccess file.
Was WordPress Mu working without issue before installing BuddyPress?
In reply to: Using widgets in custum themes [HOW-TO] ?So i need to do away with the 3 column layout…Can someone give an small example of how to use widgets like online members, wire etc explicitly without using it as widgets
You are really asking for specific help on creating a custom, 2-column home theme that is hardcoded for outputting specific data without using widgets.
If you do not have previous theming experience, this is not something that can be shown to you with a “small example” or in a simple way.
You need to learn about WordPress theming. BuddyPress themes, after all, are just another type of WordPress theme. Here are some links to help you get started:
- Designing and Laying Out Your Theme
- Instead of hardcoding the output, you may want to design your theme to use the exisiting widgets. You can control some of the widget output with your own custom CSS. Widgetizing Themes
- Finally, to help you with CSS styling your custom theme, you should be using FireFox with the Firebug Add-on.
In reply to: Re-submit friend requestMike-
You pose a good question. It would be useful to have the ability to re-request friendship, or at least nudge a given person to reconsider.
Of course, as you suggest, there may be other issues like the original email was overlooked or filtered out as spam and never seen. In this case, there’s not much that can been done, especially if a member does not check their profile on a regular basis.
But having a feature to re-request action or an admin-configurable setting that will auto-remind members every week or month to visit their profile would be a nice addition to the platform.
I suggest creating a new enhancement ticket in trac.

just wondering: is it possible to show only groups at the “home”-page ?
Yes. You can add or remove whatever widgets you want to the bphome theme page.
Log into WPMU and go to “Appearance > Widgets”. On the right side of the screen, select which theme column you want to place a given widget, then click the “Add” button for that widget. Click on “Edit” for each widget to set certain parameters.
You can also remove any widget from any column by clicking a given widget’s “Edit” button and then clicking the “Remove” button. Just make sure to click the “Save Changes” button whenever making widget changes.
is it possible having “group-wide-activity” showing for each group also at the start-page ?
As far as I know, there currently is not a group-wide-activity widget. You can either make your own, or if you do not have coding experience, create a new thread in the “Requests & Feedback” forum asking for such a widget. Perhaps someone will make one!

Great! I’m glad you’re back in business.
As you’ve discovered, one of the first places to look when having BuddyPress issues is possible plugin conflicts.
In reply to: Avatar upload failedPhilpeter-
This clearly looks like a permissions-based issue. A couple of questions:
- What are the permissions for blog.dir?
- What, if any, errors are showing up in your log files?
- Have you tried disabling all plugins except BuddyPress and switching to the default themes?
In reply to: Error 404 When Clicking On Members, Profile etc.@Fi3ryfalc0nz-
Do you have any member themes installed? At a minimum you should have the bpmember theme installed in /wp-content/bp-themes/.
In reply to: buddypress upload avatars 404Read the links in this thread and see if that solves your problem. Let us know either way.
BuddyPress Support Plugin 1.0-RC1
If you are truly using BuddyPress 1.0-RC1, then that is your issue. There have been many bugs fixes and improvements since RC1. It’s time to upgrade to the 1.0 public release and try the process again.
Since RC2, BuddyPress is a single plugin that resides in /wp-content/plugins/. Make sure you follow these revised Installation procedures very carefully.
In reply to: how to change Register for an Account logosHere are some suggestions: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2746
Tutsie,
Please provide your site’s URL so that we can look at your source.
In reply to: Buddypress.org profile layout theme, I want it!I don’t understand why they didn’t just model it from their own awesome member theme. Even the skeleton member theme is more or less the same as the default.
It’s because the awesome member theme was a customization of the default theme. The default themes have been around since BuddyPress was first made available as a release candidate.
So, as Nicola and DJPaul suggest, if you want to create your own custom themes, by using either the skeleton theme or the default themes you have a solid foundation from which to work!

In reply to: Spotting unanswered posts in forums… an option to view Unanswered posts…Will BP kindly think about a similar provision, please?
Why? It took me only two days to find this.

Seriously, though, this feature request is bbPress related. I think it is a great idea! Perhaps you could post this idea on the bbPress forums.

If I understand your question correctly, they are hardcoded. Look in the index.php files in each of the subfolders in /wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/directories/
In reply to: Internet Explorer troubleCce-
Several of initial questions:
1. Have you tried switching back to the standard BuddyPress home theme? If not, do so and see if the problem still exists.
2. Have you tried deactivating all 3rd-party plugins to see what happens? If the problem goes away, you should then reactivate the 3rd-party plugins one at a time, testing after each reactivation to see if the problem has returned.
2. Are there any errors in your log files? If so, what are they?
