So the standard, default bpmember theme works fine. So, you are only having this issue when using a custom theme, correct?
By custom, I mean any theme that is not the standard BP themes. This means that if you took one of the standard BP themes (home, member) and made any changes to it, it would be a custom theme.
Too slow Camopants!

That’s Nanopants, not Camopants.
Inside joke. Nothing to see here people. Move along.
In reply to: register.php not working (but wp-signup.php does)P.S. I did check the error log for the past couple of days for any reference to this error and didnt see anything. Infact, there don’t seem to be any errors with relation to the domain I am hosting BP on at all.

I realize that it may seem like none of the errors in the log file apply to your situation, but you need to let us make that decision. Please share with us all the errors in the log file.
But, before you paste several weeks or months of log file errors, please do this:
– make a backup copy of your log file just in case your hosting provider needs it to help you with an unrelated problem down the road
– then, clear out the log file so that it is empty
– then try recreating your problem
– reopen the log file. If there are ANY errors, share those with us

Remember, BuddyPress is just a WPMU plugin. Granted, a big, fancy, and powerful WPMU plugin!
The best practice is to contact each plugin developer and ask if there are any issues using their plugin with BuddyPress. Also, if their plugin has not yet been updated to work with WPMU 2.7.1, then you will want to request that it be updated as soon as possible. Using plugins that are not yet supported on, or will not be updated to, the current version of WPMU is not advisable.

Adding to what jjj and TheEasyButton are saying, if you are still having issues then it is important to start from scratch. You must get WPMU functioning properly before installing BuddyPress. Then make sure BuddyPress is functioning properly before installing and integrating bbPress.
From what you are saying, it is not clear if you are upgrading WPMU from 2.6 or 2.7? Did you already have a working copy of WPMU installed? If so, what version?
If you are upgrading from 2.7 to 2.7.1 following these upgrading instructions, then make sure you finish the upgrading process by logging into WPMU’s backend as site admin and going to “Site Admin -> Upgrade”. Also, make sure you use the wp-config-sample.php file that comes with WPMU 2.7.1 and modify that version as needed. Do not use an older version of the wp-config.php file.
If you do not have an active site with real members and you are only in testing mode, then you can safely delete everything and perform a clean install. This means that you do not have any data in the MySQL DB that is worth saving.
If that is the case, save to a separate file any custom themes you may have created or installed. Also, save any 3rd-party plugins you may have installed for WPMU. Then, start from scratch. Delete everything including your MySQL DB. Once you have reinstalled WPMU succesfully, you can copy back your custom themes and 3rd-party plugins into their proper locations.
Finally, if you are still using BP RC2, it is time to switch to BuddyPress 1.0, the public release version of BP.
As the first step in helping you solve this issue, please go back and read the section entitled “Upgrading the Theme files” in the first post of this thread and verify that you have taken the proper steps.

Okay a few additional questions:
- Are you logging into WPMU’s backend as the site administrator, and not just as a user with administrator privileges?
- You’ve mentioned 404 erros in your other thread. Are there any errors in your log files? If so, what are they?
- Did you go to “BuddyPress > General Settings”, re-select the member theme, and then hit save? Do this even if the theme is already selected.

This is the same issue as the one being discussed in another thread. To get the best support, the discussion should be kept to that single thread. Otherwise, new people joining in will not see what has previously been discussed and tried.
So as not to spread this identical support issue over multiple threads, I’m closing this thread. Please visit the original thread here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2511
Here is a great introduction by Trent Adams to the HyperDB plugin.
As far as this issue is concerned:
If there are other blogs/sites created within the WPMU installation (but not BuddyPress) and other BBPress installations as well, is it recommended that everything reside in the same database, or should things like the additional BBPress installations use a separate database?
…
I don’t want to completely kill whatever server this could potentially end up running on, but quick response times and user integration between all platforms is key. The higher-ups estimate that there would be about 1,000 or so users for the duration of the event,
In this scenario, splitting WPMU data between multiple databases on the same database server will not give you much of an advantage. In fact, it could even slow read/write down slightly. But, if this is a temporary site, which it sounds like it might be, then splitting the load between multiple DB servers is probably not realistic.
The biggest issue will be how many web server and DB server cycles are dedicated to your domain and how many to other people’s domains. If you have a small hosting account, then you’ll absolutely need to upgrade to a decent VPS.
Dang! jjj beat me by 45 seconds!

I had this issue as well about a month ago. The solution is simple. You need to create a new account.
Why? Because, like me, you created an account with a space in your account name (username). Also like me, you choose to use your real name. Logically enough, you put a space between your first and last name. You can see that by hovering your cursor over your name. Do you see the “%20”? That is the space.
This is not a BuddyPress issue. This is an issue with the way that WPMU processes new registrations, allowing spaces in usernames. Unfortunately, this can cause issues.
Andy knows more about this issue than I do, but suffice it to say, when creating your new username, do not put a space in it.
In reply to: Design Goals for BuddyPressAlso, remember that like WPMU, BuddyPress functionality can be extended with plugins. There are a number of developers working tirelessly at doing just that.
With regards to the Groups feature, Nicola Greco has created a plugin that helps to extend BP Groups.

As has been mentioned, there is more to installing WPMU than single-user WP.
Since this is not a BuddyPress support topic but an issue you need to bring up with your hosting provider, I’m setting this thread to resolved.

In reply to: I want to translate BuddyPress to Arabic 🙂Do I need to translate WPMU first ?
Look in the link that DJPaul provided. There is a WordPress translation of Arabic already. I’m not sure what additional work you’d have to do for WPMU. Most likely translation of some of the admin pages. But, I’m not a localization expert.
What will be different because Arabic is RTL language ?
As long as the themes that Arabic users are using properly reference some type of right to left CSS file, then this should not be an issue. Look at rtl.css to see how that works.
Also, look at this relevant BuddyPress thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=245

I thought that was the case! I just wanted to make sure and also to ensure that others reading this recognize that there is a big difference between the two skeletons.
Yes. converting to v1.2 will be necessary. There are a lot of changes and some bug fixes.
Good luck!
In reply to: Where at the Email Settings?Good luck, Tony!
I’m setting this to resolved as this issues is related to WAMP and not BuddyPress.

I am on skeleton component v1.1 and not v1.2.
Just to make sure, you do realize that we are talking about themes and not plugins here?
You are talking about the Skeleton Component for developing a custom plugin, not designing a custom theme. For a custom theme, you would want to use the Skeleton Theme.
Assuming that we are on the same page, then yes, there are significant differences between version 1.1 and version 1.2 of the Skeleton Component. You need to use the newest version. See the changes here: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/creating-a-custom-buddypress-component/

I assume you’re running BuddyPress v1.0. If so, please carefully read the section entitled “Upgrading the Theme files” on this BuddyPress Codex page.
A few questions:
- Are you using the public release of BuddyPress–version 1.0?
- Are you using a custom theme?
- Did you read the section entitled “Upgrading the Theme files” in this BuddyPress Codex link?

In reply to: Antispam pluginI have it installed as a site-wide plugin in /mu-plugins/. Works well with signup process. I have not really experimented with the blog comments aspect though. Perhaps I need to look into this a little more.

I’m currently using (with success) the reCaptcha plugin on a dev site. I used hints from these two BP forum threads:

I hope that helps!
