    The buddybar is either on or off, there’s no way in the core to pick or choose which blogs its visible or not visible on.

    You could, however, write a custom function to do a check against the $current_blog->ID and show/hide it accordingly.

    Sounds like you need to activate BuddyPress to me. ;)

    You need a subversion client. For Windows I recommend TortoiseSVN. It’s a way to check out the “bleeding edge” code that includes all spot fixes and patches to current versions.

    If you ignore empty lines and white space changes, check https://trac.buddypress.org/changeset/2069 for all of the edits I made tonight to the avatar upload and display process.

    @Porscheheritage, if you’re comfortable with SVN, you can try the trunk version.

    Or, apply the fix from here.

    Those you with this problem, try the trunk as of about 10 minutes ago. I reversed some of the logic in how avatars are loaded, but since I don’t have a broken environment myself I don’t know if it will help or not.

    The reason my avatar appears in WPMU is because it’s picking up my Gravatar in those places.

    If WPMU is also having an issue with uploads, then I reckon this is probably not a BuddyPress issue (yet.) :)

    Odd, because in order for the avatar to upload correctly, it needs to be created by being provided a group_id. Is your avatar uploaded and displayed correctly? Technically the group is created after the first step, and the subsequent steps only serve to fill in the settings and options.

    Just registered on your site as “guest”

    When I attempt to create a group. The “previous” and “next” buttons are always there. You’re correct to assume part of the problem is with the avatar cropping tool, because the issue isn’t with groups, it’s with user avatars too.

    Your bug in the trac wasn’t deleted because I responded to it a few hours ago also, but saw the post here and figured it would be the easiest way to find you…

    Are you able to upload images to your WordPress blog?

    I haven’t seen an issue like this before, so this looks like a configuration issue of some kind. I know you’ve said you’ve tried this on a bunch of hosts, but something isn’t jiving on your installs.

    Can you try the updated version of WordPressMU (2.8.5.2) and see if the problem continues?

    Looks like registration is disabled on your site. Do you have a guest username and PW I can use?

    Working on this… You can delete the tweet if you want now.

    If the dutch language pack comes with both po’s and mo’s, then you can rescan the buddypress directory with poedit, update the database from the source, and then proceed with your changes.

    If not, then you’re sort-of out of luck I think. I haven’t found a tool to merge an existing mo into a new po, so it would be a manual process of copy and pasting each preexisting translation.

    PM’s to me have been weird for a few days now. Maybe DM me on twitter @johnjamesjacoby if that works?

    @gazouteast

    Do you have a link to your install that I can join and try to diagnose? I know that there have been issues with the cropping tool, but the current tool is one that now comes included with WordPress and is being used as part of the media editing update coming in WordPress 2.9.

    Disabling the admin bar doesn’t change any functionality of BuddyPress. If you have groups enabled, and your theme gives you a path to the create groups pages, then you can create groups. What you’re looking for is in the userbar.php and optionsbar.php files within the bp-sn-parent directory.

    If you’re using a custom version of bp-default, click on your own profile, click on “Groups” and then “Create Group”

    @joafruit

    Do you have groups enabled? What error message(s) do you receive? What is stopping you exactly from creating a group?

    (I renamed your topic since the title wasn’t very clear. Don’t worry we don’t mess with other peoples posts very often.)

    I’m in the process of updating to 2.8.5.2 so I’ll let you know what I find out…

    Mostly security fixes that were back ported from WordPress 2.9 beta.

    What you’re experiencing is either a PHP version issue, or an out of memory issue. Happens a lot with 1and1 hosting packages.

    Search the forums (or Google) and you should find a solution somewhere, although it might be almost a year or so old at this point…

    I’m going to comb through the kses for the forum posts and see if there’s a way to lighten them up soon. At the moment everything is wrapped up pretty tight to avoid any security issues.

    Hey Ben.

    Who is your web host? Is it 1and1?

    Could be an htaccess issue, could be a missing functions.php file. Do you have a link to your site?

    Group/User Avatar Mix-up (usually after update/upgrade)

    3.0 won’t be until next year unfortunately. 2.9 will be by the end of the year with a beta coming soon.

    @BeLogical:

    What browser and OS? I know Jeff mentioned that he couldn’t send me a PM in particular, but I got PM’s from other users almost daily so I know they do work. Jeff’s on a mac, but then again so are countless other users.

    Regarding your comment in the blog, I’m sure bp.org will get some attention soon. :)

    Best I can tell looking for 30 seconds is that there is no backwards import.

    There’s two places where BP adds users to blogs…

    add_action( 'wpmu_new_blog', 'bp_blogs_record_blog', 10, 2 );

    …and…

    add_action( 'add_user_to_blog', 'bp_blogs_add_user_to_blog', 10, 3 );

    So only when a new blog is created, or a user is added to a blog…

    I’ll look into this more this weekend if no one else chimes in with a better explanation.

    The tables to manually edit would be wp_bp_user_blogs, wp_bp_user_blogmeta, wp_bp_user_blogs_comments, and wp_bp_user_blogs_posts…

    If there really is no import script for previous blogs, add a ticket to the trac as an enhancement request and we’ll see about putting it in. (it may already be there but I’m just too tired to see it at the moment?)

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Because blogs can have more than 1 user/author, there’s no way to really know which user avatar to use for a blog. Blog avatars are coming, and maybe sooner than later, but for the moment there’s nothing in the 1.1.2 core that makes it immediately easy to replace the blog avatars, other than a custom theme of some kind.
