    With the integrated version you won’t have access to the bbPress admin panel to turn them on or off, so external only.

    bbPress being included with BuddyPress is like TinyMCE being included with WordPress. Yes they are applications all their own, but they also live together in a very symbiotic way (without being alive of course.)

    This has been fixed in the trunk in a slightly different way, so feel free to use this until you’re comfortable updating your trunk install again.

    If you’re keeping the same theme setup then upgrading from 1.0 to 1.1 is easy enough. If you plan on having a custom theme I’d say at least get familiar with 1.1 right away so you’re comfortable developing for it sooner than later.

    Hmm… Can you check your server logs to see what’s causing the white screens? Might be a memory or PHP version issue next.

    Try the link below for now and post back with results… Not an official patch yet.

    Looks like you’re not following instructions. :)

    You need to put the absolute path to YOUR file in the include_once area. The plugin comes with a file to help you get that if you’re unsure how.

    Still exists. I’ll make a patch for it now. Noticed this a while ago but didn’t see it was getting output by the template.

    Funny note about this, it’s spelled wrong in the WP core in three places also. :)

    I think that’s still a backwards approach, since the goal is to get the user in touch with other users with similar interests/goals/support/topics/etc… If it only lets them post the topic to the people they already know, it doesn’t really open up any new discussion.

    If you don’t like the free support for the free software, then you can always pay someone to trouble shoot your issues for you on a schedule more suited to your needs.

    The reason it wasn’t working before was because you originally activated the skeleton theme instead of the real members theme. Now that you’ve fixed that and have bpmember active, can you verify for me that the contents of your…

    I think what we all really want to know is…

    Will this plugin keep my thoughts private and protect them from the aliens?

    In the current theme setup, no… So you’re not missing anything. There is no general “New Topic” page mostly because the number of forums that people can create by being able to create their own groups can grow to be pretty enormous.

    It’s the difference between http://testbp.org/forums and http://testbp.org/bbpress/

    The first link is obviously the familiar look of forums in BP1.1, the second link is what the TestBP sites’ bbPress looks like without any taming or control. There are 11,100 groups on that site alone, most of which have test forums. If there was a general “New Topic” page (like http://testbp.org/bbpress/?new=1) you’ll see you just have a select drop down list of 10,000 forums to place your topic in, which isn’t really an effective way to categorize the discussions when displayed in that way.

    I think when people adapt to this method of user/group/topic centric forums versus a top-down categorical list of forums, we’ll see some unique and interesting setups.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    If the group forum is an “open forum” meaning it is not hidden or private, then you will automatically join the group when you post a reply or create a topic in it.

    You would need to add a line to the style.css of your Atahualpa theme, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. :)

    In style.css for Atahualpa, somewhere in the comments section where the theme name, author, and uri are, put…

    Template: bp-sn-parent

    That will tell WordPress to fall back on bp-sn-parent when Atahualpa doesn’t have files of its own to use. It’s still not a 100% fluid process, because the parent theme has its own CSS that it needs and uses to function and look the part. You can @import the style.css for bp-sn-parent and see if that helps at all too.

    Is your webhost 1and1? If so, it’s either a php version issue or a memory issue. Both of these have been addressed previously so give the forum a search and report back if those don’t help!

    Since you have an option to allow certain users, do you have an option to block certain users also? Or, can I allow/block specific users while also allowing logged in users/friends?

    Maybe I should just wait for the alpha. :D

    Never edit the parent theme unless you copy the files out of it and create your own. By editing the parent theme directly you’re risking it not working correctly in future versions.

    Copy the header.php out of the parent theme folder, and into your current active theme folder. bp-default, or whatever else you might be using.

    WordPress will automatically override the parent header.php because files in child themes have a higher priority over parent themes. You won’t need to do anything additional to tell it what to do.

    crocgo, you’re using the skeleton member theme instead of the normal member theme that includes style. Switch your style and you’ll be fine.

    @tore,

    Yes you can. Once everything is where it needs to be, when you go to the group admin area, check the box to create the forum, and that’s it. :)

    @diegorodrigues,

    If you keep trying to re-install bbPress by revisiting the forum setup screen, it’s going to keep telling you to do that step manually if that directory/file does not have write access.

    If it’s asking you to create that file, it means everything else is done and this is your final step that you must do manually.

    When 1.1 is final this issue won’t exist because you won’t need to move the bbPress files around; they will be included in the BuddyPress1.1 zip.

    @podictionary, @diegorodrigues,

    It sounds like you have not yet placed your bbPress files in the buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/ directory.

    @jtle918,

    1. White screens should show up in your server logs; check the offending process and adjust to taste.

    2. Facebook Connect Plugin will probably need some adjusting for BuddyPress1.1. I know other people have experienced some lag, memory, and slowness issues using it.

    3. Yay integration!

    4. I know Burt hasn’t updated the group blogs plugin in a while, but your best bet to set default themes and settings would be to check out the WPMU new blog defaults plugin. You should be able to adapt that to set the blog theme on creation.

    @wordpressfan, you will want to make sure that wp-contents/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/ contains all of the files that come with bbPress.

    When you use the auto-install functionality of BuddyPress forums, it will create a bb-config.php file at the root of your WordPress MU installation.

    Mohit Kumar, since I know you’re a regular around these parts, was this an upgrade from a previous bbPress installation? If so, is that installation external or internal? Were you previously using BuddyPress trunk, or stable release?

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    Or with BuddyPress1.1, inherit them from a parent theme, and CSS your way out of that bag. :)

    @johnjamesjacoby

    With BuddyPress1.1, you can also recreate a custom registration page to include only the fields you specifically want them to have on sign-up, put it in your child theme, and let it do the dirty work.
