    Awesome. No sweat. Sometimes the WordPress back-end can be a little confusing at first.

    Hmm…

    I’ll have to revisit the user delete code, but I’m fairly certain that BuddyPress hooks into that WPMU function and clears out all the additional member info.

    Are you using BP1.0.1?

    If you want your bpmember and bphome theme header.php and footer.php files to always be in sync, this is what I do. It’s a little tricky, but it works really well at keeping multiple theme files totally in sync.

    Copy the code below into a file called hf-sync.php and put it in your wp-content/plugins directory. Then in your WordPress Site Admin, goto your plugins area and activate the plugin called “BuddyPress Synchronized Header/Footer”

    <?php
    /*
    Plugin Name: BuddyPress Synchronized Header/Footer
    Plugin URI: http://buddypress.org
    Description: Header/Footer Synchonization Functions
    Version: 1.0
    Author: John James Jacoby
    Author URI: http://johnjamesjacoby.com
    Tags: BuddyPress, Header, Footer
    Site Wide Only: true
    */

    // Call this in your header.php file.
    // Rename the function to match your theme name.
    function theme_name_header() {
    ?>
    <!-- PUT YOUR HEADER HTML CODE IN HERE -->
    <?php
    }
    ?>

    // Call this in your footer.php file.
    // Rename the function to match your theme name.
    function theme_name_footer() {
    ?>
    <!-- PUT YOUR FOOTER HTML CODE IN HERE -->
    <?php
    }
    ?>

    Then, in whatever header.php and footer.php files that you want to use your universal header/footer code, all you’ll need to do is call the functions above.

    This lets you make edits to both of your header/footer files for both/any/all themes that use this code, in one central location.

    My guess, is that this would/should work very well in keeping bbPress themes in sync also, provided that you insert HTML code to include what bbPress needs also, and make sure not to include that code if bbPress isn’t loaded.

    When you delete a user completely from WordPress/BuddyPress, *they should* be totally deleted. WPMU has a process for this, and BuddyPress simply just hooks into it and calls the same action.

    If you deleted that user only from the blog area (and not the site admin area) that could cause the situation you’re describing?

    Where did you delete the user from?

    I know that WordPress 2.8 uses the updated jQuery version, which will tend to break some older jQuery based scripts (it did on my portfolio site) but I’m not so sure about BP or WPMU.

    Do you have a link to this happening? I’d like to see the page myself to help diagnose.

    Not yet, no ETA.

    There’s going to be a code merge between WordPress.org and WordPressMU code, and this will probably be the way that BuddyPress will make its way into single installations.

    It would require to make some kind of plugin for bbPress.

    The drawback of this ends up to still be the additional query per avatar that you hit the database server with, to ask BuddyPress what each users avatar is for each visible avatar. It might be possible to hook a bbPress function and join the query together to include the extended profile table to get the avatar location, but this type of thing hasn’t been developed or released yet.

    Danielfelice is correct. BuddyPress widgets are available on all active themes that allow for widgets.

    If you’re talking about the member theme, those are widgets actually also, you would just end up reverse engineering the member theme to include both its CSS and the CSS of the “Irresistible” theme.

    loumitch, are you using a custom theme of some kind? Chances are that the theme is broken, or the stylesheet is hiding the content off screen somehow.

    Do you have a link to the problem in action?

    Part of this project depends on how WordPress decides to handle permissions (capabilities and roles) with 2.9+.

    The goal will be for relationship scopes and roles to be set at default and later defined by the administrator of the site, based on what users are allowed to do/see, etc…

    Lots to do! :D

    Chouf1, Burt’s plugin does not do what this talks about.

    Magicdust, it is currently not possible, but would not be too difficult to create such a plugin (or modify the groups plugin to do so.)

    @johnjamesjacoby

    No, not that easy unfortunately. The best way is to use “deep integration” so that you have all of the BuddyPress functions available for bbPress also.

    Otherwise you’d be wise to use Burt Adsit’s bpGroups plugin, and import the user bases extended profile information.

    Deep integration between bbPress and WordPress is the easiest way, along with the bpGroups plugin by Burt Adsit.

    That way you can reference the users avatar and any other Extended Profile meta info.

    Use firefox and install firebug. You’ll be able to see which CSS in what files is styling which elements much better that way.

    Yes, they should if you have the blogs component turned on.

    I have it working successfully at http://delsolownersclub.com that way if you need an example.

    Check out this users activity feed as a reference.

    Cameroncockrell,

    You’re looking at a .htaccess issue with your WPMU installation.

    If you look at the root of your files, did WPMU create a .htaccess file? If not, rename the .htaccess.dist file to .htaccess and report back.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Cool, good work.

    I’d suggest notifying the theme author again and letting them know of your issues.

    Consider that WordPress is going to be at version 2.8 soon, and BuddyPress has just broken the champagne glass as 1.0 a few weeks ago, and already 1.0.1 is out.

    All things come with time.

    BuddyPress is an opensource project just like WordPress. This means that anyone can stomp in and contribute what they’d like, and Andy as the lead developer will get the final say-so as to what makes the cut and what does not. The previously mentioned bpPicture Album plugin is a great example of that. It does the job quite well in my opinion, and is also still not 100% finished.

    I think it would be a pretty large undertaking to merge the WordPress blog attachment method with the BuddyPress member profile area. Considering that if you’re using WPMU and that person has a blog, would you want to have their uploads in their blog also appear in their profile, or would it be a dedicated area for uploads? There’s really a lot of different types of configurations this could take, any/all of which are viable and possible.

    All that needs to happen is for a developer to see the need, and then fill it themselves. :)

    If I try to navigate directly to “www.verivex.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/1/0528091906a.jpg” it says the file doesn’t exist. That’s going to be your first problem. If the file doesn’t get uploaded, it doesn’t exist, and the rest of the functions will fail in order just like you see there as a result.

    Can you upload user avatars? Is it just this group, or any group?

    In reply to: Avatar upload error

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Do you have any other plugins installed that may have protected your uploads directory? Some shopping carts plugins, the sermon browser, and WP Super Cache (I think?) like to mess with the uploads directories, some even password protect them with .htaccess and .htpasswrd files to disallow direct linking to the files.

    It’s strange that your avatar would appear only after deleting it. Do you have access to phpMyAdmin to see if the directory reference in the database is correct when you upload it? What does it look like once you delete it?

    What happens if you just copy the code from bphome/functions.php into your current themes functions.php?

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    My suggestion would be to take the working CSS from your base.css file inside your member theme, and put it in your hometheme’s site-wide.css file.

    That way it will always apply itself to the entire site regardless of theme.

    Arturo, the two days ago trunk of bbPress integrates perfectly. Sam is making some furious edits to the bbPress core to prepare for launch so it’s possible the trunk version may be broken or changed in some way.

    Is this a unicode issue, or a template issue? Could be possible to make your own function to output whatever unicode letters you’d like, and just AJAX search by that instead?
