In reply to: Starting Buddypress/WordPress MU site
Regarding installing bbPress, you will probably need to create a page in your primary blog with the slug of “forums” before WordPress will allow access to it.
In reply to: Starting Buddypress/WordPress MU siteIf you’re new to BuddyPress then chances are you haven’t been down this road before, but I’d advise you to check out some of the stickies and FAQ’s here and spend some time getting educated on all the subtle nuances.
This question has been answered quite a few times, so I’ll give you a hint and if you still can’t figure it out, come back and we’ll see what we can do.
HINT: Check the functions.php included in wp-content/themes/bphome/ and compare it to the functions.php in the theme you're trying to use.In reply to: Profile Field Setup href Bug?I’m posting this from my mobile so I don’t have access to BP code at the moment but I’ll find where the linking happens so you can see how it works. There’s a little science to it, but it’s actually working the way it’s coded to.
In reply to: Profile Field Setup href Bug?You said in your first post that you were able to make it not automatically create links. How did you manipulate that? My guess is something in that modification is causing the problem.
If not, then the problem exists with the way the linefeed exists in the field.
If it’s on 1 line, or comma separated, then they get linked; if not, then no.
In reply to: None of the Pages work after fresh installAre you using a custom theme or the included themes? If custom, then you’re missing the code in functions.php that is needed to route to the BuddyPress specific pages.
Copy the code out of bphome/functions.php and paste it into your themes’ functions.php file, and that should help out quite a bit.
In reply to: BP Avatars (and nothing else!) in bbpress… possible?Burt, I am fairly certain that bbPress allows for functions.php the exact same way that WordPress does. Including it in the header shouldn’t be necessary. Unless this changed recently and I wasn’t paying attention?
In reply to: plugin errorsLots of people run into this issue, not only with BuddyPress but almost any php web package. Web hosts just don’t want to allocate that much memory to their users unless they need it.
In reply to: After installing , i add some profile fields but..My guess (and this is a long-shot) is that you cannot leave the field blank once you’ve entered something in there, but BuddyPress also won’t lock you into that screen if it is.
Otherwise users could find themselves in all sorts of redirect problems going from profile group to group.
I haven’t tried that part yet myself though.
If there’s 5 required fields on the page, and you fill in 4 of them, in my opinion it should still save the 4 you filled in.
In reply to: Tiny AJAX bug in Directory view when using Opera 10I’ll probably check it as resolved once I patch it. Until then anyone else can feel free to stab at it if they’d like.
In reply to: A little word of thanks …Yes, I do in-fact wear a cape to work.
Thanks for the recognition.
In reply to: Tiny AJAX bug in Directory view when using Opera 10Definitely not something to ignore, no matter how small the audience really.
I use Opera periodically, so I’ll take a look at this tonight/tomorrow and make a patch this weekend (if no one beats me to it.)
It’s either that, or get used to keeping track of several versions of each component.
There’s a reason web developers ask to get paid as much as they do.

…the avatar still doesn’t appear at all. Unless WordPress is hi-jacking the direct path somehow, I can’t manage to find that filename anywhere.
In reply to: Manually Edit Users ProfilesYou bet. Eventually this will not be this difficult, but for now it’s the only way.
In reply to: After installing , i add some profile fields but..But, if you leave that screen and go back to it, the information gets saved.
The activity stream doesn’t say it got saved, but they do.
In reply to: Problems Installing BBPressRC2 is basically the public release, but it’s missing some admin panel styling. Functionally speaking though, it’s complete pending any new bugs, etc.
@cozzie, also, try deleting any of your site cookies before you install bbPress. It’s possible that it’s seeing something left over from a previous attempt and seeing you as logged in when you’re not, or seeing you logged in as a non-admin.
In reply to: 404s in latest BP tracked down to qTranslate!Freaking Wildchild, I’m actually in the process still of scraping anything I can out of qTranslate to make a BuddyPress/WPMU specific multi-language plugin. qTranslate had lots of good ideas, but they translate a little strangely to the BP/WPMU way of thinking.
Will probably be a few days before I have a stable RC version available that won’t potentially break your install, but I haven’t abandoned the project by any means.
Wait until the new version of WPMU comes out and uses the NEWER version of jQuery, you’ll get to go through this all over again.
In reply to: Urgent Help!Looks like you’ve got the blog on lock down for right now, so I can’t really help with your issue. My guess is that somehow the activity feed didn’t strip out the chars or give a good slug, so WordPress is going crazy with it, but I’d like to see it in action to make sure.
In reply to: Manually Edit Users ProfilesOnly inside phpMyAdmin. You’d need to dive into the DB and change the info directly for right now.
In reply to: Buddypress 1.0.1: Help with buddybar1.0.1 is a bug fix version, and it’s more stable than 1.0. If you’re experiencing problems after an upgrade, I’d advise you/us to figure out what happened rather than avoid the update/issue all together.
When 1.0.2 comes out, chances are you will still experience the same problems you did with 1.0.1, so the sooner we know what happened is the easier for everyone.
In reply to: After installing , i add some profile fields but..The only fields that show up during registration are the ones in the main group, and even then they have to be marked as required. Any other profile fields won’t show up during registration, but just like Jeff said will need to be filled in.
(Ironically enough, if you save your profile without all of the required fields filled in on the page, it still saves the data. Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I kind of like it like this actually.)
I suspect in the future there will be more selections and features as to which fields to show on registration, etc…
In reply to: Problems Installing BBPressActually RC2 works just fine, but Cozzie I encountered a similar problem when installing it as well, although I could not trace back for the life of me what caused it.
Cozzie, uninstall bbPress from your server (delete the files and remove the database tables starting with “bb_” and try the install again.
Remember to upload your bbPress files from your harddrive, and not from inside the zip file directly. I’ve had some issues doing that in the past with various FTP programs not uploading some files correctly.
If a blog is listed as “Private” in the blog settings, that should also exclude it from the list. It will also exclude it from blog search engines and the like. Not sure how private you want this to be, but that’s about as private as it gets.
In reply to: Forum Integration: HELPING HINTSWhat DJPaul said, is true.
2.8+ versions of WordPress/WordPressMU do NOT need to use the cookie variable above.
