    Wow, this is Codex worthy if you ask me. Good find Burt.

    Check comments.php?

    If it’s a logged in user issue, and you must be logged in to post, then the comments.php file could be the culprit.

    You can currently use the bbGroups plugin by BurtAdsit to do this with group forums. He’s paused integration for other Extended Profile fields and non-group forums for now, but that is the closest integration available currently.

    Take a look over at http://code.ourcommoninterest.org/

    Science Content!

    The problem with doing it any other way right now, is that without grabbing and caching forum specific BuddyPress profile info and putting it into a convenient user_meta array, it would require an additional query into the database for each user that you want each piece of info for. So lets say you not only want the avatar, but their fullname, and another piece of profile info that you’ve made up. That’s three queries a person, per post, per page. A page with 10 posts just gave you 30 extra queries. The bbGroups plugin works great to counter act this, but I’ve been the primary beta tester experiencing hiccups and Burt has patiently been trouble shooting with me to figure out why. The past week life has sort-of halted my ability to test, but it is a priority for me to address.

    (Sigh) it’s okay, but next time we’re taking this to fisticuffs!

    Burt, I was agreeing with you. :D

    Unfortunately not yet, but I suspect this will be something that someone will come around and make, if not to be introduced into the core later on.

    Currently the search is global, searching all fields for one particular phrase. This could probably pretty easily be filtered and narrowed down via a plugin, but currently none exists.

    Double, triple, quadruple check your work…

    You’ll need to change your active theme in the main blog Appearance area also.

    I’m not sure if this is the best answer, but because doing this isn’t a super straight-forward task, I just made a new blog called videos, and changed the links in the header.php files to point to it instead of “/blog”.

    You haven’t uploaded the member theme files to the correct location.

    Check the install directions carefully and try again. :)

    There currently isn’t a way for one user to edit another users extended buddypress information, admin or otherwise.

    Only way to do this at the moment would be through the database directly.

    In theory the idea is to be able to export from MU and import to .org, but I’ve personally never had much success with the import/export proceedure.

    The proof of this is in wp-admin/options-permalink.php, where “/blog” is permanently placed in front of the permalink url on lines 82, 92, and 102.

    The function I was thinking of in functions.php was bp_show_home_blog(), but it doesn’t do exactly what I thought it did the way I thought it did it. :)

    I’m posting from my blackberry so someone can confirm, but I think Andy is saying that the functions.php in the BuddyPress Home theme is what hijacks the url and makes this happen? If I remember correctly? Sorry don’t have the source in front of me at the moment…

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    No it isn’t going to as of yet.

    There is no direct link between a normal forum and BuddyPress. Perhaps the bbGroups plugin could be modified to handle this type of thing, but that’s just handing Burt more implied work to do. ;)

    Good job getting everything synchronized though!

    Currently the Extended Profile fields do not have an option to explain to the plugin or template engine what kind of filters to apply to them, so by default they all become searchable unless they are an unformatted URL.

    HTML is currently stripped from textarea fields. My guess is eventually each field will have more than just a “type” but also a logic behind it too, just not for the 1.0 release.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Naw it’s not even really like that… yet… ;D

    For me, right now it’s more like an easter egg hunt…

    Look for the solution, find it, return it to the basket.

    In that analogy, you’re the basket I guess… :)

    @johnjamesjacoby

    You simply can’t do it, but the old posts should still direct you to their new locations.

    Well, I suppose you could change the /blog to / but I’d hate to see what kind of havoc that could cause.

    Proceed at your own risk...

    Site Admin->Blogs->Edit your main blog

    Change "Path" to "/" and "Permalink Structure" to remove "/blog" and see what happens.

    My guess is dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria. :X

    Not yet. The reason 1.0 is slightly delayed is so that WPMU can be installed to allow for always-on plugins like BuddyPress to be part of the automatic updater going forward.

    For now it’s a manual process, but it won’t always be that way.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Wow that’s neat.

    Any demos? I couldn’t find one after 2 seconds so I got lazy and figured I’d ask. :)

    The point is to allow multiple users per blog, as editors, admins, etc…

    Good work figuring it out tho! See, us mods do know a thing or two! ;)

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    Yes you may.

    Yes there can, through a plugin.

    The answer has been here waiting for you.

    More specifically, here. :D

    WordPress has always allowed for multiple ways to access a specific post, even if your permalink structure is setup in a specific way.

    More than one way to get to the same link, and both are valid, and both could lead Google down different paths to the same destination. Granted, this is on a non-MU install, but MU suffers the same fate, only with multiple blogs.

    Without having /blog or /news or /something there, now you’re opening up the risk of having overlapping post/page slugs. If you write a blog entry named “members” what would you want to happen? Goto the blog post, or BuddyPress’s members page? Multiple that times 100 individual minds blogging outside of your control, and you see how that can be dangerous.

    Trust me when I say that I understand what you’re saying, I do, and I can see how this could be something to consider when making the move to use MU and/or BuddyPress, but Google can recover quickly and so can your 5000 posts if they’re important and relevant. :)

    Also, just for fun, lets goto…

    http://delsolownersclub.com/blog/2009/02/09/del-sol-mugen-side-steps/

    and then…

    http://delsolownersclub.com/2009/02/09/del-sol-mugen-side-steps/

    Looks like both take you where you need to be?

    Not quite ready to mark this one green, but it looks like a correctly installed BuddyPress/MU won’t give you this problem…

    I would do this by going into /member-themes/buddypress-member/blogs/create.php and doing…

    <?php if ( bp_blog_signup_enabled() ) : ?>
    <?php
    global $bp;
    $blogs = bp_blogs_get_blogs_for_user($bp->loggedin_user->id);
    if ($blogs['count'] != 9)
    {
    bp_show_blog_signup_form();
    }
    else
    {
    ?>
    <div id="message" class="info">
    <?php _e( 'Limit nine blogs per member. If you would like another, please contact an Admin for assistance.', 'buddypress' ); ?>

    </div>
    <?php
    }
    ?>

    <?php else: ?>

    <div id="message" class="info">
    <?php _e( 'Blog registration is currently disabled', 'buddypress' ); ?>

    </div>

    <?php endif; ?>

    Just remember not to overwrite the member theme if you do a BuddyPress update. ;)

    Hahah! If by sexy sexy you mean dedicated BuddyPress supporter, then I’m forced to agree. :)

    Thanks for greening this.

    As a general suggestion, and maybe to put the thought out there to everyone, it might not be a bad idea to try to reign in the Group/Rank/Category hierarchy idea before anyone/everyone gets too used to the plugin idea of this.

    I think that if we’re going to categorize groups, then we should sub categorize groups, and then those members ranked above other members would have access to all of the sub groups. If that makes sense?

    This is an auths issue as well, and one that I’m going to keep in mind for later regarding bp auths.
