For anyone having the same problem…

I’ve figured out that you can’t see the register page while you’re logged in. (D’uh!)

I logged out and clicked in my site menu for the register page, and there it was! I filled in the u/n, p/w and email fields, and the register email arrived. The link within took me back to the activate page, saying ‘account activated, you may now log in’.

@mercime Yes – that’s where I was looking. I have no reference to Pretty Permalinks on that page.

Hi mercime. Thanks for your reply. I was under the impression that bbPress (I don’t actually know what that is) is integrated into the new BuddyPress, so I should have it if BP is installed.

I’ve settled in at the codex you directed me to, trying to work my way from the very start. In the Before You Install section, it mentions ‘pretty permalinks’. But again, I don’t know what that is. In the Settings>Permalinks page in my Dashboard, there’s no reference to it. Searching for it as a plug-in doesn’t seem to find anything.

I seem to be missing stuff, and I don’t know whether it’s me or the plug-in. I’m not seeing a Forums tab in the Settings window, and I’m not seeing anything new at all, post BP installation, when I look at the website itself.

Should I be seeing more than I am seeing directly after installing BP? If not, why not?

Hi Hugo. Thanks so much for your reply.

I’m building my site directly (nothing is downloaded on my computer). I’ve read there’s some way to do things by downloading and ftping up to the host site, but I have no idea how to do that. Is there any way I can install v1.7 directly from the ‘add plug-in’ page on my site?
