    @maythil

    Doesn’t it work with bp 1.2.3?

    It worked, Andrea. Thanks aplenty.

    I am not sure that the plugin itself is the cause Andrea, but I will try what you suggested, and get back to you.

    Andrea, I am talking about fresh installations, as intact as they come — before I could have meddled with any settings or added any plugin (other than BP). You must have noticed that the extra slash comes somewhere in the middle; not immediately after the WP folder name:

    /zebra/members//settings/general/ was not found on this serve

    I installed WP thrice, each time using a new MySql database, but installation was done through cPnale Fantastico. Do you think that could have made a difference?

    Frankly, I am least interested in blogs. I settled for WP because of BP, just for BP. I thought, with the social network and a forum around, I could use a single blog for all my CMS needs. The intended site is for reproducing the weekly articles I write for a newspaper column.

    Regards.

    But how came the extra slash?

    After /zebra/ anything is put by WP itself.

    What internal error must have caused it?

    @maythil

    Well, I found it in style.css itself. Thanks a lot.

    Whichever menu item I click, I get the following error mrssage at http://onlicone.com/zebra.

    This is an exmaple.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    With regular WP and Buddypress, I reach an error page whatever menu item I click.

    WP regular with buddypress doesn’t show groups and forums.

    What’s is “one single WP”? and how to turn off of blogs?

    1. problem with blog creation

    My wpbp installation is in the folder http://mydomain.com/mywpbp.

    When someone wants to create a blog the url he gets is http://hisblog/mydomain.com/mywpbp, which of course won’t work. Any solution? Can I use the present installation with some changes, or have I to start from scratch with a new installation?

    2. Just one blog

    This may sound funny because wpmu is meant for creating many blogs.

    However, my main attraction is in the social network miraculously made possible by buddypress.

    For my needs, I only want a single blog (for the admin to put contents) and a social network for users (which includes groups and forums, with the blog-creation option invisible to them).

    Is there a way to handle this?

    Hello DJPaul,

    My apology, if it’s the wrong forum, DJPaul.

    I started using WP only because of BP — for a social network.

    (I must say “re-started using”, because at a time when I wanted to run a multi-blogal site, I tried out all the softwares available, including WP, and finally settled for Nucleus).

    Apart from that … One doubt.

    Can one re-use an activation link without entailing an error message, enter the site concerned and login successfully? After reading your note, for a test, I tried to re-use activation links from several sites, and each of them promptly flashed an error message.

    No Response. Maybe wrong forum again.

    Can someone tell me which file contains the Registration Form input items?

    Is it a BP file or WP file?

    There was an error in my last post. What I want is:

    (1) to move the logo (now ‘socialnetwork’) to replace ‘search’,

    (2) move Members/Groups/Blogs to the Admin Bar and,

    (3) remove the bar that contains the logo-gif and Home/Blog/Members/Groups/Blogs

    Hello, Codyb

    The SocialNetwork logo is named logo.gif, I think. You can find it in two places:

    1. WP-Content > themes > buddypress-home > images and

    2. WP-Content > bp-themes > buddypress-member > images.

    Replace both with your desired logo and try.

    @maythil

    Just change it back to “bphome” and try.

    It’s not advisable to change names of folders and files.

    I am surprised that, if you were “advised” to do so,

    why didn’t you consult the forum before doing it?

    If it is a prerequisite for future upgrades,

    BP would have been the first to bring it to your attention, right?

    Jeff, I rewrote the code like this:

    <?php if ( is_user_logged_in() ) : ?>

    <?php bp_search_form() ?>

    <?php endif; ?>

    <?php bp_login_bar() ?>

    It works well.

    but on second thoughts, i think i can dispense with “search”.

    Is there anyway

    (1) to move the logo (now ‘socialnetwork’) to replace ‘search’,

    (2) move Members/Groups/Blogs to the Admin Bar and,

    (3) remove the yellow band totally?

    IT WORKED, DAVID! That\\\’s is wonderful.

    I had already experimented with things \\\”in core.css\\\”

    but I think the critical change is:

    ” in admin-bar.css

    1) remove ”left: 0;” from #wp-admin-bar (so this absolutely positioned element will center itself within the body)\\\”

    Once this change is made, the site became 800px wide.

    I still have some minor problems.

    All the Admin bar items (My Account, My Blogs, Notification) work fine.

    but in the 2nd horizontal menu, \\\’Blog\\\’ still displays the horizontal scroll bar.

    The main thing is BP can work perfectly within 800px.

    Some columns can be made wider, there\\\’s enough space for that.

    Maybe I must take a look at right & left padding.

    I really don\\\’t know how to thank you.

    Thanks for a detailed reply, David.

    No, I am not using Mac.

    Yes, I want the width to be 800px (in fact, less than that, to get rid off the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of my screen).

    I was on a trial-and error spree at a testing site, and was able to found the differences you have mentioned and have reached the same conclusion.

    “the difference between profile pages and other pages seems to be that profile pages have two left sidebars with a fixed width of 138px (#optionsbar and #userbar) while the other pages have a single right sidebar (#sidebar) without any width defined (i.e. 100%). Meanwhile, #main is used on all pages and has a min-width of 680px. So unless you change some CSS code… the profile pages will always be at least 956px wide.”

    Yes I have tried the max/mini width in the base.css, making both 800px, and it works on the main page and the some other pages as well (that is, under the second horizontal menu). It should work (after all IE6 displays all pages in 800px).

    I am not sure how atentive I was to #main. I must try it. I must say your reply has given me some hope and a better idea about things, but I will add that BP still has a bug. On buddypress.org itself you can see that: the header or admin bar is fixed at 800px; it can’t adjust its width with that of the rest of the site. It works well with Firefox if I use: #wp-admin-bar { width: 960px !important; } … but it should work automatically.

    I am also testing Elgg; several adjustments are pretty easier there compared to BP, but I perfectly agree with you: “It has some features I need that BP currently lacks… but BP is clearly much superior otherwise”. in addition BP has a very pleasant, elegant look. This is why I want to stick with BP and spend hours on my WPMU site.

    Regards.

    Hello, DJPaul,

    My note was not an ode to IE6 (in fact, I have created several websites using simple HTML and my biggest problem was always IE6). I mentioned IE6 precisely because it’s hated and unsupported by most and yet somehow is able to solve the width problem inherent in BP.

    I stressed on the problem again because (1) it’s after using RC2 and (2) I have more precise details this time. The width discrepencey I mentioned is as found in buddypress.org itself and it’s applicable to Firefox, which is my default browser for your information (I like Firebox, if I ignore their imposition of ask.com)

    I am not an expert; just an observant user. If I am capable of creating a patch myself for resolving the problem, what am I doing here! And, at any rate, creating a patch is impossible unless I know where the problem lies precisely.

    If nobody is going to answer, it’s ok with me.
