In reply to: “This group does not have a forum setup yet.”
@abbas667 there are indeed some who have not succeeded in installing group forums but there have been many many more who have successfully gotten their group forums plus sitewide forums going for old and new installations.
What we’re doing now is troubleshooting to see why it’s not working for you and how to resolve this. I can empathize with your situation and frustration, but in order to assist you, we need to know the answers to the questions I posted above – WP/BP versions, hosting, etc.
You should also check out – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
Then, to enable forum in each group – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/4/#forums-faqs
@verteus You need to install the Group Forums first, then you have to enable forums for each group.
In reply to: [Resolved] A Simple Link To The Users Profile Page@mrguythornton Another way to add profile link to add to what @chrisclayton posted above.
You can filter
wp_nav_menuto include the profile link in custom menu (unless your theme author created his own custom menu for the theme). We add in the requirement for the link to show up only if the user is logged in. The following is added to theme’s functions.php file:// Filter wp_nav_menu() to add profile link add_filter( 'wp_nav_menu_items', 'my_nav_menu_profile_link' ); function my_nav_menu_profile_link($items) { if (!is_user_logged_in()) return $items; else $profilelink = '<li><a href="' . bp_loggedin_user_domain( '/' ) . '">' . __('Visit your Awesome Profile') . '</a></li>'; $items = $items . $profilelink; return $items; }@zillabuggs have never installed any WP/BP on Windows because of many possible issues. Adding “Windows server” to title of this topic even it’s possible that it’s not a server issue.
== My users are putting posts on, but you cannot view all of the post. . I am referring to a groups page with 3 groups set up on it.==
To clarify, do the members actually get to publish that group forum topic in the first place? As in, do they see a message that the forum post was successfully published after they post similar to what you see happen when you post here – “Your reply was posted successfully”?
Sorry, not getting this -> “groups page with 3 groups set up on it”
What specific relevance does the Groups Directory (?) page have to do with your issue?What theme are you using?
In reply to: Create a Group page won’t load [ fixed ]@dubraker glad you resolved your issue and thanks for the heads up.
In reply to: New Install Issues== I just went ahead and picked a theme that had BuddyPress built in. I’m having other issues, ==
@xenoflare There are many “BuddyPress-ready” themes which have not been updated for a while.
I suggest that you install Theme Check plugin and the Log Deprecated Notices plugin. The first plugin tests your theme and make sure it’s up to spec with the latest WP theme review standards. The second plugin identifies if there are deprecated functions being used in the theme and if so, offers the alternative if available.
The two plugins above will help prevent headaches if things go awry in your installation.
In reply to: [Resolved] 500 error after activating@jetgirlart looks like you’ve resolved your server error issue. The wp-admin/index.php correctly redirects to wp-login.php when I checked.
In reply to: “This group does not have a forum setup yet.”== why the report bug page is not working in site ==
You need to log-in again in trac with same username and password== our forums problem still not fix. please help ==
@abbas667 start your own topic.When asking for support, include WP/BP versions, theme used, plugins installed, single WP or multisite, Linux/Windows hosting, WP installed in domain root or subdirectory,
Did you go through the Installation Wizard after activating BuddyPress?
Did you change to bp-default and deactivate other plugins?
If you deleted bbPress forum tables in database, did you also delete bb-config.php file in root so you can re-start installation of the Group Forums?In reply to: Create a member group for non members?== when a reader (not logged in) goes to the groups page, there is a button that says “Create a member group” ==
@b1gft No. That button should not be there if user is not logged and if Site Admin disables creation of groups by members.
@1337h4nd WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? Linux/Windows hosting? Single WP or Multisitie? If changing to bp-default theme didn’t work, have you tried deactivating plugins except BuddyPress and resetting permalinks? I’ve seen two instances where that happened and both were due to themes which have not been updated to latest BP versions.
In reply to: Long forum posts don’t work@creaturis From recent WPorg forum post – https://wordpress.org/support/topic/cant-post-big-post?replies=7
From old post but valid in some installs – http://www.undermyhat.org/blog/2009/07/sudden-empty-blank-page-for-large-posts-with-wordpress/
For more assistance, please post at the WP Forums – How to and troubleshooting
@capnmarrrrk This is now about microglobalscope.org, right?
== So the structure is Microglobalscope.org with there being another network site at /sydney ==
Sanity check. You mean you installed WP at domain root Microglobalscope.org and made it multisite (network). Then you created a physical subdirectory and installed WP there as well and created another network?
And what do you mean by “microglobalscope.org/sydney which does the same thing as the test site. with the redirect.”? What redirect and why?
In reply to: Buddypress updatesCan’t be said often enough, backup DB before upgrading and watch out for WP and add-on BP plugin compatibility as well.
Which forum are you referring to – Group Forums (internal bbPress for BP) or Sitewide Forums (bbPress plugin)?
WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? What other plugins are activated? Windows/Linux hosting? More info about your installation is welcome
In reply to: [Resolved] 500 error after activatingAre you still at ixwebhosting? I just set up a new BP install there. Edit – Deactivate plugins via FTP by renaming plugin folder and change automatically to Twenty Eleven by renaming the folder of the theme you were using when you activated BuddyPress.
In reply to: Activity page redirects to homepage1. Create a Network in subdirectory structure
2. Set which blog ID BuddyPress will run on: For example, your new sudirectory, /network is the first subsite you created (therefore with ID #2), then add this to your wp-config.php
`define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 2 );`3. Install and activate BuddyPress. Go through Installation Wizard.
4. Install and activate https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/threewp-broadcast/ where you broadcast posts from /network/ into main site which will have a regular WP theme. Author link, if theme dev added it per post, would link to main site’s author.php/archive.php file which will list author’s posts in main site only and will not link back to /network/ site.
Should you have any issues with ThreeWP Broadcast plugin, please post at WordPress Multisite Forums or at plugin WordPress.org
In reply to: New Install Issues@xenoflare As I see it, you’re using the bbPress Twenty Ten theme that’s bundled with bbPress plugin. I recommend you create a child theme of Twenty Ten, copy over the styles there, and activate. Then run Appearance > BP Compatibility and keep the bp.css and js enabled. The instructions for Step Three of BP compatibility are in page 2 of the link I posted above.
In reply to: BP-Default theme header== how do i safely remove the blue background in the header. ==
@idowu create a bp-default child theme, go to wp-admin Appearance > Header and upload your header image. That’s it. Then override stylesheets. https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: Collate Custom Profile Fields DataThere’s no member/xprofile exporter compatible with BP 1.5.5 at this time. There’s the outdated https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-export-users/ but it’s good up to WP 3.1.4 and BP 1.2.8 only which a plugin developer could check out and should revise to be compatible with BP 1.5.5.
You can probably start off by exporting the tables from your database: wp_bp_xprofile_data; wp_bp_xprofile_fields; wp_bp_xprofile_groups and wp_bp_xprofile_meta but the best bet is to have a developer set this up
In reply to: Adding functionalities on BuddyPress Profile OptionsThere’s http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-simple-front-end-post/ but you have to add/adjust some code to customize it to what you need.
B. COPY your theme’s sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and at the TOP, above all code contained within, add this
``Then at the BOTTOM of sidebar-buddypress.php, below all other code, add this:
`jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});`
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/peekaboo/ at the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are in
Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.
@kiddie Per option #1 discussed above, you only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, members, groups, register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the bottom of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
``Save file.
@kiddie To clarify, there are two methods for making the necessary template changes. to fix alignment see https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#fixalignment
In your case, we can do either method and I added disclaimers above in #1 and #2 – re page title etc. You do not create 2 new blank files – I’ll give the code for those two files if that’s the option you want OR a different set of instructions if you opt for #2
If you’re using a child theme of bp-default theme, you could instead create a blank home.php file then in it you only add one line:
“
then upload home.php to your child theme’s folder in server
