In reply to: Best way to downgrade to 1.2.5.2
— Any other things to notice? —
I recall BP 1.2.5.2 was compatible with WP 3.0.1
Having said that, you would need to upgrade to WP 3.0.5 because of important security updates. With the upgrade to 3.0.5, BP compatibilty is version 1.2.7 at least.
Here’s a log of BP/WP release timeline
– BuddyPress 1.2.6 – October 21, 2010
– WordPress 3.0.2 – November 30, 2010 mandatory security update
– WordPress 3.0.3 – December 8, 2010 a security update
– BuddyPress 1.2.7 – December 22, 2010
– WordPress 3.0.4 – December 29, 2010 Important Security Update
– WordPress 3.0.5 – February 7, 2011 security hardening updateGood luck with whatever you decide.
In reply to: Custom theme- member profile css issueCool, didn’t expect that on first try. Glad it worked out for you
In reply to: Custom theme- member profile css issueDifferent devs roll out their own WP/BP themes in different ways. In your case, if you made a custom WP theme, did you install the BP Template Pack or did you make it BP-compatible another way?
I have seen a similar problem with an install of BP Template Pack. If you added CSS from bp-template pack via import or added BP-specific CSS at bottom of your WP theme’s style.css, you could add this at the bottom of your active theme’s style.css file. Make sure it’s below all other styles you posted before to make it work.
`div#item-header div#item-header-avatar {
float: left;
height: 150px;
margin-right: 15px;
}div#item-header div#item-header-content {
float: left;
margin-left: 0px;
}`Of course, this is just a stab in the dark as you might have had conflicting styling in your theme’s stylesheet which can’t seen via images you posted alone
In reply to: Custom theme- member profile css issueDepends, when you say profile, is it just the xprofile page or each member’s section as a whole? Depends also if the selector you used was too specific that it affected only my-pages e.g. and not all other pages. So many reasons, hard to say without examples of what you mean.
In reply to: WordPress 3.1== a comprehensive online listing of all buddypress plugins and their compatibility issues – with WP 3.x and among each others ==
That would a great BP community project if members could/would submit their lists of compatible/incompatible BP plugins. Also would be great if someone could check code of current BP plugins if these were updated to meet this http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/updating-your-buddypress-plugins-for-1-2-8/
it would be cool if at the very least, something like what Andy Peatling came up with before for previously released BP plugins when BP 1.2 rolled out.
WP.org Forums has some Troubleshooting Tips for those who have issues after upgrading to WP 3.1
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-31-master-listIn reply to: Permalinks Changed Out of the Blue@gregfielding have you resolved this issue yet? I encountered same problem on WP install subdomain structure with domain mapping on some subsites while testing some plugins last month – so it’s not exactly the same scenario as yours. I was able to resolve this by resetting Permalinks to what it was before in backends of main site and two subsites (without mapped domains). It worked for all sites in that install. Good luck.
In reply to: buddypres doesn’t workLooks like you’re on single WP. Are you on Linux or Windows server? Have you checked out this Codex info – https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks?
Deactivate BuddyPress and resolve permalink structure first.
Open up your site’s .htaccess file and compare it to example in article above. If different, then save a copy of your .htaccess file to a safe place, and replace what’s in .htaccess file in your server with what’s posted in article above related to your server setup.
If that doesn’t resolve your issue, you can get more assistance at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
In reply to: Changing the code in the BuddyPress filesIn reply to: cannot enable multisite after buddypress installIf you have BP installed already, and you want to enable multisite https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network :
1. You need to deactivate all WP/BP plugins and change to default theme (twentyten) first.
2. Note, that if you have had single WP for some time, you can only go multisite in subdomain structure i.e. http://newsite1.example.com. Make sure that your server is set up for that.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network#Step_2:_Setting_Wildcard_Subdomains
3. You only add `define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true);` to wp-config.php to get `Tools > Network` in your dashboard to start the process. If your server is up to the task, follow dashboard message to enable multisite in your install.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network#Step_3:_Allow_Multisite
= If you encounter multisite creation problems, resolve that first in WP forums https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite before re-activating BP/WP plugins.In reply to: bbPress files were not foundI would say, upgrading to WP 3.1 and BP 1.2.8 is risky for live installs. Some BP plugins will break.

Sorry folks; had comments turned off on accidentIn reply to: Change Menu BarThere are several tabs – in unordered list #nav. Basically, this is what’s in default theme’s style.css
`#nav {
bottom: 0;
list-style: none outside none;
margin: 0;
max-width: 95%;
padding: 0;
position: absolute;
right: 15px;
}`Change `right: 15px;` to `left: 15px;` You might even want to increase the height of your header area.
In reply to: Instant Messaging FeatureEven if plugin is Free, if it “messes up BuddyPress”, I wouldn’t use it.
If you are a premium member of BuddyDev, downloaded latest BP Gallery version in the past two weeks, and can’t get it working in your site, then you should have posted in the member-only BP Gallery forum (link redirects to forum directory for non-members) to get the plugin you paid for working in your site.
Why don’t you post the link to the BuddyDev’s member forum topic with your request for assistance re BP Gallery here? Brajesh is quite very very good at troubleshooting to help you get it running. Heck, I’ll even throw in my 2cents worth
After all, it’s just sad if you threw away a cool plugin you already paid for.Cheers.
In reply to: buddypres doesn’t workGo to dashboard menu Settings > Permalinks and choose permalink other than default permalink and save. Mod_rewrite must be enabled in your server for BuddyPress to work.
In reply to: Instant Messaging Feature@Histrion You have been misinformed. I have been using BP Gallery in different sites since its alpha version more than a year ago (early 2010) where it already had image, audio and video galleries for groups. I can say it continues to shine code-wise and feature-wise. Brajesh has consistently rolled out updated/improved BP Gallery versions each time BuddyPress and/or WP/MU/MS has been updated and whenever necessary in between. I have not experienced “collapsing of plugin” at any time. Maybe you’re writing about a different plugin

BP Gallery is work of @sbrajesh = BuddyDev.com. Brajesh has also made the “Pretty Gallery plugin for BP Gallery” as an add-on plugin for the special effects on media uploaded already via BP Gallery. And, he never claimed to have created Pretty Gallery plugin in the first place. He is a professional who gives credit where credit is due.
As for BP Chat, it is still in beta – http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-chat/ – which means it’s not stable yet.
You are free to use other chat plugins just as you are free to use other gallery/album plugins.
Cheers.
In reply to: Blank page for members=== I think the problem is related with theme’s root or something like this. ===
Did you change Settings – Permalinks to other than default. Did you change theme to bp-default theme, deactivate all other plugins except BP?In reply to: Pagination still not workingI see ` [symposium-members]` in what should be the members directory page. Could it be that you installed WP-Symposium previously and forgot to remove the shortcodes from Pages you had to create for Symposium’s components? Remove the shortcodes/Pages.
In reply to: Forum errorDid you change Settings > Permalinks to other than default setting? mod_rewrite must be enabled in your server.
In reply to: Problems setting up Buddypress@Maichomper as r-a-y mentioned above, there’s just so many things which could trip up a 500 internal server error. Do you have access to your error log, and what does it say?
== I was able to activate BP by modifying the .htaccess file ==
Actually you shouldn’t have needed to revise anything in htaccess file to make BP work. Do post content of your .htaccess file and indicate what your modifications were.
Are you on Windows server? Where are you hosted?Good spot. And, the current users should add the styling (lines 472-475) for the .one-column in their child theme’s style.css as well while waiting for 1.3.
In reply to: Problems setting up Buddypress@Maichomper – “I just installed WP today and it is working fine”
How did you install WP, via script like Fantastico/Simplescript or via manual upload (FTP or cPanel)? If you installed via script, start from scratch — drop DB tables and delete wp-config.php and .htaccess file in server — download fresh WP https://wordpress.org/download/and upload WP files manually@chipy you should start a new topic instead. In the meantime, click on the link to update permalinks. If that doesn’t work, go to menu Settings > Permalinks and choose permalink to other than default permalink and save. Mod_rewrite must be enabled in your server.
Thanks @hnla. Now that’s a good example.

I’d like to give credit where credit is due. StudioPress comes to mind as one of the big theme developers who bravely went into BP theme market way before Woo did. Of course way before StudioPress officially did so, there’s WPMUDev who navigated successfully through the waters of bp-sn-parent and the member themes as well and continues to come up with great BP themes with BuddyDress. Much more kudos to the individual theme devs who released their BP themes and child themes to the BP community, even way before WPMUDev rolled out BP themes
