In reply to: Theme Protection@janismo I get what you mean. Perhaps set up a deterrent by importing multiple CSS files which are all compressed into one-liners and see how patient the other would be in transforming the one line into accepted format. Thing is, there are applications that can even copy and download whole websites lock, stock and barrel without requiring FTP passwords. In relation to this, there’s a website which has an extensive list of well-known websites beside screenshots/URL’s of reported sites which completely copied the original site’s design to a pixel, complete with stolen content.
This worked when I used it early last year.

I swear, I only posted once
seriously.=== At the bottom of a given post, I want users to be able to comment or start a discussion forum on a specific element about the building in the post. ===
Enable commenting from dashboard menu Settings > Discussions.
=== Can I assign forums to posts instead of groups? ===
Why? There’s already commenting in posts with threaded comments – if your theme is set up for this.
== Is there a simple way to do this? ===
Yes. Just install the Maintenance Mode plugin and you’re good to go developing BP in main site. No need to develop BP in secondary blog. You can even add some styling or image/s to Maintenance Mode page while you’re at it.
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy: Can we get it in core?ahhh … why was my post duplicated?
In reply to: BuddyPress Privacy: Can we get it in core?+1 Privacy into core.
In reply to: BuddyPress Alternative WP Symposium@Svenl77 Tested it late last month. Aside from the similarity with Mingle plugin and with upcoming BP version 1.3 of rendering components as pages, WP Symposium still has some way to go before it can become a serious contender of BuddyPress which handles a full grown network of users and sites.
Having said that, the development of WP Symposium is coming along fast and looks like Simon Goodchild is meeting deadlines, so big kudos to him. Also, initial testing shows I can activate WP Symposium in each subsite (though a bit buggy in my install) so that’s a big plus for those who are looking for a social engine for each subsite. I can only surmise that if there were more devs helping Simon, it’ll be really cool plugin to use.
In reply to: Are all members reachable by other members?Look over “Configuring BuddyPress Components” https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/
In dashboard menu BuddyPress > Components, do not enable private messaging. Other than that, anyone can request for and possibly get a response for contact information whether they post in forums or blog posts. In reply to: 404 errors on every LinkLooks like you’re using a Windows server. I recall someone in this forum or in WP.org using that solution to offset lack of mod_rewrite. Maybe others who use Windows server can chime in.
In reply to: Cant create groups???@tubruk to troubleshoot why you can’t create groups, you will need to strip down to default BuddyPress installation because a custom theme or a plugin may be interfering with what can easily be done – creating groups – with a clean BuddyPress installation.
That’s why I suggest that you change your theme to default theme and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress. Clear cache. Then see if you can create groups.
– If you can create groups, then change theme back to your custom theme and check if you can create groups. If not, then the problem is your custom theme. Contact theme author.
– If you can create groups, then activate BP plugins one by one to see which one is interfering with your group creation. If a plugin interferes with your group creation, contact plugin author. In reply to: Cant create groups???@tubruk WP/BPversions? Change to bp-default theme, keep BP activated and deactivate all other plugins.
In reply to: .htaccess problem?@theartillerist do you mean you’re still using WPMU 2.9.2 or do you mean you installed WP 3.0.4 and created a network – multisite? In any case, you do not create a physical subdirectory with a .com at the end because all subdirectories and subdomains created with WP multisite are all virtual. You should read or re-read Create a Network.
After installing WP at domain root, create a network then use the domain mapping plugin so that a new domain name e.g. theartillerist.com, would be pointed to domain root so it can be retrieved in subsite.
Before installing BuddyPress, do resolve all installation and configuration issues including domain mapping at WP.org multisite forums – https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite
@rjhoward of course you’re free to develop in whatever platform is easier to tweak and mold to what you want. There are other options in the market – free and paid.
Related to create group problem above, when you can’t get default BP behavior working in your install, change to bp-default theme and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress plus rename bp-custom.php and the mu-plugins folder.
Cheers.@Ann_Whitt_Wen You’re welcome. Good to know that you’ve resolved the issue

@markbannister in your case, change selector to your container div ID’s
`body.groups div#sidebar_right { display: none }
body.groups div#content-main { width: 900px; }`@sumale.nin to make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress, you need to install and activate BuddyPress Template Pack plugin. Then go to dashboard menu Appearance > BP Compatibility and go through the process.

In reply to: I Wanna Poke Somebody!@thealchemist does that include a counter with “You’ve been poked 20 times, teased 23 times, kissed 100 times and the like?
In reply to: disable secondary avatarIn reply to: dropdown css and forum import@VirtualityReiki I would do this in test installation, uploading copies of your server files and importing database of your bbPress install.
Assuming your bbPresss is in subdirectory, http://example.com/forums/, install WP at domain root using the same database as your bbPress install. Install and activate BuddyPress. Then follow this: https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/using-an-existing-bbpress-installation/ where you point to the bb-config.php file in http://example.com/forums/. Note that in this scenario, creating forum topics will have to be through BP Groups.
You can also do it the other way noted in the codex article, but the integration is not quite that easy
I remember going through 28 steps or so for an external forum integration pre-BP1.2. In addition, bbPress is being converted into a WP plugin which will work well with BP sometime this year so there’s hope that there’ll be a “switch” so that forums won’t be dependent on BP Groups component. Now that’s weird. In your previous activation, only the register function did not work so it is ironic that now only register is working and the BP component pages are not. From where you were in your post above:
1. Deactivate BP Template Pack, then delete BP Template Pack folders/files within your active theme folder.
2. Activate BP Template Pack, check if all pack template files were transferred in your active theme’s folder. If not, transfer only the missing files observing folder structure.I just activated BP Template Pack v1.0.2 in a WP 3.1 RC2 and BP 1.3 trunk 3805 test installation earlier today and all template files from BP Template Pack transferred to twentyten, the active WP Theme and working great. Of course some styling needs to be done but other than that, looks okay.
