In reply to: MobPower.org – Social Network for Change!
Not skeptical here, but surprised that we would even need to log in before seeing how we can help others via mobpower.org, just unnatural in my view. After all, this is the Gallery section of BP where you show off your site, not the login or register pages only
@Diesel Laws, you’re right. There is no Miscellaneous settings in WPMU because avatar uploads go to
e.g. BP in main blog_id_1
wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/avatars/ plus folders for user 1/ 2/ 3/ etc. and
wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/group-avatars/ plus folders for group 1/ 2/ 3/ etc.
Can you see if your avatars and group-avatars folders were created in the /files/ folder?
If they have been created, can you see the images uploaded as avatars in the 1/ 2/ 3/ etc folders inside avatars and group-avatars folders?
If not, you might want to check folder permissions in your server, if 755 does not work then try 777 at /files/ folder. If that still doesn’t work, CHMOD 777 the /1/ folder
In addition to the thread https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/avatar-upload-issues ,
you could also deactivate all plugins and change to default theme, then re-upload BuddyPress via FTP or cpanel. Then activate BuddyPress plugin and bp-default theme and see if uploading avatar works.
3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? ? Don’t follow? Please explain… (blogs are in format *.domain.com/blogs/)
What that means is did you activate BuddyPress in blog_id_1 (the main blog) or in a sub-blog? If you activated BP in sub-blog, did you define it in wp-config.php?
define ( 'BP_ROOT_BLOG', $blog_id );$blog_id = just the number
Hi gian-ava . Try this assuming your active link is .active
<li<?php if ( bp_is_front_page() ) : ?> class="active"<?php endif; ?>>
<a href="<?php echo site_url() ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?></a>
</li>In reply to: Add links into menuThanks for the correction, Modemlooper
alternatively, one could use
<?php if ( is_user_logged_in() ) : ?>
<li><?php bp_loggedinuser_link() ?></li>
<?php endif; ?>which was what I was thinking of in the first place
In reply to: Add links into menuHi ant60 – just to clarify, do you mean you want logged-in user’s link to his/her profile page appear in your navigation menu? If so, you can add this code
`<?php if ( is_user_logged_in() ) : ?>
<li><a href=”<?php echo bp_loggedin_user_domain() ?>”></li>
<?php endif; ?>`
to your theme’s header.php file within
<ul id="nav">
<li<?php if ( bp_is_front_page() ) : ?> class="selected"<?php endif; ?>>
<a href="<?php echo site_url() ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?></a>
</li>
<?php wp_list_pages( 'title_li=&depth=1&exclude=' . bp_dtheme_page_on_front() ); ?>
<?php do_action( 'bp_nav_items' ); ?>
</ul><!-- #nav -->@jivany – yup

@Modemlooper – as stwc posted above, he wanted a front page other than c) A WordPress Page
Should one want to continue in that vein (via Settings > Reading > static home page), instead of creating the special template file home.php, he can:
1. Create a Page template, e.g. page-home.php and paste 2.a. or 2.b. within and upload to server.
2. Create a page called Home using the page template and publish.
3. Go to Settings > Reading > Static home page and choose Home.
4. Delete the link (forums or blogs or groups) from header.php navigation div to avoid duplication
In reply to: Dealing with COMMENT spam – help!Akismet, WP-SpamFree Anti-Spam, WP Hashcash, search for other anti-spam threads in thisforum
No worries, I should have been clearer. You create a new file called home.php and insert the codes from 2.a. or 2.b and save that file in your bp-default child theme folder in hard drive and upload to server to your bp-default child theme folder there..
Very simple way – assuming you’re using a child theme of bp-default
1. create and add home.php
2.a. paste either of following in home.php and upload to server
– forums directory on front page
<?php locate_template( array( ‘forums/index.php’ ), true ); ?>
– groups directory on front page
<?php locate_template( array( ‘groups/index.php’ ), true ); ?>
– blogs directory on front page
<?php locate_template( array( ‘blogs/index.php’ ), true ); ?>
OR
2. b. paste required code in home.php and upload to server –
– forums directory on front page – copy from here
– groups directory on front page – copy from here
– blogs directory on front page – copy from here
3. Delete the link (forums or blogs or groups) from header.php navigation div to avoid duplication
In reply to: exclude admin in activitystreamThank you for pointing that out 3sixty. I use my Site Admin account to do all backend stuff. I use my Admin account to socialize
In reply to: exclude admin in activitystreamBrajesh code for “Stealth Mode for Admins” also works for me BP 1.2.3/WPMU 2.9.2.
Just add to bp-custom.php
add_action("plugins_loaded","bpdev_init_sm_mode");
function bpdev_init_sm_mode(){
if(is_site_admin())
remove_action("wp_head","bp_core_record_activity");//id SM is on, remove the record activity hook
}In reply to: Cincopa photo plugin is not a BP media componentI’m not aware of any precedent in plugins claiming to be BuddyPress compatible which aren’t
Mingle, a social networking WP plugin is one I’ve seen listed once a while in https://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/ when the plugin get’s updated. It doesn’t even claim to be BP compatible, it’s just tagged as buddypress.
+1
In reply to: Admin Bar not showingDo you have wp_footer in your theme’s footer.php ?
In reply to: Have you seen a Forum widget?I have completed BuddyPress Multi-User. This will allow you to install BuddyPress only once and allow numerous and distinct BP communities within one WPMU installation. Only $500 per installation of BPMU with six months support for a limited time. I reserve the right to refuse to sell BPMU plugin at my discretion.
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.2 Child themejpittssr, you’r using the “Darwin (BuddyPress BuddyPack) Child Theme”. The Cosmic Buddy Child theme which has left and right sidebars is here
In reply to: custom-header and avatar issuegood for you. for future reference, others had different avatar issues and shared their solutions here -https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/avatar-upload-issues
In reply to: Theme template files not being loadedbp-default child themes usually render something like below in Appearance > Themes
The template files are located in /themes/MyChildTheme. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/MyChildTheme. MyChildTheme uses templates from BuddyPress Default. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.

In reply to: Where is the login/logout widget code??You mean the sidebar.php of bp-default theme

In reply to: Groups in blogsBuddyPress stand-alone per blog/subdomain is not possible at this time. BuddyPress roadmap https://buddypress.org/about/roadmap/ does not show that possibility in near future.
Good one Xevo. For external bbpress in one install, I use https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-latest-discussion/ with template tags you could use for home page and/or sidebar. Works well also with another install with internal bbpress enabled via BuddyPress.
In reply to: how to have blogs?@Andrea_R – very nice draft of the multisite process in WP 3.0, cheers
In reply to: Yahoo Connect?One answer re popularity of Yahoo! email addresses would be that Yahoo email addresses were required to set up free websites in their now defunct Yahoo! Geocity sites (RIP Oct. 2009) and millions of free Yahoo!Groups users and members. There are groups set up in the 90’s which are still active today.
Yahoo!Groups * Members Only * Messages * Post * Files * Photos * Links * Database * Polls
* Calendar * Promote * Groups Labs (Beta) … including email notifications from group which members can reply to from email.
