In reply to: [Resolved] Registration/Activation Broken
@uncle-jimmy Glad you resolved your issue and thank you for posting your solution. You are indeed fortunate that copying over the page.php file from the BP Default theme into your gantry theme folder replacing your theme’s page.php file would work in this case 🙂 I assume that your other non-BP Pages are working as well?
As to forum assistance – please be aware that we are all volunteers living in different time zones. We do try to help as many as we possibly can. Cheers.
In reply to: Can't change overall font in rtl default theme@cupid4 site url?
In reply to: Changing Single Group Page Layout@ericreynolds007 the single group’s home.php documents clearly which template file goes with which element of the component https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.8/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/groups/single/home.php
In reply to: Changing themes@pssawhney you could post at http://jpbs.wordpress.net/ if you have the budget to hire a developer.
If you have no budget but would have to create the site all by youself, then post at the bbPress.org forums, in the WordPress.org forums and here of course. Do post specific questions per topic i.e., do not cram all your issues in one topic. That way, those who know how to resolve certain issues would respond to your topic and help out. There’s no guarantee that all your questions will be answered but at least you’re steps closer to where you want to go.
Is there some default CSS i can get anywhere just to style up my community in a default way as i’ve no styles currently set in my theme for BuddyPress?
Strange. BP Theme Compatibility enqueues buddypress.css and buddypress.js – can you check in source code if you can see reference to both? What theme are you using?
In reply to: BP Groups and Forumsdo I have to configure a wildcard for my websites
You only need to configure wildcard if you created a network (multisite) with subdomain structure/mode e.g. http://community.example.com . Looking at your example above with subsite example.com/community in subdirectory mode, so no.
You don’t want both http://www.example.com and http://example.com to both be accessible. Why? Because Google will penalize you for duplicate content ironically from your own site. You need to decide whether you want www or no-wwww. Check what’s in the Site Address of your Settings > General, it should be the same as your WordPress Address, either both have www or both have no www.
Deactivate BuddyPress. You have to resolve the URL issue before you activate BuddyPress again. If you need assistance with this matter, please go to https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite
In reply to: Missing Directories@brandonecarr in previous BP versions, all components were activated by default. Starting BP 1.7 onwards, the only active components by default when you activate BuddyPress are Members (with Extended Profiles) and Activity Streams.
Go to Settings > BuddyPress > Components and activate the other components you want in your installation.
In reply to: Changing themes@pssawhney ideally one should be able to change themes without any major issues. That’s why themes in the WordPress Theme Repository must not include shortcodes nor custom post types, etc. And it looks like Envato’s Themeforest is going to require that for incoming premium themes http://support.envato.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/472
If your Huddle theme has shortcodes and built in custom post types like portfolios for example, then yes you would lose the styles for those shortcodes and the portfolio will not be showing up in your new theme. Other than that, BuddyPress data are stored in database so assuming you have an updated WordPress theme which does not have a proprietary templating system, you should be good to go.
Recommend that you set up your own development site which mirrors your live/production site so you can test themes/plugins in development site before installing/activating in production site.
In reply to: Weird theme integration@hugodisasters Not familiar with the theme you’re using but based on the image alone, looks like buddypress.css and buddypress.js which are enqueued by the plugin are missing. I suggest checking in your premium theme’s forums for similar issues or try reuploading BuddyPress plugin folder manually (FTP,etc).
In reply to: Page title and CSS issues@brunodavid some premium WP themes have proprietary templating systems which prevent BP automagically inserting BP component parts into the_title and the_content of the theme’s page.php.
We don’t have access to the premium theme, but what has worked with others copying your theme’s page.php file and save it as buddypress.php then open up buddypress.php and change theme’s original template tags and HTML structure into the_title and the_content in the appropriate places. for more info https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/theme-development/a-quick-look-at-1-7-theme-compatibility/

In reply to: How to make my theme work with buddypress 1.8re #3 – that’s only relevant if you go to second link I posted above – used only when you want the different BuddyPress components to have different layouts.
As I pointed above, use first link where you only have to create one file, buddypress.php and your theme developer would be the one who could assist you there as they know their premium themes inside and out.
In reply to: [Resolved] jQuery Easing Plugin ErrorBecauser WordPress 3.5.2 is still on jQuery 1.8.3 https://core.svn.wordpress.org/tags/3.5.2/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js
In reply to: How to make my theme work with buddypress 1.8Am I supposed to create a child theme?
@zerosit Since that is a premium theme, I have no idea whether you could set up a child theme with it. There are themes which are not set up properly for child themes. You should contact theme developer about that.
I gave you two links above. If you want to have the same layout for all BuddyPress pages in your site (easiest route), read the first link. Copy the source code of your theme’s page.php file and paste it to a new file, buddypress.php then make sure that the template tags the_content and the_title are in that buddypress.php file. Then upload that file in your theme’s folder in server.
If your modifications do not work, you should ask the theme developer for assistance in revising the proprietary code so BuddyPress pages will be rendered in your site using buddypress.php
In reply to: BP Groups and Forums@faramarz let’s start at the beginning, WP/BP versions? Is this a new installation or did you upgrade from previous BP/WP versions? Where are you hosted?
– Did you follow the steps at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ?
– Try basic troubleshooting procedures like changing to Twenty Twelve theme and deactivating plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress and let me know what happens.
The same setting works just fine on my local XAMPP but it doesn’t work on production server.
How did you install WordPress in production server – via webhost’s one-click install or did you install it manually e.g. FTP? If via webhost’s one-click install then you could encounter some hiccups in your production site see https://codex.buddypress.org/user/before-installing/#system-and-server-requirements
In reply to: Activity Streams in Page and Groups@rayela open up your own text editor – NotePad on PC or TextMate on Mac.
– File > New
– Add the content per what I posted above
– File > Save As – bp-custom.php (note select All Files in dropdown)
– Upload bp-custom.php via FTP/cpanel to where I noted it aboveIn reply to: [Resolved] Title doesn't show well@jianzhi you’re welcome. Happy BuddyPress-ing 🙂
I log in to my admin area I see this message “Go Daddy Quick Setup ™
More than 5 years since I used GoDaddy, when you say admin area, are you referring to the GoDaddy admin area or your WP install’s admin area? If in WP install admin area, then there’s an issue. Otherwise, let’s move on.
I am just trying to fix some issues with it before I launch
I don’t know what aspect of your site was developed by the person you hired.
– Note that your avatar at http://www.techknowledgic.com/members/techknowledgic/ is showing up humongous in Chrome.
– And the avatar under freshness in Forums index page is showing too big.
– Why is #.Ue8yX43rw80 appended to your forums slug when I go http://www.techknowledgic.com/forums/ ? strange.
– Let’s test. Create a new Page named Discussions and place the forums shortcode there. Go to Settings > Forums and change archive slug to discussions. Then go to technowldgic.com/discussions/ and check out your forumsGoing back to logging in. I added the bbPress login widget to the sidebar of Twenty Twelve theme and it’s working fine even with BuddyPress activated. What are you using for your users to log in?
In reply to: Theme compatibility issue@robsimm hi there. You mentioned that you used BP template pack plugin previously. I hope you followed instructions to back up your theme folder with the BP folders which includes revised BP template files. Open one of those template files e.g. /groups/index.php, copy source code and post to pastebin.com. Post the link to the generated pastebin.com page so I can take a look at what worked for you before.
In reply to: Activity Streams in Page and Groups@rayela You create a file bp-custom.php and include the code there – make sure there’s no line or space above or beside opening <?
Then you upload that file from computer into your server wp-content/plugins/ folder via FTP or cpanel
In reply to: How to make my theme work with buddypress 1.8Change to Twenty Twelve and check if you can see the BP pages. If so, then the issue is with your theme (probably has proprietary templating system) and you’d have to tweak/create files for BP Compatibility. check out:
– https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/theme-development/template-hierarchy/@techknowledgic re your #3 answer – do you mean that even you cannot log in or that only users cannot log in? If you deactivate bbPress, can you/users log in or register?
Going back to basics. Did you by any chance create your WordPress installation via webhost’s script i.e., via GoDaddy WP one-click install? If so, that’s not going to work with BuddyPress, see https://codex.buddypress.org/user/before-installing/
In reply to: [Resolved] Title doesn't show well@jianzhi Manual edit at this time 🙂
Edit your first post, add [Resolved] to front of title. For your own forums, you can install a cool plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddy-bbpress-support-topic/In reply to: Issue After Install@jarth3000 BP 1.8 is compatible with WordPress 3.5.2. Your WP and BP versions? – If you change to Twenty Twelve theme, are errors cleared?
In reply to: [Resolved] Title doesn't show wellYou’re welcome. Marking this issue as resolved.
For bbPress issue, you’d want to search/google for WP SEO with Custom Post Types
