    @David you might be better off doing a manual entry fix for recurring events if bp-events doesn’t have them as you run greater risk of losing all your past events in a switch in the future

    UPDATE-IMPORTANT!

    Great News! Heard back from Erwin re bp-events and he authorized me to post an update (quoted)

    I am working with Dave Aubin to make bp-events work with 1.2,
    including the new templates. That is just days away (I hope), then
    I turn the code over to Sven who has been working on integrating the
    excellent jQuery plugin FullCalendar (and has the code ready to go)
    once I hand over the bp-events 1.2 code.

    I tell you, working with the new template system without any
    documentation has been quite the chore as I am sure you know as well.

    Once that is all working I will release a preliminary version
    and work on some additional features/widgets.

    So, I hope bp-events 1.2 comes out within a month of the
    official bp 1.2 came out, so in all, not too bad!

    BP 1.2 was released on Feb 16th so I think it’s safe to ball-park a working copy around mid march, by his estimation. Suffice to say I am fired up.

    I have written Erwin directly to assess. I’ll update everyone ASAP.

    @Marius I’d contribute $$ to your effort. While I agree with you that events and groups have a deep relationship (most events will likely be tied to groups in one way or another) I also think it’s important for people to have personally created events that are tied to no groups. For example, using our Alumni model -> you might have a “reunion” type event as part of a ‘Class Year” group and you might have a member create their own personal ‘Poker Night’ event for alumni friends.

    BP Events seems to me to also remain a viable name

    stwc – with you on both counts. I can vouch that it IS actually good enough to fork. It needs a few 1.2 things corrected and Geo maps added back in and it’s good to go. Now, who to do thi… :-) I am out of bandwidth

    Of course, it might not be a bad thing…it allows people to give shout outs to the less formal things (updates) without having to join every group they want to just say something in. It would be good for a site like our alumni site…but might not work with others

    Well, it’s an interesting point. Non-members cannot post replies to forums but they can reply to updates. To my mind, they should not be unless they are auto joined (as with forums) Thoughs?

    I’m so with you, David. What say you and I fund someone to build it in 4 weeks? I mean, I’d rather not go the WP plugin route because I’ll end up with a bunch of events created by users with marginal functionality (no comments, etc) (maybe I’m wornf and need to explore further) But it’s a critical need on my site.

    Game?

    I do not use the plugin but you should know that the wire no longer exists in 1.2. It has been rolled into Status Updates

    @modemlooper You’ll need to ask Andy for hook into bp_insert_activity_meta() in bp-activity-templatetags.php so you can re-write the function

    expanding on @peter’s view. My personal objective is merely to give a more deliberate, extensive posting mechanism to Groups. Forums are great but they are for raising and issues and starting a discussion. Sort of a quicker, more crude method when compared to a full length blog-type post (in fact, I am tiring of the over-use of the word ‘blog’ here are my users don’t need that term confusing everything)

    So all group members, according to their admin set permissions, will be able to do rich postings in the group (keeping things topically relevant) Group members will be able to comment, etc.

    To that end, front-end posting will be a big boon as most members will appreciate the simplicity and non-confusing interface. I plan on making it yet antother template view within the group structure…as if you never left.

    Finally, I will make use of either categories and/or tags to allow grouop members to browse and find postings that are important to them.

    Keep up the good work, this is a “most excellent start, coder dude” (paraphrasing Bill & Ted!!)

    @mari Excellent fix. All is working as expected now. All I had to do was disable then re-enable the blogs I did previously and they reset. Looks like individual post pages are set at

    domain.com/group-blog-slug/post-uri

    Is it possible to have them remina directed as the blog itself at

    domain.com/groups/group-slug/blog/post-sulg?

    I am trying to keep group members inside the group page itself, wether they are looking at a list of posts or single post. (Admittedly, I have not explored how you’ve done this. I know you can’t get around the subdir blog setup in this case. fyi, I have the new redirect option un-selected for this very reason.

    additionally, the About and Blog buttons that show up on the Group Blog page point to

    domain.com/about and domain.com/blog

    is that on purpose? What i the intention of having a button that reads ‘Blog’ on the Group Blog page?

    @mikepratt

    @marius I understand, just know that users/admins will think that’s where there blog url is going to be and might panic

    I can echo Avi’s report as well. I created 3 blogs with 2 diff users (on my dev site, fear not) and the blog pulls in my main site’s posts…oddly at the address i mentioned above eg domain.com/groups/group-name/blog. I suppose the first question would be, what happened to the blog naming rules if /blog is used for the blog name (I’d prefer /blog btw, my main blog lives at domain.com/blog)

    This most likely has to do with the option Andy gave to have the main blog or activity stream on the Home page. We then had to create a page (I named ‘blog’) and then set the Readings Settings Post page to ‘Blog’

    Hope that helps

    Marius – small mistake: on the create a blog screen, you give the example blog URL (if create your own is chosen) as domain.com/groupblogname whereas it really is domain.com/groups/groupname/blog. For a second there, I thought that would be the address of the blog. Good thing it’s just text. :-)

    mad props, Marius. I will put it through it’s paces, gladly

    update to make it more generic (change your theme image path as nec):

    function my_new_mysteryman () {
    return get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/_inc
    /images/my-new-mystery-man.jpg' ;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_core_mysteryman_src' , 'my_new_mysteryman', 1, 7 );

    but @Andy, I hate reading the instructions ;-)

    @21cdb you clearly put a lot of thought and effort into your ideas. bravo. on this one, I am slightly confused though. Aside from the absense of syncing of the stream and forums (forthcoming according to Andy) What do you mean forums are used less and less? To my mind, they are still an awesome way to have discussions remain anchored contextually to the group to which they originate & belong. (indeed it is a pain to have to send a user back to the forum to reply but I view that as a temp setback)

    I am also confused by the forums are mor bbPress than BP. I thnk the default styling alone removes the similarities. When Adny syncs them, does this accomplish your goal? (I like the ‘post in’ drop down btw)

    @Dwenaus I was thinking of a Group Categorization plugin to allow me to sgment the directory and showcase groups better but this might very well fit the bill. Are group tags exposed via functions inyour plugin so we can shape a directory listing (or even avail in a variable eg bp_get_group_tag() ?

    Looks nice, James. Curious why you chose 1.13 instead of v1.2?

    @Bbrian017 I feel for you, ma. I am scratching my head. On my prod site, in over 18 months (since pre-BP alpah no less) I have had maybe 9 or 10 spam accounts. While I have a bit more of an involved signup process (just a bunch of addl required fields) I don’t have anything else. Blog creation IS disabled, so maybe that help? Not sure.

    Ieven had sCaptcha going for awhile btu took it down as folks had so much trouble reading the stupid characters.

    Still thinking of what’s up in your case. Hang in there.

    @andystaple when Pods becomes wordpress friendly it will be an awesome choice to use as your Beer data-type manager.

    Does MyReviewPlugin actually make use of BP XProfile data and hook into the activity stream? eg. [Andy Staple] reviewed [Pete’s Wicked Ale] in [Microbews Group] for example?

    @sakthig stay tuned, @MrMaz is currently in bp-links group integration mode. Awesomeness awaits. As I see it, bp-links is better suited as an archival mecahism for many sites and oEmbed has an edge on on-the-fly action

    @finni3 I must agree with @D Cartwright and @Michael here. CInsider the los of utility if your notifications menu all of a suden gives word of every forum posting of every topic you were involved in? Imagine if you posted once and then left for awhile and saw that you had 214 forum replies? What would you do with that?

    In general, I think it’s safe to keep screen notifications to those items that post heads ups infrequently but when they do , it’s very important (hence the real need for the heads up) ex a Private Message, Friend Request. Another criterion would be the kind of action required (in the case of a forum reply, the only required action is to read it (not critical, obviously)
