    @Peter Apologies if I missed that subtlety earlier, but given that bp-groupbog is not even updated for 1.2 yet, are you spending all this effort integrating P2 into a 1.1.3 Groups home page?

    no need to wait bp-gallery is at RC1 right now over at http://buddydev.com (I have no skin in this game, btw)

    Noel,

    I def agree with p 2 of your reply but as for p1 –

    I think there might be something you’re missing. The reason P2 has allure for BP admins is that it might easily fill a temp hole left in a very common use case of BP -> letting users post blog posts whilst avoiding the traditional back-end, non themed traditional WP post mechanism. In that regard BP does not give you what P2 does. Now, of course, there are other solutions like QuickPress and posthaste but, to my mind, P2 is a very clever way to bridge the gap until front end blogging appears in BP.

    @Peter Don’t forget the old saying about more flies with honey :-)

    Sorry for the delay in rsponding. Damn job got it the way!

    Looking at the bp-widget theme, he only uses style.css. so adding the code to style.css in the bp-widget folder ought to do the trick.

    @modemlooper you could save an expensive import call by jsut importing bp-default/style.css instead

    @finni3 Until Andy trumps all of our work and goes deep core, Boone’s & D Cartwright’s excellent merged plugin will fit your needs https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-activity-stream-subscription/

    @stefrusso add this to your style sheet

    form#groups-directory-form .button {
    display: none;
    }

    Let’s move on to solving your problem, shall we? Everyone here is trying to help you. We are not misreading your posts (as evidenced by jjj’s reply – he’s part of “we”) We have given you things to look at but continue to have to ask questions to nail down your specific case. The bandaid solutions are not what we’re after but we are trying to figure out what combinations of settings might be tripping this behavior on your install. Yes, asking all these questions is a part of “helping” It’s not merely the eureka solution you expect (which also counts as “helping”)

    Are you experiencing this on a clean 1.2, wpmu 2.9.1 (if not, that’s a suggestion to test) install with no plugins (esp the email related ones out there?) Are you experiencing it with blog creation on? off? Is this a sub-directory or sub-domain install? After this we might be able to reproduce. But if we can’t, then we have to continue to ask questions to see what it is you might have set differently.

    Oh, and I promise to work on my self-image projection issues. :-)

    I can report that the released-last-nite bp-gallery rc1 has made massive strides and is in need of only a few mods to be totally worth, imho, of release. Still a lot of styling tweaks but that’s on me, not Brajesh so much.

    Now we have MrMaz (Marshall) handling externally hosted media/content and Brajesh taking care of locally stored user content. We are all set.

    RC1 is here -> http://buddydev.com/forums/topic/download-bp-gallery-rc1-here

    Thi si ugly, but until an elegant solution is presented you can just change teh nav element for the Create button to display: none; and 99.99% of your users will have no clue that it’s even possible. For those that sneak thru in the meantime, you can just delete the bog. Don’t worry, a solution is forthcoming.

    @jfigura being a dick is probably not going to get you all the help you need and we are all attempting to give. DJPaul is fond of playiing moderator :-)

    There are only 2 people with commit autorization and if you think @apeatling and @jjj are the only ones contributing and helping people, you are sorely mistaken.

    I just re-read all of your posts and nowhere did you mention info like @hnla did above…for example, everything works well in the no blog creation scenario but breaks when blogs are allowed to be created. Now we have something to help us try and re-create the problem. You said “IF” it does. We have repeatedly told you that it is NOT supposed to (nor has it in any of my installs) Now, I believe you when you state that it’s happening to you. So we’re trying to get your install to the point where you DON’T get the email from WP with the password. Given the overwhelming majority of users do not get the email, wouldn’t it be easier to get to the root of your problem, than to create a hack for just your case? Odds are you have a setting wrong or something we are not aware of (either that or there’s a massive bug and the rest of us are just plain lucky we don’t get the confusing email!)

    If you’d rather, we can stop pouring over the code base to see what might be causing your issue (since we’re not on the dev team and all)

    I think you are making more work for yourself than necesary. Andy has included specific classes in the Body class (as david alluded to) and you can specify styling for each page class that way, you cna also double up classes where you want consistency and no php will be required.

    @jfigura While you don’t seem to be the only one experiencing this, you are in the minority. We’ll try and help you. Can you point me to your site and let me see what’s up? I have done dozens of BP installs and not once experienced this issue. I am sure it’s just something gone wrong in installation.

    There’s plenty of room for debate on whether BP should send an email reaffirming the password you just chose but that’s different from us getting your current install to work as advertised. Let’s keep the discussions separate.

    to take it a step further – Out of the box assignment of custom member types with corresponding profile meta data (fields, etc0 would be quite handy as many people have niches developed and would like to contour data and experiences around these niches

    @jfigura I am happy to help figure out your problem but yo u have not given us enough information. The fact that this occur for you in v1.1.3 obviously points to the fact that you have had issues independent of v1.2. What version of WPMU? Are you setting the password during registration AND receiving an email with a DIFFERENT password? Are you expecting to receive an email with a password (if so, why? given that’s not how BP works – in spite of @Peter’s incessant protests) Does anyone have passwords that work? Did they receive them in an email or are they using the one they set on registration? These questions should help us figure out this dilemma.

    @Symm2112 I know but he gave the impression that he had not checked out his plugin in 1.2 and wanted everyone to put it thru it’s paces in the new version and tell him what to fix, which ought to be his responsibility as plugin author

    @mikepratt

    Participant

    @jfigura I agree. That would be maddening in addition to confusing! The point we’re trying to make is that BP lets you set your password. That’s it. No email. Just login after you activate. When WMU sets the password, you have to wait and hope it wasn’t caught in spam and all the other associated issues. If you are receiving the email then something isn’t working correctly for you.

    My own opinion is this way is much better (what are the chances you immediately forget the password you chose?) I hate it when I get generated passwords as I then have to go in and change them all over again.

    @Dfa327 Have you tested the chat plugin you wrote on 1.2 by chance?

    @mikepratt

    Participant

    @modemlooper but if you do not choose, the default is MyProfile, not a forum. Where is the risk of posting in the wrong forum?

    @mikepratt

    Participant

    like DJPaul said, BP does NOT send you a password via email

    @mikepratt

    Participant

    Please correct me if I’m wrong, but that email is no longer sent by BP is it? You set your own password in the sign up process and BP no longer emails passwords (there has been a few threads arguing with Andy over the merits of this but that’s a diff topic)

    Which certainly means it’s WPMU sending the email. Question is why, I guess.

    @r-a-y So are you talking about Group chats avail to anyone who is a member of the group..as opposed to just your “friends” ?

    Agree that Arrowchat looks more promising than Bowob. #fail if they keep my data
