In reply to: Teach Brendan How to Drive Buddypress!
Buddypress is only a WP plugin. So if you know how to install wordpress and manage plugins you know how to install Buddypress. In your WP admin search buddypress in the new plugins dialog, install it. Then go into your themes and choose the buddpress theme. Thats it. Buddypress must have a buddypress theme. Click extend above and then themes for some theme options.

Well, there was another thread complaining about the clutterness of this BP sites design. I think by default BP gives you the kitchen sink and you need to develop your site into a fork if you users are looking for a fork. I personally feel like a dog chasing my tail with the default BP install. Content over here looks the same as over there scenario. Mainly it’s the forums / Activity problem. You post in a forum yet is shows up in the activity stream confuses people. I think it’s best to strip out sitewide activity stream as well as the groups activity stream. Force users to post content in forums and use their own profile activity stream to post a message to a specific user.
In reply to: Extra Page’s in BuddyPressI want to add that the method above is really for creating plugins or multipaged slugs. Telling BP that a folder is a slug. So you can add a folder named whatever you want that slug to be and then put files in this folder.
In reply to: Extra Page’s in BuddyPressYou don’t need any of that code above. You can easily create a page using WP page templates.
I’ve said this before. The site wide activity stream is almost useless. Too much happens to really follow it properly. I’ve pretty much removed it from my BP sites and focus on profiles with forum activity.
In reply to: Extra Page’s in BuddyPressWhat are you trying to accomplish? You can create page templates and hard code a page.
In reply to: Default 3 Column ThemeThe default size is fluid so there really is no default width. I’ve chosen a width that is considered optimal for various browsers. You can always change the CSS yourself and make it wider.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and Discussion@thekmen our disagreement is exactly the reason it should be a plugin. So people have a choice.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and Discussion@thekmen I do not want this in core or any other media plugin. Who wants to be stuck with same capabilities?
I’ve already looked it over. What my statement above is saying is that BuddiPhone is not a “mobile” theme for for a Buddypress network in the general sense. It’s more like an application. You’ll understand more when I get a preview up.
WPTouch is for a blog / comment system only. It is not a mobile theme for a social network or a forum. BuddiPhone is not really a mobile version of a site per se but a theme that mimics a native iPhone application. Think Facebook iPhone app compared to the actual Facebook website. It doesn’t include everything, it includes what you need in a streamlined way to get the important content.
I’ve had to start from scratch a few times and rethink the navigation because the current Buddypress workflow doesn’t work on a mobile at all. It’s just too complex for a small screen. So I’ve had to break it apart and write “screens” that give you an easy to read and navigable system.
When you go to a users profile and hit the followers link a lone “a” shows in the upper left hand corner.

In reply to: Creating sub social network / ningsIf you use WPMU and let people create a blog you can let them activate BP on their created blog.

In reply to: Create a new page and remove the tab on the menuIn reply to: Profile Settings Page HTML Does Not MatchDurr, nevermind it’s the plugins.php file. I was looking for a settings.php anyways this page is missing the activity-content div.
In reply to: Default 3 Column ThemeNo clue, test site is basic BP with this exact theme as a child.
In reply to: Seo for Buddypress 1.0 beta@guigoz I noticed that too This plugin is great but it’s missing the option that the normal WP seo plugin has to edit title inside the wordpress page set up for each individual page.
