posted a ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4877
In reply to: BP Block Member uber-betawhy all the spaghetti? This is a simple plugin to put together, just do a redirect if a user is blocked. Save array of user ids and when visiting a profile it all unless logged in user id finds a match in array
There is also bp_is_activity_component()
You can do responsive but it’s not so easy with content such as profiles and forums. Because of social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. users are expecting something dedicated and streamlined.
bp_is_page(‘activity’)
there are free and paid options that work well
You guys are missing the point. Facebook is it’s own service and thus created its own functionality. You can create your own media functionality. It should be up to site owners to decide what that is.
make sure its in functions.php if you place code elsewhere the the link to overriden_template has to be changed
the formatting on here sucks when you paste code so that might be issue if you cut and paste, i use that exact code on modemlooper.me so I know it works. Are you trying to make a buddypress template full width? might need to adjust code
In reply to: What makes a WP user a BP memberWhen you use BuddyPress you use a special registration form.
buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.php
you can copy this file into your theme to create a custom registration form.
your-theme/registration/register.php
As for logging in, if you added a new user from the WP admin all the user has to do is login once and then they show in the members list. Are you just wanting to force them to show in the members list?
This plugin will allow you to auto activate users https://github.com/boonebgorges/unconfirmed
In reply to: Could anyone fix this code to count user posts?These types of posts get replies if someone feels they want to help. They are not problems with BuddyPress core but customizations.
Your code example uses the activities loop which is not best way to find forum topic counts. Because you want to specify a date range you might have to query the db directly. Look at this function that returns total topic count for a user

In reply to: What makes a WP user a BP memberMembers do not show in the members list until they login the first time. No need to add to xprofile table. Any WP user is a BP user.
I use this on my site to show a different single.php. I have a folder mobile in my theme folder with my mobile templates. I copied single.php, removed the get_sidebar and then added css when on mobile to style it better. This code works in functions.php.
`function mobile_filter_wp_template( $template ) {
$overridden_template = dirname( __FILE__ ) . ‘/mobile/mobile-single.php’ ;
if ( is_single() && wp_is_mobile() ) {
return load_template( $overridden_template );
} else {
return $template;
}
}
add_filter( ‘template_include’, ‘mobile_filter_wp_template’, 10, 2 );`
`function mobile_style() {
if ( is_single() && wp_is_mobile() ) {
echo ”
<style>
body {
width: 100%;
}
</style>”;
}
}
add_action(‘wp_head’, ‘mobile_style’);`
Use WP is_page to set conditions to specific pages https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_page
you can use my fork of bp album it works on 1.7 https://github.com/modemlooper/BuddyPics
In reply to: Need Help With User-Customized Post Feed In Profile…Nothing like this exists but could be developed.
In reply to: [Resolved] One works, one doesn't – BuddyPressdid you copy over the files or create the live one from fresh install?
In reply to: How to make a simple banner ads pluginUse add_action to include your banner ad. If you look through template files you will find do_action code, these are placed there so you can hook code to.
This example will place an image with a link around it above the activity stream.
`function my_banner_ads_plugin() {
echo ‘<a href=”url”><img src=”path-to-image”></a>’;
}
add_action( ‘bp_before_directory_activity_content’, ‘my_banner_ads_plugin’ );`
In reply to: Vote here for BP photo (pic, media) solutionI am closing this topic as it will incite a flame war. It has already been a topic of discussion many times and the conclusion is always it should be a plugin.
There are a few solutions out there that are free. If they do not work as you like, you can fork it and fix the things you dislike or hire to have your own solution built.
In reply to: Can I use Buddypress 1.7 beta to bulid a new sitethere are a few bugs, beta 2 is about to get pushed. That should be solid enough to use for site building.
In reply to: Buddypress with Photo Album CapabilitiesIt would be unprofessional to say one media plugin over another is better on BuddyPress.org. If it’s not in core then it’s up to you to obtain the additional components to your site. It’s been great that there have been free offerings for a media plugin but I would sleep better buying a paid plugin that I knew was not going to break.
As for no media plugin working with 1.7, 1.7 hasn’t been released. Beta periods are when plugins get updated.
In reply to: BuddyPress into GasBuddy?Anything is possible if you can code. No off-the-shelf solutions for this. There are a couple location/map plugins.
In reply to: Buddypress with Photo Album CapabilitiesAnything is possible 😉
In reply to: Buddypress with Photo Album CapabilitiesIf I could go back in time and I was Andy Peatling BuddyPress would have less features. I would extend only the user capabilities of WordPress. Create better relational hooks. Allow developers to create anything and let the users of a site interact with this content. You can do this now and BuddyPress gives you status posting and relates activity and users using groups OOTB.
You can extend the activity through meta and the groups have an api to extend it as well. There are a few media plugins but in my opinion they should be using WordPress media capabilities by creating an API to extend the media capabilities to the front end and then let developers create on top of it. This will create more unique opportunities for site creators instead of being stuck with only one core solution.
