    Thanks all. And @hnla, you’re right. I’m sorry — didn’t even think of that!

    Richard, I am looking for this solution, too! That’s how I ended up on this page (doing a search). That would be a great feature. I’m trying to figure out a way to allow our users to promote their (off-site — we’re not hosting any blogs) posts to their profiles.

    This is a great and useful plugin. We’re planning on using it to do a content centered around who invites the most people to the site. One problem I’m having is that rank is only showing on some profile and not others. Any idea of why this would be?
    Examples:
    Not showing on this profile
    http://supportforspecialneeds.com/members/bedwards3447/

    Showing on this profile
    http://supportforspecialneeds.com/members/siobhanwolf/

    (At least that’s how it was at the time I posted this — maybe it’ll spontaneously resolve? Stranger things have happened!)

    I love this plugin — so far no issues on our site!

    Adding that has encouraged several of our members to go back and fill out the “about me” part of their profile. Thank you for creating it!!

    Thanks @techguy. I had that disabled but what I ended up doing was also creating another set of activity files for my groups (groupactivity-loop.php, groupentry.php, grouppost-form.php) to turn off the “have news to share” or whatever the bubble says so that people can’t do announcements on the group page. That’s pushing people to post to the forums instead of posting to the groups. It’s imperfect but for now at least I think I can live with it! (And the imperfections of BuddyPress are NOTHING compared to the sheer beauty and fabulousness of it!!!!)

    Thanks — I was going to try that next but first was having the itx tech support trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with our DNS settings.

    Figured it out!

    It was the bbPress Sitemaps plugin!

    http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/bbpress-sitemaps

    It hasn’t been updated lately and that was the issue. Thank goodness it was something easy! I was reading it as a BuddyPress plugin, which is why I didn’t disable it first. Doh!

    @moominmama

    Nope — didn’t help. But I appreciate the suggestion. It would’ve sucked to disable and then enable 51 forums but then it sucks more not having working forums, eh?

    Moominmama

    @moominmama

    Well, I’ll try that but I’ve got 51 groups and none of the forums work so I sure hope that’s not it! I’ll let you know…

    I’m sorry — I mis-typed. I meant bb-config.php for bbPress.

    Mike, I’m having a similar issue only I upgraded manually. I am backing up my plugins now in preparation to deleting them and then reinstalling one at a time. This has been a mess of an upgrade for me. Just making note here in case it’s a common issue.

    @moominmama

    Oh one more thing! I think my issue before was that I was using a newer version of bbpress on my install. I didn’t realize that until I went back through The Easy Button’s integration instructions:

    http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/04/30/integrating-buddypress-10-wpmu-and-bbpress/

    This time around I used the bbpress he linked to directly and it was the old green interface. The one I used on the last screwy installation was a newer one with an interface much more like the current WordPress version. So that’s something else folks might want to try if they’re having trouble (going back down to an earlier BBPress install.)

    Working site is here: http://www.openadoptionsupport.com

    I was able to import users and groups very easily via PHPMyAdmin so I didn’t really lose anything with the clean reinstallation.

    @moominmama

    Well, the clean install fixed whatever was broken. I’m having some troubles getting forum integration going (it’s not seeing the bbpress files) but I’m not going to start that up here! (I may just wait until bbpress is more stable before moving forward w/integration since I kinda think it’s possible that’s where my problems came from anyway.)

    So to anyone having these kinds of weird ajax-y-ish problems? I recommend a clean install! I’m not going to mark this as resolved since @Rogercoathup may still want to be working on it — I’ll let him click the switch.

    Thanks for your help, Jeff!

    @moominmama

    @jeff Still no go. I’m going to back up my database and do a clean install again. I’m going to stop at the forums addition and double-check everything and I’ll let you all know. I think it might be the only answer so I’m just waiting ’til I have time to do it. :)

    I’m not getting the error with my firebug looking at that page but the ajax is just spinning for me, too.

    (I’m having a similar problem — different error and ajax doesn’t even spin.)

    It sounds like you’re having an issue that other people have had. Does any of this look like it might relate to what’s going on for you?

    Hi Pinastro! I’m a newbie here but I do know that SimpleScripts installations tend to be junkie and end up with 404 errors. It’s not that hard to install by hand — truly. Just take the instructions to install WordPress-MU, then BuddyPress, then BBPress bit by bit and it’ll be fine.

    (Are you on Bluehost? I am and so I did first install with SimpleScripts and got the same errors so backed up, dropped the database tables and started over again.)

    Good luck!

    Granted my site is acting messy right now but I don’t think this is related to the plugin.

    I use the FV Community News plugin to solicit community FAQs but instead of pushing questions to a “submitted news” page, I pull then questions and post them in a blog and then members post answers as comments. (I do this because the FAQs are supposed to be posted anonymously.) There’s a widget with the plugin, which makes it easy for people to submit their questions.

    You can see it working here:

    http://openadoptionsupport.com/blog

    The plugin is here:

    http://www.frank-verhoeven.com/wordpress-plugin-fv-community-news/

    Hope that helps!

    Nope, removing whitespace doesn’t help.

    Other issues that I’ve caught include the ABC line above members/groups not working.

    And I can no longer post to the forum (I could when I first installed this).

    (sigh)

    I read through the long “Add Friend Not Adding” thread here:

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1315

    since my problems seem similar but didn’t gain any insight.

    I’m hesitant to do another clean install ‘cuz I’m not sure how to do it without losing my members who are creeping back after I accidentally trashed our old WordPress site (not in the same place — this is a totally new installation).

    OK, next action was to install firebug on my firefox. I think this is a javascript issue. I’m getting this error on problem pages:

    jQuery(“div#groups-list-options a”).livequery is not a function

    [Break on this error] function() {

    http://openadoptionsupport.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-groups/js/widget-groups.js?ver=2.7.1

    I’m not sure where to go from here other than to keep googling that error. I can see other people have this w/buddypress but am not sure how to fix it. Anyone have some javascript insight?

    Ok, never mind re., the direct to:

    /home1/openboo2/public_html/blogging/forum/bb-includes/functions.bb-pluggable.php

    I think that’s just people trying to access the dead site. Ok, back to digging in error files!

    Looks like PHP5.

    Here’s something weird. This line?

    /home1/openboo2/public_html/blogging/forum/bb-includes/functions.bb-pluggable.php

    That’s pointing to an old bbpress install that isn’t connected to this install at all. It’s an old defunct site and the wordpress it was connected to is uninstalled. (Dumped the database, deleted the wordpress files.) Any idea how this install got it into its head to point something there? I’m going to go ahead and delete the white space but I have the bbpress for these forums in public_html/forums.

    Thanks for the help! :)

    I’m also on BlueHost and installing manually is as easy as installing with simplescripts. That said, I needed to install and reinstall fifty-million (ok, maybe eight) times to get things working right with forum integration, etc. What worked was breaking it down slowly slowly slowly. First WPMU, then buddypress and finally using these instructions for integrating bbpress:

    http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/04/30/integrating-buddypress-10-wpmu-and-bbpress/

    The reason I had to reinstall so many times is I had trouble with the domains/subdirectories and finally had to change it out manually:

    http://welcome.totheinter.net/2009/05/06/changing-wordpress-mu-from-subdomains-to-subdirectories/

    It’s still buggy — I had some problems when I had to change out domains to get my site showing up in the right place — but I have hope it’s at least mostly working.
