In reply to: Create a Site Forum
It should be quite simple to add to the activity stream if you’re using a deep integrated install (loading WordPress into external bbPress). Because then you’d have access to WP’s (and consequently, BP’s) functions.

I’ve used that tutorial in the past and it has served me well.
The only thing is the tutorial is a little outdated. Omit step 22 (optional) and steps 38 through 41.

Not sure about custom WP roles.
In reply to: Installing BP with existing themeYes, that’s correct.
In reply to: Installing BP with existing theme1) Use the BP Template Pack plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
Please follow all of the steps involved.
2) Probably possible but will get messy trying to get cookies and login info integrated. You could try using WPMU or wait a few months when WP 3.0 is released and when BP is made compatible with WP v3.0.
I still think you’re confusing the internal bbPress version bundled with BP with external bbPress:
Because you want to use an external version of bbPress, you would not configure bbPress through the BuddyPress admin area.
You would install an external version of bbPress and then create your forum categories there.
You also need to theme external bbPress to match your BP install.
Also, you need to create a nav button somewhere on your BP theme so people know where your external forums reside.

Btw, I edited the topic title to be more clear.
In reply to: New Code: show forum posts since last visit1) hook into the get_header action
eg.
add_action('get_header','your_ob_start_call_in_a_function');2) hook into the wp_head action with a high priority
eg.
add_action('wp_head','your_code_in_a_function',999);3) is the only edit you have to make to the template
Did you try logging in with your bp.org username and password on Trac?
In reply to: Buddybar in header doesn’t validateDon’t use the wp_head action.
In your custom template’s header.php, add your own action right underneath [/head]:
eg.
do_action('custom_after_head');Then change:
add_action('wp_head', 'bp_core_admin_bar', 8 );to
add_action('custom_after_head', 'bp_core_admin_bar', 8 );In reply to: BP Groups – Admin leaves or demotes selfAre you using the latest version of BP?
There was a ticket about this:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1753
If this problem still persists, please reopen the ticket.
You can login to Trac with the same login credentials you use here on bp.org.
@birdy43
Try logging into the WP backend. Navigate to “BuddyPress > General Settings”.
Under “Full Name Field Name”, change this from the default “Name” to whatever you want.
You need to create a custom function for outputting your questions and another one to validate your questions.
function my_custom_questions() {
// your questions would go here - would be an input field of some kind
// eg.
echo '<label for="my_question">Please enter something for this new field</label>';
echo '<input type="text" name="my_question" id="my_question" value="" />';
}
add_action('bp_before_registration_submit_buttons', 'my_custom_questions');
function my_custom_validation() {
// here you'd check the submitted input fields, you'd probably do a check to see if the question is blank, if not return an error message
// would be something like this:
global $bp;
// checking if an input field of "my_question" is blank
if ( $_POST['my_question'] == "" ) {
$bp->signup->errors['my_question'] = 'You must type in something for the field "my_question".';
}
}
add_action('bp_signup_validate', 'my_custom_validation');You shouldn’t be editing core files.
BP has a ton of hooks you can use to get your custom questions on the registration page.
You could just hook into the following actions and then your custom questions will appear:
add_action('bp_before_registration_submit_buttons', 'YOUR CUSTOM QUESTIONS');
add_action('bp_signup_validate', 'YOUR VALIDATION ROUTINE');In reply to: Upgrading from RC-1 to RC-2 or 1.0 ReleaseUpgrade to BP 1.0.3:
https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/buddypress.1.0.3.zip
Then follow the rest of the steps.
As always, make a backup of your DB and filesystem before proceeding.
In reply to: oEmbed for BuddyPress plugin – out now!This is working for me.
Can you try deactivating the plugin, deleting the plugin folder and then downloading and activating the latest version.
In reply to: Upgrading from RC-1 to RC-2 or 1.0 ReleaseIn reply to: Mention User without Status UpdateYes, unless you find out a way to pull the previous activity update.
You’re talking about separating your WordPress blog from BuddyPress?
If you’re using WPMU, you can do this:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/
In reply to: Mention User without Status UpdateThe easiest thing is probably to wipe out the status if there’s an @mention.
Use this filter:
bp_get_member_latest_update
And do a check to see if there’s an @mention; if there is, return a blank string, if there isn’t, return the full update.
In reply to: Buddypress gifts componentOnce you’ve done what Bowe has said.
You will need to know how to use SVN or you can use a SVN client.
If you’re using Windows, TortoiseSVN is the most popular SVN program..
Here’s a nice tutorial for Tortoise:
In reply to: Overriding the themes function.php = blank pageYes you can! Just make sure you name your own functions different than the parent theme’s functions.
Wire doesn’t exist in BP 1.2, unless you’re using the backwards compatible plugin or a third-party wire plugin.
Are you talking about the activity stream?

@anointed, didn’t know you were using SWT for the root blog.
In that case, Boone’s got the right idea (as always!).
In reply to: Upgrade, then fresh install, generates error 500Try doing the upgrade manually without SimpleScripts (if you are able to) and see if that fixes your problem.
