In reply to: new version of BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts
Seems a bit strange.
I get the options to rate forum posts no problem and the karma is given to the post. The rating shows up in the forums directory but just not next to the users name.
I have disabled ALL plugins except BP and Rate Forum Posts and it still happens so it can’t be a plugin confliction.I have deleted and reinstalled Rate Forum Posts and that doesn’t help either.
I am running BP 1.2.4.1 and a single install of WP 2.9.2
Can you test with those versions and see if you can replicate it?
I’m not sure about the DB tables. I haven’t changed anything that I am aware of. If you could list the tables I am supposed to have then that would be great? Maybe I am missing some tables?
Thank you so much.
@lee_vhoi_ol You need to go into the ‘General settings’ in your admin panel and tick the box that says ‘membership’ – Anyone Can Register.
That will create the link to registrations.
In reply to: new version of BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts@dwenaus cheers, I’ll take a look at that.
One thing I can no longer see in my forums is a user’s karma rating. Have you changed the layout for this? I can rate posts no problem, see a forum topics rating in the forum directory but I can’t see any karma points on any members profile or next to their names in a forum?
Any ideas why? Could you upload a picture as to where it should be and how it looks in this latest version?
Thanks so much.@chrismackintosh No problem mate, we are just doing some updates in BP 1.2.4.1 as the new release broke the reversal of admin links but when it’s done I’ll send you over the topic.php and templatetags.php files if you like, pre edited.
Paul Gibbs is kindly working on this for me but he’s rushed off his feet. Hoping we’ll have it done by Friday.
For now, take a look at this trac for the gist of it but there are a couple of other tweaks needed.
In reply to: @mentions not workingHey Simon,
Are you mentioning a user in a group forum?Someone can correct me if I am wrong but you won’t receive a notification email or note in the user bar if that is the case. You will only receive an email if someone users your username @mention in a status update that then hits the activity stream.
Click on settings in your BP profile and look at notifications. It will list everything you get an email for. @mentions in forums isn’t one. I imagine if it was your inbox would be full of messages if you participate in a busy forum.
Simply click on the @mentions link in your BP profile when you first login to get upto speed with @mentions.
As I say, I’m sure a mod will correct me if I am wrong but you don’t get an email or notification in each instance when using @mentions.
Hope this helps mate,
Ross
In reply to: Use Forums without Groups?Groups have absolutely revolutionised my site I AM 100% for them.
For people who want just one forum, surely it’s very easy to just make one group for everything. I don’t understand the frustration. Everything is so easy to manage in Groups. Everything is contained wonderfully in one area. Easy to keep tidy, easy to implement and so simple to expand.
My initial reaction to groups was very similar to others. I didn’t see the need. That was until i started using them – then trust me, your outlook changes!
+1 for use with a single WP install.
In reply to: new version of BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts@dwenaus Hi,is there anyway to remove the forum rating column from the forum directory? It’s not that it’s not a great feature but on my site it isn’t appropriate. I have 2000 forum topics where the initial post is the same in each. No one will rate that initial post as it’s just info only so isn’t really appropriate for a rating.
Also, where do I view people’s karma? I can’t see a tally anywhere on a member’s profile.
Thank you
In reply to: How to delete a group?select the group whilst logged in as admin. Go to admin in the group menu. Select ‘Delete Group’ then confirm. Job done!
Hahaha, sorry to ask so many questions, I’m getting in a muddle but after playing with @mentions I think I get it now.
I get an email if someone mentions me in their update, I also get an email if someone replies to one of my updates.
I DON”T get an email though if someone simply @mentions me in a forum post. I can view that in my @mentions but there is no notification.
Is that right and if so can we have a way of receiving a notification if someone mentions us in a forum post. Also I only get emails, it doesn’t appear in the notifications in the toolbar. Is that how it should work also.
Thanks so much
Ross
I can see the @ mentions when i click on the @mentions section in my profile but I don’t get a message in the notifications bar.
Could you @mention me on this site and I’ll see if it pops up on this site. On mine I don’t get one.
Cheers
Ross
Can anyone answer this? Cheers

Are you supposed to get a notification when someone uses an @mention at you in a forum? I don’t get any notifications. Is this normal? I think you should know when someone mentions you in a forum post.
In reply to: Getting rid of all activity before I go liveHey Boone,
I have made over 1500 groups during setup so the activity list is LOOONNNGGG! I had a little play and found that you could safely delete bp activity entries directly from the DB.
I ended up going the whole hog and ticked all the entries in the end and did one BIG delete of over 3000 entries. All went well and the activity on the site is nice and empty, ready for the fun to begin.
So yeah, just wanted to let you know that it is safe to do.
Cheers
Ross
In reply to: Welcome Pack enabled but doesn't seem to workHi Paul,
Just noticed that this plugin and R-A-Y’s ‘BuddyPress Usernames Only’ plugin are incompatible as when the usernames only plugin is actvive NO names show under the Friends Pop down in Welcome pack.Any way to make them compatible?
Thanks
Ross
In reply to: when release of BP 1.2.4Looks like it’s here! What;s the SAFEST way to install it now?
In reply to: Forums in GroupsGood Point! Would be nice to hit the forums straight away! Any way to do this?
In reply to: Report Abuse PluginYes the Summer of code moderation plugin looks superb. Hopefully we’ll get some updates soon.
In reply to: PLUGIN REQUEST: Forum AdsActually I should have explained better as my scenario is a little different. I have reversed my forums so that all the latest posts appear on page one of a topic. The reply box is at the top of the page also. I want to place an add between the first and second post on a page. For me that would be between the latest and the previous reply.
The order of thing might not matter actaully but I would want the add to be between the first and second post on each topic page.
In reply to: PLUGIN REQUEST: Forum AdsCheers Paul, I’ll take a look.
Erich,
I’ve got nearly 2000 and I think that’s why I’m struggling. I’d like nice big numbers in squares ideally running across the top of my forums and groups directories.Hey Paul, I can’t seem to get the borders to work. When I apply them, it seems to automatically add ‘none’ to the css line. Have you managed to get it to work at all?
Cheers Paul, I’ll give it a try. I just really like the numbers in nice squares. Have you seen the page navi navigation?
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-pagenavi/screenshots/I think it would work great here in BP.
Page Navi only works with wordpress and doesn’t alter the standard bP navigation unfortunately. If someone could make it work with BP too then that would be awesome.
@andy any chance of the naviagtion being improved in this way?I have sorted the loading issue but I still have the issue where there is just the hash on the latest post without an edit/ delete option. This is because BP still thinks it is the oldest post, i.e. the topic description which would normally be at the top of the page. Now I have reversed the order of posts it is actually the LATEST post at the top. I need the edit/ delete options on it.
Any ideas?
