@DJPaul @pcwriter thanks for the input guys.
Deleting a member through the WP dashboard most certainly DOESN’T delete any of their BP entries.
Their username is deleted from the member’s list and their avatar etc goes, but from what I see all of their forum posts remain, without a username and a random avatar associated with the posts.
Is this a bug then Paul? Anything I need to do to file it?
I mean, if I deleted a member of my site myself, through the backend, would all of the members content get deleted too, including activity stream items and their forum posts.
I deleted a test account that’s all and all of the test forum posts stayed behind, attributed by a random avatar.
I would expect the behaviour to be that all remnants of that user be deleted with their account but that doesn’t appear to happen.
This would be useful for spammers or users who pose an annoyance to the rest of the community.
Any thoughts?
It’s an S2Member thing, no worries!

Great stuff! I’ve emailed the plugin author to see if it’s something he can add! I’ll keep you posted!
@Aces Nice one! Installed Si Captcha and it works a treat. Is there any way to put a note to users under the CAPTCHA actually what it is and why they have to type in the code?
I know it’s so basic but for some users who haven’t seen them before it’s always nice to have a little message saying ‘Please type the CAPTCHA code into the box above’.
@mercime you legend! Haha, didn’t even know that option existed! I think that should be set by default. Make it so much more straight forward!
Thank you.
In reply to: [Resolved] Speeding up buddypressWhat kind of hosting is everybody using here? I’m just about to launch and expect around 30 concurrent users. I’ve gone for a semi dedicated option but am interested in what others use and where they see slowdown.
Thanks guys! It seems like a minefield out there!
Anyone heard of TSO host? Stumbled across them too in the UK but their cloud hosting plans look far too cheap to be that good? £20 a month they start at.
Wow, thanks for the heads up guys. Won’t be going down that route.
@pisanojm will check out provps.com now.
Would love to hear from other’s who already host in the UK on a decent, reliable cloud.
Right, the site hasn’t launched yet and I actually need to transfer the site over to a different domain name so I can easily setup a manual install over at the other domain and copy most things across.
The posts, groups etc are all very easy to do but the only thing that would be a pain in the bum is that I have 40 entires as custom post types in a custom directory lists.
Is there anyway to copy those entries into a new database or is that wishful thinking!
I had no idea Fantastico was so bad, are lots of people finding holes in it?
Cheers

@nexia Yeah this one in question was a one click install through Fantastico offered in cpanel with my host.
The installs where the user is created for the database is installed through Softcalculous.
I can change the passwords for the Softcalculous installs no problem.
I’m actually about to move hosts. Would it be possible to create a new install and port my DB across to eliminate this issue?
@DJPaul @nexia Thanks for the replies guys.
The only thing in my footer is a tag cloud widget which is the generic one built into wordpress?
I have deactivated all plugins when the new password is set and that doesn’t help and this occurs in EVERY theme so it’s not my theme.
It’s really bizarre. I’m going to get Boris to take a look over FTP but if we can’t find anything would you guys be prepared to take a look?
One thing I have noticed is that with the MYSQL DB for this site, there are no users attached to it, so it is just one DB and one password for it. On my other sites the install seems to have created a user for the DB which is set the same in wp-config so that even when you change your main passwords the user password is unchanged and therefore you don’t have to edit wp-config.
Saying this I’ve tried setting up a user and changed the details in wp-config to match and the problem still persists. The entire site works except for the footer not showing.
Bloody odd.
You can see the site and footer showing at the mo at http://www.actonthis.co
@modernlooper, god knows mate! It’s weird though. Something in my footer must need access to the database to show or something and changing the password to the new password in config.php doesn’t cut it. The rest of the site displays but the footer disappears!
Very very weird indeed!
The footer shouldn’t only be showing for certain user roles no. It’s really odd. I have no idea why my footer won’t display if I change my password in Cpanel.
Never seen anything like it before. bizarre.
Thanks, have done!

Haha, yeah we’re not quite sure why but using an absolute position on the nav fixed it’s issues in all version of Firefox (it was playing up in version 3.0 too) and all version of IE but consequently broke the nav in IE 8, sending it far up the other way and up almost off the page.
Anyone know why? I thought it bizarre that it fixed it in all older versions yet 8 then broke?
Ended up creating a separate style sheet for IE8 with a CSS fix.
Was that the best way to go do you reckon. It was a learning curve for both Bowe and myself.
Lastly are there any auto widgets out there that will offer download links to the latest versions of browsers.
How can we make it easy for users to know their browser is out dated and that they can upgrade easily?
Thanks!
And thanks again to Bowe for helping me implement the fix tonight. I would have been lost otherwise!

Thanks guys that’s great info!
Didn’t know I could render sites in IE through that website so thank you.
Thing is I’m not remotely technical when it comes to more advanced CSS. I can do the basics but this may be out of my league.
Are we talking just a couple of CSS blocks to fix this or is it more complex.
Might need to employ someone that’s all.
Cheers!
In reply to: Friend Acceptance Notification NOT GOING AWAY!Right it seems that after the request will only go away if you click on it to be taken to the newly accepted friend’s profile and then click on the friends tab.
It will go at that point.
The link the notification sends you too is: http://www.mysite.com/members/username/?new
Is that the right format?
In reply to: Friend Acceptance Notification NOT GOING AWAY!Thanks for that, but just checked my files and the code is that newer version. I’m using BP 1.2.7 and am bang up to date. I just cannot for the life of me get rid of this friendship accepted notification. Very very bizarre.
Any other ideas?
In reply to: user blogs without multisiteYou can set up ‘Gravity’ forms to allow posting from the front end.
users would merely write an article in the front end, submit it and you can then publish it from the backend on their behalf. I use this and it works perfectly. users can still submit a picture with the article too.
Hi mate,
I worked this out in the end.If you go into your buddypress file on your ftp, then go into the Bp forums file, you will see something called bp-forums-templatetags.php.
You are looking for references like these:
‘ function bp_get_the_topic_admin_links( $args = ” ) {
global $bp, $forum_template;$defaults = array(
‘seperator’ => ‘|’
);$r = wp_parse_args( $args, $defaults );
extract( $r, EXTR_SKIP );$links[] = ‘‘ . __( ‘Edit Topic’, ‘buddypress’ ) . ‘‘;
if ( $bp->is_item_admin || $bp->is_item_mod || is_super_admin() ) {‘
Look at the last line of that code.
To only allow a admin to see the edit / delete links delete the other permissions as appropriate.
Hope that helps!
In reply to: 2 plugin ideas,1. +1 fror that definately! Great idea!
2. Nice but i don’t need this.In reply to: Controlling a form to drop down with ajax?It’s okay guys, looks like Andreas has it covered with some Jquery! Thanks though!
Best way to do this is use the premium plugin ‘Gravity Forms’. It will enable you to set up a submissions form for a post that they can fill in, write their article, attach a picture and then post. It will automatically publish or you can set it so you have to publish it once submitted. I use it and it works GREAT! One of the best plugins for WP in my opinion!
the site s looking GREAT Bowe and I can vouch that it certainly is one to watch! I know you have BIG plans Bowe so I will wait with baited breath for more developments! Good Luck!
