    My issue was resolved.

    thanks @r-a-y!!!

    this seems to solve some of my problem.

    still what i am doing is loading this new custom page while viewing another profile.

    so on the left hand side under me i can see my avatar and all the nav options but for the user i am looking at i can see all the nav options but not the avatar and name.

    it seems that $bp->bp_options_avatar and $bp->bp_options_title are both empty so once again i suspect $bp is empty but on a different component of the screen.

    anything i am doing wrong here?

    Thanks for your help.

    There is a function that checks if a user is a site admin (can’t remember the name now but if you can’t find it let me know). you can use it to exclude the admin this allowing him to do send the message.

    Thanks,

    hey,

    I was able to get this to work but one question:

    when i go to my new page $bp is empty.

    any ideas why? this is quite urgent for me.

    Thanks for the help.

    AFAIK it is the register.php file that resides in the registration folder in your theme

    In the theme that you are running look for the file called screen.css

    in it you can find the header section something that looks like:

    /*** Header ************************************************************/

    #header {

    overflow: auto;

    width: 100%;

    background: #fff url(../images/LogoBanner.png) top left no-repeat;

    }

    it is a background image that points to a file in the images folder.

    I am sure you can take it from there.

    I am waiting for a response on his forum too but I am sure someone else have changed this search bar to contain something other than just the default.

    I hope someone here already have a solution to this:

    I am running wordpress MU with buddypress on top.

    I have added the bp-events plugin.

    Currently the search bar will only search members and groups and I would like for it to search through events too.

    When I choose members in the dropdown list with the string x I see the following URL being called: http://mydomain.com/wpmu/members/?s=x

    When I choose groups in the dropdown list with the string y I see the following URL being called: http://mydomain.com/wpmu/groups/?s=y

    I have edited the file that builds the dropdown list and now it also contains the Events option but when I choose that option for some reason the URL being caled when I search for event z is: http://mydomain.com/wpmu/members/?s=z

    I am not sure what I am doing wrong but it seems after my debugging that a parameter called _wp_http_referer is not getting the right value when the Events option is selected. instead of being wpmu/events/?s=z it is changing to wpmu/members/?s=z and this is what causing the URL to be wrong.

    It would be great if someone can point me to a solution or to what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks,

    Shai

    Well,

    I was able to get it to work quite well from its main ‘Events’ page so thats one step.

    I just want to use it from another page – just not sure exactly how the calls are being made etc.

    Does anyone have an experience of running this plugin but not from its main page?

    I want to run a search from another of my pages but not sure how to use the capabilities of this plugin.

    Would appreciate some help with that.

    Thanks,

    I have tried it now with city, state combination and it seems like it is working better.

    one thing to note though is that since the indexing is done using lon and lan the distance that you are actually getting is an aerial distance between two points (not driving distance etc.)

    Thanks,

    Hi Again,

    Removing the / seems to help though I am still having issues:

    1) in my test system I have 5 users and only 4 were indexed.

    2) for some reason out of the 5 users it seems that 2 users got indexes twice so that the contenct of wp_bp_user_geo is:

    1 1 37.3052272 -121.9871217

    2 1 37.3052272 -121.9871217

    3 3 19.8819564 41.6909381

    4 3 19.8819564 41.6909381

    you can see that rows 1 and 2 and rows 3 and 4 are identical (second column is userid) so what happens when you run the search is you get the same result showing twice (while some users are not indexed at all).

    Anyone ran into something similar and can help here?

    Thanks,

    Shai

    @Mike – selected zip code with the hope that the geo plugin will know how to find member using zip code proximity. But since I am not able to run the indexing process I can’t really tell if that works or not. Once I can run the indexing process and get some search results I will know how it actually works. Till then this is pretty much useless for me.

    I do not have a problem selecting the fields – that works fine once this thing is installed correctly. the problem is that it will not find anything if the users are not indexed.

    there is an option of clicking “here” from the admin page of this plugin but when i click on it nothing happens. that is my issues.

    would love to hear if anyone got it to work.
