    Hey Boone — just tested this on a live install (dunno why I didn’t think to do it before) and it seems to work fine. No idea why it might be the case, but it appears that it just fails on XAMPP local installs (two different ones I’ve tried so far).

    Probably not worth worrying about — possibly just a useful data point.

    Thanks again for this plugin! Just a few more forum-related things I need to do to make my forum users happy, and I might be able to move them to the new Buddypress site without too much moaning…

    Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I’m running into a slightly odd issue with testing. The comments thread for each Link posted includes comments and activity items for all the Links on my testbed install, rather than just the thread for the link currently being viewed.

    In other words, if I’m looking at, say, http://localhost.localdomain/mefightclub/links/samplesite1-com

    I see comments posted for samplesite1.com, but also for samplesite2.com and samplesite3.com and all the other link items that have been created.

    Any thoughts, MrMaz?

    Edit: Hmmm. The dropdown for categories doesn’t seem to be working either. I wonder if there’s some kind of conflict happening…

    Getting these errors in the apache logs… something’s b0rked!

    [Mon Mar 29 09:48:09 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] WordPress database error Table 'sitename_wpmu_buddypress.bb-attachments' doesn't exist for query SELECT * FROM 'bb-attachments' made by require_once, require, do_action, call_user_func_array, bp_forum_attachments_check_installed, referer: http://localhost.localdomain/sitename/wp-admin/

    The bb-attachments table does exist, though, and is populated with data.

    Back at my localhost install, finally.

    What happens if you try to visit a URL like http://example.com/wp-content/plugins/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/image.php?filenum=9

    It shows me a page with that URL in it. Weirdly, the browser (Firefox) thinks it’s an image — there’s no HTML source.

    I’m going to be away from my office computer for several days, so I won’t be able to test, but I’ll followup as soon as I’m able… thanks again for working on it!

    I use a plugin for quoting on a Vanilla forum that I run for about 1000 users (that I’m thinking of moving to Buddypress) that does exactly as I described. You highlight comment text, hit the quote link, and the text you have highlighted (only) is copied to the textbox with the appropriate cite/blockquote tags. Highlight nothing, the whole comment is copied, again with appropriate blockquote and cite tags. If that’s not the intended behaviour here and I’ve found a bug, I’ll see if I can hack it in myself using that as an example.

    How would you expect it to know what you have quoted? … It is not like a mail client

    I’ll add trying to not be insulting to my request to try not to derail threads. Simply because you don’t see how to do something doesn’t mean a) it’s not possible or b) it hasn’t been done before.

    Please try not to derail. I was not complaining about BBpress.

    I was asking the plugin author specifically for clarification of specific functionality in his plugin, which extends the default BBpress toolset we’re working with.

    Quick note — changing

    .picture-activity-thumb {
    float:left;
    margin-right: 10px;
    }

    to omit the float:left in general.css

    fixed an issue I had with my child theme in the activity stream with a messed-up ajax comment box.

    Just in case that helps anyone else (and isn’t totally obvious heh).

    Just had a play with this plugin. Splendid work, front and back end. Thanks!

    Check out modemlooper’s widgetized child theme skeleton thingy. Don’t have the link to hand, but it’s a good place to start!

    Actually I was looking for a simple snippet to show who’s online.

    Unless I’m mistaken, the ‘Who’s Online Avatars’ widget is part of the default Buddypress install.

    Is this what you’re looking for (and gwu123 has recreated)?

    Things seem to be working, Boone, but the Big Hope that I had, inlining, isn’t working for me, still, sadly.

    Couple of use-case notes that I hope will help you wrangle stuff:

    1) Editing a comment with an attachment (image, in this case) shows browse buttons to add new attachments, but no sign of the image already attached before the Edit.

    2) Editing a comment and trying to add another attachment doesn’t actually add the new one.

    I’m doing this on a localhost.localdomain XAMMP install — don’t think that should matter, but just in case, I thought I’d mention.

    kriskl, the very latest versions of this and the Forum Extras plugin are working for me in tandem (or at least, not broken other than what I mention above). Quote works fine — don’t have any other the other subplugins enabled other than the wrapper.

    Couple questions about the Quote plugin:

    1) Hitting the ‘Quote’ button populates the textarea with the text of the entire post being quoted, rather than just selected text. Is that the intended functionality?

    2) Quoting a post that already quotes something (the much-feared QUOTE PYRAMID, or at least the beginning of one) doesn’t work (it populates the [cite] but not the [blockquote])… again wondering if that’s by design or not.

    Found the conflict I mentioned earlier — it was Boone’s old Forum Attachments for Buddypress (at version 0.1). The latest version (0.2.2) works fine, and all is well (so far).

    Thanks to both of you!

    Awesome, Boone, and thanks. I’ll test it out as soon as I can.

    Ajax quote’s working nicely, but I do have a bug report.

    Looks like activating the BuddyPress Forums Extras wrapper makes clicking on the Groups navigation tab redirect me to the home (activity stream, in my case) page. The link is correct (ie /groups), but it just redirects home.

    Navigating directly to a group page (ie /groups/groupname) is OK. Just the top level not going.

    All other nav items are OK, except the one for Links from MrMaz’s BP-Links plugin, which does the same. Odd.

    Disable the wrapper, and navigation is OK again.

    Just tested it, works nicely. Thanks for this. Going to dig in to using the hooks and stuff soon!

    This is tangential, but is it kosher to suggest feature enhancements for this forum right here in this subforum?

    As more people are coming in, it’s getting increasingly frustrating to use the forum here, unfortunately.

    It’s never really worked very well, back to 1.0 — crazy GUID usernames and such.

    Andy’s said (if I recall correctly) that he regarded it more as a proof of concept than a full-on working plugin.

    No love here for sig lines or bbcode (in principle), but I was trying to port ajaxed quote myself with no luck, so that’s a great help. Thanks!

    Nice work, thanks! I’ll be having a look at it this weekend, definitely…

    Looking forward to your bbpress plugin ports! I tried doing it myself and soon ran up against my nearly complete lack of PHP skills…. ;-)
