In reply to: No really good BuddyPress search plugins availableIn reply to: Search Activity/ GroupsIn reply to: Integrate BP Navigation in WP Menus
@deshmukh You could use the ‘Links’ menu type and create custom links where you enter the title and URL manually.
In reply to: Integrate BP Navigation in WP MenusIn Appearance > Menus make sure Buddypress is ticked in screen options. That takes care of user links.
To link to a specific group, I would just create a custom link as you would do for any other link type.
In reply to: Profile menu! That’s a theme issue, you’re best taking that up with your theme developer. Or if you’re using a free theme, you could request custom development work here – https://buddypress.org/support/forum/plugin-forums/bp-jobs-board/
In reply to: Sidebar Pushed to BottomMy advice would be to use this plugin instead for a wall:
There’s nothing in this for me, it’s purely a recommendation. But the guys at BuddyBoss are very good.
In reply to: Profile menu! Please give the community here time to respond, don’t forget people are in different time zones.
By default the links you’re referring to are part of the WP Toolbar which is fixed at the top of your site. When a user is logged-in this bar will also include the user account menu in the top right. If you’re not seeing this, check ‘Show the Toolbar for logged out users’ in Settings > Buddypress > Settings in the admin dashboard.
Also make sure ‘Anyone can register’ is ticked in Settings > General.
If both options are enabled and you don’t see the Toolbar as a visitor, it may be your theme or a plugin is disabling it. Either way you can add Register, Lost Password, and Login to any menu of your choosing. Open Appearance > Menus > expand Screen Options and tick Buddypress. You can then add those links to any menu you wish, along with the other Buddypress menu options.

In reply to: Sidebar Pushed to Bottom@greghyatt Can I ask which theme and plugin you are using Greg?
In reply to: Sidebar Pushed to Bottom@greghyatt I’m reasonably familiar with Buddypress Wall? Do you have a link for your site?
In reply to: Activity stream commenting on blog postsI’ve only recently enabled and checked this to see how it works. It’s two way – a newly published blog post will appear in the site-wide activity feed. I also use the BP Follow plugin meaning the same activity (notifying of a new post) will show in personal activity > following.
Myself, or anyone else can then reply to that blog post directly from any activity feed in which it appears, and that reply will be added as a normal comment on the post itself.
Hope that makes sense 🙂
In reply to: How to force login screen before accessing site?@jruffellsmith Something to consider though – if you send users directly to the wp-login screen before they can see any of the site, how are you going to provide an explanation on the nature of the site itself? You can customize the wp-login screen but it’s not really suited to the addition of anything more than a small amount of text.
The plugin I recommended will let you to block everything save for the page(s) you declare.
In reply to: How to force login screen before accessing site?@jruffellsmith I’d recommend this – https://wordpress.org/plugins/jonradio-private-site/
In reply to: Activity stream commenting on blog posts@disha76 This feature did come to life when I ticked the Site Tracking box 🙂
Thanks.
@disha76 Did the BuddyBoss guys get back to you?
In reply to: Activity stream commenting on blog postsI do have that setting enabled. I thought when I commented on blog post that comment would then show up in my activity stream – it doesn’t. I can’t see any difference in activity / commenting.
Disappointing…
In reply to: Activity stream commenting on blog postsCan anyone assist please?
@ronia Out of respect for the developers I’d rather not do that the theme isn’t complete. If you can get an email address to me I can put you in touch with them.
In reply to: Notifications BehaviourYeah, happy to do that.
@ronia I can only speak from my own experience of using BuddyBoss and I can’t speak highly enough with regards the quality of their products and the support they offer (which is truly exceptional).
My advice would be to sit tight for short while – the BuddyBoss team are beta testing a new theme which I know addresses some of the issues you’ve raised above, specifically the profile cover photo. These are available on Profile and Group pages, and be can turned on/off in the Customizer.
I can’t speak for the Media side of it as I don’t use photos on my site. But BuddyMedia 2.0 has just been released on the BuddyBoss site which includes the option to tag friends.
In terms of mobile responsiveness BuddyBoss blows everything else out of the water. Open their site on your mobile, or sign up and try the demo. RTCamp doesn’t come close.
Like I say, they have a new theme coming, I have it setup for testing myself. I’d wait for that.
In reply to: Notifications BehaviourHi @henrywright
I opened a Trac ticket to suggest Live Notifications some time ago:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5976The theme I’m beta testing has these included.
This other ticket covers what I believe needs fixing with how notifications are generated:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6057#ticketIn reply to: Notifications BehaviourI understand how notifications work. I just feel they’re quite seriously flawed – which is where that plugin might be useful.
IMO email notifications will not be of interest to most users. At least not those on tablets or mobiles. I’m trying to look at it purely from a users perspective, and the default notification setup is not friendly.
I’ll try the plugin.
Thanks.
In reply to: Full Profile Page without having sidebar@osamanuman Which theme are you using?
In reply to: Comment to Updates not triggering notificationIn reply to: Comment to Updates not triggering notification@sebacar @mercime Hi Sebastien, from looking at replies to your Trac ticket, I think something is being lost in translation between ourselves and the devs.
To quote the official documentation :
Notifications are a central aspect of the user experience on a BuddyPress site. By default new notifications are displayed in the admin bar profile menu, right next to the navigation menus, some themes even integrate the notification counter in other places (like in the header or sidebar of a page).
Notifications are sent out to your community members as soon as one of the following things happen:
Activity
A member mentions you in an update @username”
A member replies to an update or comment you’ve postedThe activity in bold above definitely stopped triggering notifications on 3 different sites I was testing, where it had previously generated a notification (probably 4 months+ consistently). Quite simply, that notification trigger stopped working. This should not be a new feature, it was already there.
In reply to: [Resolved] Recognise logged on user in activity@nicolacirotto Thanks! Always good to share 🙂
