In reply to: BP could handle a huge number of members?
However, any geek is quick to point out that “WordPress doesn’t scale”. I’ve always wondered if that was just an urban myth. There must be some truth to it?
In reply to: Themes in 1.3He probably means 1.1.3
In reply to: How to create forums?In the Dashboard there is a “Forums Setup” link under the “BuddyPress” menu. Should be a simple two click process assuming you’re running a stable version (i.e. 1.1.3. I don’t believe the bbPress files are included in the trunk versions).
Did you try updating the Permalink structure?
In reply to: style vs screen CSSAh right. I’d copy/pasted that from a standard WordPress theme. Thanks for the correction.
In reply to: style vs screen CSSYour code is wrong. Try this in the head section of your header.php file
<!--[if IE 7]>
<link href="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/_inc/css/screen-ie.css"
rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<![endif]-->And unless you want to view source to see if it’s working (i.e. your comment line)… I’d just do some ridiculous in the css file like:
body {font-size: 400% !important;}
You’ll know right away if it’s working. But that will work. Your link was just wrong and you had a stray style close tag which you didn’t need.
In reply to: style vs screen CSSThat line of code pulls in style.css… which in turn imports screen.css, fonts.css, admin-bar.css… etc. There actually aren’t any styles in style.css.
In reply to: How to Edit User and Options Nav???Ah. Very cool. Good to know! And good work. Thanks.
In reply to: style vs screen CSSstyle.css has this line in it
@import url( _inc/css/screen.css );In reply to: How to Edit User and Options Nav???There is a template called optionsbar.php in the parent theme… but it just calls a function of course… bp_get_options_nav(). So I’m not sure you can reorder them. Maybe someone else knows.
In reply to: Buddypress Hierchy ChartI don’t believe the BP theme as a template hierarchy. All of the template in the parent theme are required. I would say.
In reply to: Problem with activation@Xevo – Probably does work. Never tried it. “bleeding” = latest trunk… beyond 1.1.3.
My “sledgehammer” option assumes you have access to your Database… most likely via PHPMyAdmin. Look for a databases option in your web host control panel. Open the database for your site and look for the wp_sitemeta table near the bottom of the list of tables on the left. Open that table. Then click on the “browse” tab to see the contents of that table. Now look for the “active_sitewide_plugins” row (in the meta_key column). Edit that sucker. Just click on the little pencil. And simply delete the junk that is stored in the “meta_key_value”. This worked for me. But please bear in mind… you’re messing directly with the database! And you do so at your own risk. But again… this worked for me. And it should be pretty safe. Just don’t go editing or deleting other things in there willy-nilly. You could bust the entire site pretty easily.
Maybe make a backup before you start. Right when you open the database… click the “export” tab.
In reply to: Problem with activationI’m getting the issue with the latest trunk and a completely virgin default theme. Activation works fine without BP active. But I’m not complaining. I’m running the ‘bleeding edge’… so I expect bugs.
In reply to: Editing FooterThat’s because “default” is a child theme. It inherits it’s footer from it’s parent theme. To create a custom footer for you child theme… just copy the footer.php file from the parent into the child. The child footer will override the parent.
In reply to: Problem with bp events plugin (Fatal error)Oh… I also just discovered that using Transmit for Mac… and the WebDav protocol… I can download versions in a friendly FTP-like interface.
Yup. Deactivate. Update. Activate. The problem occurs when you don’t do that. I made that mistake myself. I took the “sledgehammer” approach. Went into the DB and deleted the value for “active_sitewide_plugins”. Worked for me.
In reply to: BP 1.1.3 upgradeNope. The test site is using the latest trunk… not the 1.1.3 branch. Those changes you see on the test site will be released with 1.2.
In reply to: Problem with activationI’m having this problem with the latest trunk as well… using the default theme. But I guess that goes with the territory.
There’s always the sledgehammer approach… go into the database in delete the value for the key “active_sitewide_plugins” in the “wp_sitemeta” table.
In reply to: Running Trunk – Wire Still Here@Andy… interesting view on posting on other people’s profiles. Maybe I just suggested that because I’m so used to it on Facebook. But you may be right. I know I find it weird when I view someone’s wall and it’s full of stuff like “Hey… call me tonight… 456-7890”. Seems more appropriate for that stuff to be private direct messages.
But I think you could argue the point either way.
On another issue… one thing I find slightly confusing about the new model is “comment” and “reply”. I wonder if threading in the activity feed is a bit of overkill? I think it could just be flat… just “comment” only. Not reply. But I’d be interested to hear your thinking on this too. After all… I’m sure your goal is not to simple recreate Facebook.
In reply to: Problem with bp events plugin (Fatal error)p.s. Of course… that assumes your system has SVN. I think I had to download it and install it on my Mac. It’s a UNIX binary. If you’re on a Mac… this page may help:
In reply to: Problem with bp events plugin (Fatal error)Open a terminal window and type this:
svn co https://svn.wp-plugins.org/bp-events/trunk/Altho’ that may change soon as Erwin just got his trac server fixed. It was down for two weeks. Here are the URLs of his original bp-events page and his new Trac server for bp-events. Use the Trac server for bug reports, feature requests, etc.
In reply to: Groups Create The Forum Categories? Weird.It makes sense to me, but in my experience, it does confuse new users. They don’t get that the forums page is simply a directory lists of GROUP forums. It is a bit of a mental leap. Makes sense once you “get it”. But yes. I’ve had users in my test group ask me why we have both Groups with Forums and Forums. They don’t understand at first that it’s just two views of the same thing.
In reply to: Running Trunk – Wire Still HereWhatever you call it… I think we still need a way to create a new comment on someone’s “wall”, “wire”, “stream”… whatever. I LOVE the new model. It makes so much more sense to be able to comment directly on content in the stream. But there still needs to be a way to go to someone’s profile and say something new like “Hey… are we still on for tonight” or whatever. Otherwise the only way to address someone directly regarding something new is to use private messaging.
