Hi!
I’m also having these problems. Localy (XAMP) it all works okay but uploaded to my webhost none of the pages (members, groups, profile, etc) works.
I’ve tried using the deafult theme and my own theme – no change.
I’ve tried without any plugins – no change.
It’s 1.1.1 and latest WPMU. I’ll see about trunk later on.
I’ve yet to put up another local installation or online. That will be the next step.
Like the first poster I’m using hostgator. How about you rfauster?
In reply to: Getting a consistent lookIt seems the only menu you can hook into is ‘visit’.
You can alter navbar, userbar and optionsbar. It’s not the same but still useful. I’ve done it but I don’t remember how to alter the optionsbar anymore.
In reply to: How to register a new directory?Ah! Fantastic. Thanks a lot!
In reply to: How to increase activity-avatar image size?Hi!
In the example above I’m altering the forum poster avatar and am changing the size with with and height. So it works without editing core. Try if you can get the same effect with the function you are using.
This is not a question of editing bp-core but the specific theme file. I was for example editing:
theme_name/directories/forums/forums-loop.php.
You’ll have to edit some theme file at least.
In reply to: How to Change the Text Font?Firebug is an excellent tool to find where you can change things. If you get Firefox and install Firebug (addon) you’ll get tons of work done. With it you can just point at things in the browser and it will tell you the current CSS that’s governing it. You can even add temporary CSS with Firebug to test things out.
The next step is to modify the CSS-changes in some file that you’re using. How proficient are you with that?
Look at:
The last line of style.css is: /* @import url( _inc/css/custom.css ); */. Remove the starting /* and the ending */ on that line. Save the file.

In custom.css you can make the changes you want to add. If you’re not proficient with CSS you have to read up on that.
In reply to: Guide on how to link to different user pagesHi again!
This is a picture of how it looks in my page right now:
http://skitch.com/tore/nnsxq/profile-page
[Ändra profile] [Byt bild] [Allmänna inställningar] [Epost-notiser]
means
[Change profile] [Change avatar] [General settings] [Email notifications]
You can set any name and skinning of course.
In reply to: How to increase activity-avatar image size?I wanted to edit the forums avatar and could edit this:
‘<?php bp_the_topic_last_poster_avatar( ‘type=thumb&width=50&height=50′ ) ?>’
You can find it in the theme /directories/forums/forums-loop.php.
First I’d backup everything (files + db). When you’ve got something wrong, it’s easy to mess it up even more if you’re not careful. At least, that’s my experience.
I’ve seen advice (after the above) to delete BP from the plugins folder. I’m not sure about it and perhaps someone more experienced than me can answer that before you do it.
In reply to: My BP Looks all funny! That’s a very broad question.

The thing is…. it’s really quite new to all of us. It’s a new feature and haven’t been tested that extensively. There are no step 1, step 2, step 3 guides. I’m sitting and integrating the P2-theme with Buddypress and it’s a lot of work. I’m new to this and slow but if you start to read the code and try to understand it it’s quite possible to make it bend in the manner you want.
In reply to: Getting a consistent lookGreat! It’s encouraging to read about others making 1.1 work for them.
In reply to: My BP Looks all funny! Also, get to know Firebug if you don’t already. It’s not possible to work without if you’re a newbie like me.
In reply to: My BP Looks all funny!Did you do this step?
“You can try including the components.css file from the BuddyPress parent theme to add layout styles to BuddyPress pages. Open up your WordPress theme’s style.css file. Add the following line below the comment header:
@import url( ../bp-sn-parent/_inc/css/components.css ) “
From the guide:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/upgrading-a-buddypress-1-0-theme-for-buddypress-1-1/
That will get you a bit further to styling perfection. The rest is up to you. I’m sitting and styling my website right now. Lots of fun and frustration.
In reply to: Your currently active theme is not BP enabled.Great!
I’ve got a closed website so there’s nothing to show.
In reply to: How to increase activity-avatar image size?In reply to: How to increase activity-avatar image size?I’d like to know this too.
The only thing I’ve learnt is that you can create a bp-custom.php and place it in /wp-content/.
I’ve been playing around with integrating BP into P2 and it works pretty okay. There’s lot of CSS that has to be replaced.
What I found was that userbar/optionsbar wasn’t called in the header (I didn’t do that step) and suddenly KISS is true. I’ll only call for certain pages in the header with a menu that gives the users what they need.
P2 / Forums / Profile / Settings / Log out
That’s it. No userbar/optionsbar. These will be included in the top pages above. Groups are used as categories and will be displayed on Forums / index.php above the latest post. Instead of popular forums I’ll include all the forums that exist.
There’s a lot of work to be done but it’s also simpler than I thought it would be. Thanks for all the work Andy & crew!
In reply to: Your currently active theme is not BP enabled.Hi again!
Read this:
“I’ve used a WordPress theme for my blog with the default BuddyPress member themeâ€
Over at:

You’ll have to edit things and if you’re not comfortable with that you’ll probably need more help than you can get here.

I don’t know your level of knowledge. Search around the forums and read up on the topics you need. I haven’t had answers to all my questions here in the BP-forums. You’ll have to search for some of them on your own.
@ Boone Gorges: That would be fantastic.
Another way of looking at this is community size. A lot of us won’t have mega huge communities like Facebook. Not even 50.000 members. So then it comes down to fragmentation of user activity. Do we need a lot of venues and ways for users to interact?
I’m quite content with P2 for status updates, a forum and wire on personal pages. This is already a lot and groups on top of that will only confuse and fragment discussions.
Groups will probably be great with tons of functionality but where’s KISS?
Anyways, I’ll have a go at it. Probably hackish but perhaps good enough for me.
In reply to: Your currently active theme is not BP enabled.Hi abcaa6!
There are just a few themes right now that are meant to work with 1.1 unless you make som modifications. So (I assume) DjPaul is advising you to use the default theme template and not others (or the only other one found at buddypress.org/extent/themes/).
The parent theme + its child is one of the few that works right now. Unless you rebuild it yourself:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/upgrading-a-buddypress-1-0-theme-for-buddypress-1-1/
I’m off trying that myself right now. Cya folks!
This all depends on what you want your website to be about.
I’m guessing that you can modify the groups heavily so that they’re believed to be forum categories instead. Strip everything but the forums from the groups (members, admin, all) and change the way they look. The forums should be more prominent and have larger fonts, etc.
The downside is that all the groups-features will be unusable. At this time I’ll probably try to make this change and see what happens. It will be a modified groups child theme oriented at forums.
I’m all for integrated solutions and don’t want to have a bridge. They tend to collapse from time to time (at least back in the phpBB2 days).
In reply to: Do I need MU experience to use BuddyPressMU isn’t that much different in my experience.
In reply to: Groups and bbpress forumsI’ve been thinking about using the integrated forums with 1.1 and rebuild the groups to only mean forum categories. Strip the groups feature of everything that’s not forums. Also make it easier to read. The layout of a forum in groups is a bit simplistic. Perfect for groups but not for stand alone forums.
In reply to: Help me test a BP port of bbPress Attachments! Can’t do it right now, perhaps on saturday. Will love to test it! This is extremely interesting in my opinion! Great work!
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.1.1That’s fast! (trying to send this the second time, I’m getting blank pages a lot when posting at the forum)
