    If you add the following to your wp-config.php file, it should show the actual error on the screen:

    define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, true );

    That will hopefully give more of a clue as to what the problem is.

    It’s in the WP user_meta table – notification_activity_new_mention, only set if the option has been selected by the user. Hope that helps.

    It’s where you can ask for new features or report a bug.

    This link here describes swapping out the What’s New testarea for a rich text editor, it might give you some ideas.

    @venutius

    Moderator

    Yep you can build it into your theme direct

    @venutius

    Either that or add it as a feature request on BuddyPress Trac

    I’m not aware of any, that does not mean it does not exist.

    Are you still having the problem with the latest version of BP?

    Not really, I mean adding the functionality does add to the operational overhead of the site, however, the significant time factor is the actual upload time of the file, which would be the case for any platform/solution that involved allowing file uploads.

    This depends on the nature of the files and the plugin that is allowing the upload. All files will go into a subdirectory of the uploads directory. BuddyPress Avatars (profile images) for example go into the uploads/avatars directory, Profile cover images go into the ploads/buddypress/members/user_id/cover-image directory.

    Additional media uploads would need a plugin. mediapress for example and in that case they would go into the uploads/mediapress directory with a subdirectory for either member or group gallery uploads.

    I’ve only used BP Profile Search and I’ve got to say you would probably need to customise that too, it’s got the basic fuctionality in that it allows you to search all the profile fields but I think the search algorithm itself needs revamping, also it would need to only be visible to one member type I think.

    Looking at your requirements I’d say this is probably doable, but with quite a bit of customisation. BuddyPress supports member types, so you could set up two member types and make content decisions based on those members types (for example only display a member list for the male member type).

    You would however need to do quite a bit of customisation regarding the registration process. These’s a plugin called BP Better Registration that splits the registration process into several parts. This could be a basis of your registration process as you could make decisions based on the selected member types between page loads. So for example at initial registration you can ask for username password and member type, then the next page can ask for registration detaills based on the selected member type. That would all need to be coded.

    1-Two main groups, let’s call them “males” and
    “females”

    2-Both groups when registering must write specific
    information about themselves (e.g. MALES must specify: age, nationality, hair
    color.) (FEMALES, instead, must declare different things from the previous group)

    3-To complete the registration they must pay a fee (I think
    that I should use another plugin to do that)

    4-Once they are registered on the website “males”
    can start to upload media on their profiles

    5-Once “females” are registered they can improve
    their profiles too

    4,5 plus – Is it possible to make that media rely on a
    personal server?

    6-I want to make possible that only one group can send
    messages to other one (e.g. females can write to males but not viceversa)

    7-It’s important that only females can check the profiles of
    the males and the males are not able to see other males’ profiles (e.g. male1
    cannot see male2’s profile but female1 is able to see male1 and male2 profile).

    8-Related to point number 2: I need to complete those
    information because when females are looking for males they must be able to
    categorize them and find only the profiles that respond to that specific
    characteristic, that’s fundamental.

    9- Is this plugin fully responsive to make it easy to
    navigate from smartphone?

    I’ve raised the links problem on BuddyPress Trac, I’ve been able to add rich text editing to the compose and reply boxes for messages, it’s quite involved doing it but if you’d like that feature I can help you implement it.

    As a follow up to this, in order to add a rich text editor to the message reply page you would need to overload the file members/single/messages/single.php

    Replace:

    <textarea name="content" id="message_content" rows="15" cols="40"></textarea>

    with:

    <?php do_action( 'compose_edit_tools' ); ?>

    Standard debugging practice would be to deactivate all other plugins except BuddyPress, switch to a default theme such as 2017 and see if the error remains. If not then it’s a plugin or theme that is causing the problem, if the fault remains then there’s something wrong with the BP installation.

    Well what your error is saying is that on line 237 of /public_html/dev/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-caps.php there is a call to a function called bp_is_user_inactive, which it’s not recognising as being defined. There can be a number of reasons for this:

    The function has not been defined
    The core file that loads this function is missing or not found
    A plugin or some other file is interacting with WP to the effect that it can’t see that function.

    Installing Query Monitor and Debug Bar, turned on Error Logging in wp-config.php may help you gather more information about the error.

    This function should be defined in plugins/buddypress/bp-members/bp-members-functions.php around line 1129 so one check you could make is to see if it’s there.

    The issue is that I updated several sites to the latest WP without an error, so I can’t replicate your fault. It could well be that your own mods to BP Core have caused this, so it’s not possible to advise how to fix it.

    One thing I’d try though is deactivating BP, updating WP then reactivating BP. The only issue with this is you may find yourself unable to reactivate BP. If that happened then you would need to install the latest version of BP and re-implement your bp customisations.

    Technically, once you fork BP, it’s up to you to support it, since it’s impossible for us to know what changes were made and therefore how to approach any issues that you may face.

    Just to be sure, did you try updating to the latest version of BP before you updated WP?

    Some of your requirements can be delivered using alternative methods. BuddyPress comes with a friends widget for example, which displays the users friends. You can turn this into a shortcode using Shortcode any Widget, which will allow you to include it in a page area.

    @venutius

    This was reported as a bug and should be fixed in the latest version of BP

    @venutius

    I think you should add this as a new feature request into BuddyPress Trac, I think it should be a core feature since you will want to for example send a message to all friends in category X, or send an activity update to just those friends. I think that functionality would need to be enabled in core.

    Just so you know, I’m revamping BuddyPress Profile Shortcodes plugin and hope to add a lot of the features to have been asking for, I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

    If you are going to implement the visual editor for messages, you will need to overload the members/single/messages/compose.php file. You might like to use BP Template Overloader to help you manage your overloads

    I got the visual editor working for messages, It’s also accepting some html content. Links don’t work though.
