    For the first part of your query, check out the two “Mass Messaging” plugins for BuddyPress, these give you the ability to send a message to all users.

    Regarding sending html content, it’s not a great story but you can configure BP to accept some html tags, see this discussion:

    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/tinymce-for-replying-to-messages/#post-259368

    I’ve been playing with this but have not been able to get the visual editor working, but the second half of the code snippet is what you are looking at, relating to enabling html tags.

    Most themes support BuddyPress these days, thanks to template compatibility in that the BuddyPress pages are displayed and work. What most BuddyPress theme’s mean when they say they support BuddyPress is that they have modified the BP theme files and/or css in order to provide BP specific features.

    There’s over 100 template files that can be overloaded, most BP specific themes do not touch the majority of these, they tend to concentrate on just the main pages such as the members and group list and profile pages to give them a theme specific feel. Much of this modification is simply to add their own specific css to allow better control of how a page looks.

    To make overloading of the template files easier I created a plugin called BP Template Overloader. This displays all of the files available for overloading, allows overloads to be set up and allows you to compare your overloaded file with the BP master file.

    You would need to take the plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/activity/post-form.php file and put it in themes/child-theme/buddypresss/activity/post-form.php.

    This is used to create the What’s New form in the Activity, profile/activity and group/activity pages.

    It’s true blog posts content and also forum post content can be displayed in the activity stream, but a What’s New activity update can’t create a post. Though I’m thinking what you are after is a variable structure What’s New input form, with the ability to tag each activity update as one of your categories, with the ability to change the format of the activity update depending on the category it’s going to be posted as.

    I think that would take quite a bit of work, you’d probably need to overload the page that creates the What’s new section on the page and add Javascript to hide parts of that section depending on the button clicked. You’d also need to change the basic text input form to an editor with a lot of features – swap it out for the wp_editor input field so you get editor buttons and also the ability to add images.

    I’m not aware of any plugins that come close to providing that kind of functionality, it’s all doable of course, but I think quite a bit of effort would be required.

    This kinda sounds more like an authentication problem that one with BP per se, but you say it only happens on the BuddyPress login, not the WordPress login? When you say “run it on a responsive sit” what do you mean?

    @venutius

    Moderator

    Have you tried the opposite – switching to a default theme and deactivating all other plugins? Does login work then?

    @venutius

    I’m uncertain as to your described use case, the What’s New input is for activity, not forum posts or CPT’s, could you describe further how you see this working?

    When you say flag, do you mean block?

    @venutius

    Is it just the BuddyPress pages, or the whole site? When you took BuddyPress down did that solve the problem?

    I’m pretty sure you can do this by creating your own translation of the BuddyPress pot file for the field (Required) which is on line 1455 of the pot file. for details of how to do this you could look at buddyuser dot com/changing-the-text-used-in-buddypress-and-other-plugins

    One issue that people see is Hotmail rejecting the default email address that WordPress uses, you can change this using CB Change Mail Sender, see if that fixes it.

    You could put it in your functions.php or in a plugins/bp-custom.php file.

    So I think your function would look something like this, I’ve not tested this and like I say I’m no expert on $wpdb queries:

    global $wpdb;
    $users = $wpdb->get_results("SELECT ID from $wpdb->users");
    foreach ( $users as $user ) {
        $existing_field=$wpdb->get_results("SELECT fid FROM $wpdb->bp_xprofile_data for user_id = $user");
        if ( !$existing_field ) {
            $query="INSERT INTO $wpdb->bp_xprofile_data (field_id, user_id, value, last_updated) VALUES ( fid, $user, 3, date )";
    $results = $wpdb->get_results($query);
        }

    }`

    It does work, so there has to be another factor that is causing the members list to fail, are you sure you have tried it with no other plugins running and with a theme such as 2017 enabled?

    @venutius

    Then what you’d need to do is user SQL to pull off all the user_ids and put them into the $users variable and quirt that into the foreach loop.

    But you’d also have to add an if statement around the db INSERT in order to make sure each user only had the field once.

    Actually, I’ve just tried your code in an email and it worked for me. Are you inserting it in the Text editor, as opposed to the visual editor?

    @venutius

    Moderator

    Ah sorry, I didn’t read that properly, so you are trying to insert html, I’m afraid BP Emails struggle with HTML.

    @venutius

    First thing to try is to recompile the BuddyPress emails in the Dashboard>>Tools>>BuddyPress page. If you’ve modified them though your changes will be lost.

    @venutius

    Note that this assumes the field does not already exist for the affected users, which should be correct.

    @venutius

    I’d be tempted to do it in batches but yes it should work, probably not the most efficient way of doing it

    I’ve got a vanilla install of BuddyPress and it allows the user to change the visibility, so in your case there must be something interfering with the operation of this.

    Options:
    1. unload all other plugins, see if you can change the profile visibility, if that fails change your theme to 2017 and try again.
    2. It’s possibly a javascript issue, check the js console in your browser for reported errors.

    I’m not big on SQL but could you not put all of your user id’d in and array and run a foreach loop on that array with the command you used above?

    Something like:

    $users = array( 12,23,45,56); //array of user id's
    global $wpdb;

    foreach ( $users as $user ) {
        $query="INSERT INTO XXXXXX_bp_xprofile_data (field_id, user_id, value, last_updated) VALUES ( fid, $user, 3, date )";
    $results = $wpdb->get_results($query);
    }

    Where fid = the field number that you want to add and date is the timestamp for when the ddata was added.

    Hi there,

    the directory that is attempting to be created should be uploads/buddypress/groups/5/cover-image/

    I usually get this error when I’ve hit a limit on my host and it won’t let me create a new one. Could you check your hosting limits have not bee breached?

    Let me know when you’ve done that, I’m not sure notifications are working on track.
