Does this happen on all groups? Did you try it running the 2016 theme?
Have you tried deactivating all plugins and testing this? By default, activity in private groups stays within the group.
In reply to: EMAIL NOTIFICATIONThis email is editable from the Dashboard>>Emails>>All Emails page, it should have the following default content:
{{initiator.name}} wants to add you as a friend.
To accept this request and manage all of your pending requests, visit: {{{friend-requests.url}}}
You should be able to edit the content there.
In reply to: MemberType Tutorials? One resource I can suggest is my own site that I’ve been setting up for the last month, it tries to focus on using BuddyPress an at the moment covers some of the basics and reviews a lot of the plugins. Does not answer your specific questions right now though – http://buddyuser.com/
In reply to: Topics open in REPLY modeThis sounds like you need to raise it on the bbPress support forum
In reply to: Mailing Users by posting an Sitewide NoticeTry asking on the WP Forums maybe?
In reply to: Mailing Users by posting an Sitewide NoticeThis might be because the emails are coming out with a WordPress email address, you could try using something like CB Change Mail Sender to change the address to one specific to your site maybe?
In reply to: Mailing Users by posting an Sitewide NoticeNot for a sitewide notice, but you can pick from two plugins that give you the ability to sent an email to all users, these are Mass Messaging in BuddyPress and Mass Messaging for BuddyPress by Alkaweb.
In reply to: Creating a custom pageYou could use a pagebuilder that allows you to insert widgets into te page in order to display recent articles and upcoming events (assuming your events plugin has such a widget) for the other items you may well have to do a bit of development.
In reply to: “Send Message” without reloading the pageNot with that plugin, you’d probably need a code change for that.
In reply to: “Send Message” without reloading the pageYou could try this plugin, it replaces the profile page send message for with an Ajax form
No I’m not talking about deleting the page, only the menu item.
For me I only get this just a few times when choosing those pages, is it happening consistently for you? i.e. does it happen every time you visit that page?
Yes I’ve noticed this, on my site it tends to be the BuddyPres pages where this happens, so Groups or Members, and it is not consistent, If I go to another page and back to the page which showed you as logged out then you will be logged in again.
While I was investigating this, I did find some menu links to posts pages that consistently logged you out when you visited the post via the menu link, but not when you got to the page by other means, so I deleted those menu items and recreated them, that fixed that particular problem.
In reply to: how to add new membersIf they are known to you then you can set them up in the way that you suggested, if you choose not to send them and email, that will prevent the activation mail going out and they will be free to login, you will have to tell them their password though.
To those that have not activated their accounts you can view them in the Dashboard>>Users>>All Users views, their one view called Pending, it’s in here you will find unactivated users.
You could always turn registration on, for them, let them see a new users view of getting set up on the site.
I’m trying to put together a guide to setting up social networks with BuddyPress, you might like to give it a look, it’s here: It’s spread over multiple chapters that you can access via the “Installing BuddyPress” menu.
It’s nothing official, just information on what I’ve discovered over the past couple of years so it’s pretty current.

This is right over my head but I’ll try and run with it. Where do I put the action hook? functions.php? In reply to: [Resolved] Action FiltersExcellent! You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for this, Thanks!!!
In reply to: how to add new membersYes that user would have to be active to show up in the bp member list, you’d have to actually login once with that id
Is it test users you want to populate?
There’s a couple of plugins that will create test user information and traffic, including groups for a test site.
In reply to: [Resolved] Action Filtersah yes, sorry for getting that wrong, activity types it is. I’ll take a look at my DB later, see if I can find this. Last time I tried I failed 🙁
In reply to: [Resolved] Action FiltersThanks Dan, That looks like a very useful list. However it does not include what I’m looking for, since the filters I already know about are not mentioned there.
I’ve using BP Activity Shortcode and want to understand exactly what activities I can specifically display using the action= option, this I think takes standard BP Action events and displays those specifically, I wanted to create a list that would display all action items for a group with the exception of activity_update and activity_comment.
In reply to: profile page sidebar assignmentThis looks very interesting, I’ll have a play this weekend
In reply to: Profile Cover ImageSo you are not seeing those ones? Did you deactivate all other plugins and try a default theme?
In reply to: Profile Cover ImageWhich option in particular are you looking for?
You should see these:
Profile Settings
Profile Photo Uploads Allow registered members to upload avatars
Cover Image Uploads Allow registered members to upload cover images
Profile Syncing Enable BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncingGroups Settings
Group Creation Enable group creation for all users
Administrators can always create groups, regardless of this setting.
Group Photo Uploads Allow customizable avatars for groups
Group Cover Image Uploads Allow customizable cover images for groupsIn reply to: profile page sidebar assignmentYep I’ve been playing with it myself tonight, I found that you can also personalise those BuddyPress pages that are static and have a WordPress page such as Members or Groups.
It’s a shame it only does half the job and I’m not sure the Pro version does all of the other half, it does Groups, which I think is a big thing – to have each group sidebar as unique as the group is a nice idea. But there are other pages I’m not sure even the pro version covers.
I might be wrong though so I’m planning on testing it.
In reply to: profile page sidebar assignmentIt’s the “BuddyPress Members” option, down the bottom of the list. To my knowledge this is the only plugin that does this so far, I’m hopeful that woosliders can incorporate BuddyPress at some stage.
In reply to: profile page sidebar assignmentYes, you are looking for Content Aware Sidebars, this plugin allows you to create sidebars for each individual profile page view if you wanted to, it’s a little complex at first. I ended up just putting every possible profile page view into the one sidebar and choosing to replace the default sidebar with that.
