BP Album+ || New Features Requests and Discussion

If you need a free image gallery or photo album for BuddyPress, BP Album+ is probably the plugin you’re looking for. BP Album+ adds instant, FaceBook style photo albums to all of your user’s profiles.

You can always get the most up-to-date version from the WordPress plugin repository at this link:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/

Or, if you like living on the bleeding-edge of BuddyPress development, you can get the latest beta here:

    http://foxly.ca/bp-album-1_6_BETA.zip

    ======

This forum thread is for discussing new features the community would like to see in future releases of the BP Album+ plugin.

All ideas are welcome, no matter how crazy, bandwidth-intensive, or strange …but the final call on what goes into the plugin and when will be made by the development team.

Photos and user interfaces are a uniquely “visual” thing, so when posting an idea to this thread, please try to include a LINK to a website that’s doing the thing you want included in the plugin. For original functions that don’t exist *anywhere* yet, draw a sketch of your idea in a paint program and post a link to the image.

This will make it much easier for users that don’t speak English to understand your idea.

    So, Let’s get started!

Here’s the latest beta release of BP Album+

Now with ALBUMS, album-based workflow, and multi-size images like Flickr!

    https://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/bp-album/branches/foxly/0.1.9.1/bp-album-BETA-0-1-9-1.zip

This beta also features fully documented WordPress-Compliant source code, so if you’re a developer it will be easy for you to understand and help us extend the plugin.

To install this beta, you’ll need to wipe-out the previous version’s plugin directory and database tables. Also, go to the admin screen and click “save” before starting to use the plugin. It makes the plugin auto-generate the default album thumbnail image.

    Next up:

    1) High quality template files to show-off all the new features we added, and properly working pagination.

    2) Bulk media uploader

    3) Albums for groups

    4) Streaming video like YouTube. (Obviously, you’ll need a dedicated server for this so you can install Red5)

    ^F^

PS: Could somebody take some screen caps and post them to the forum so everyone can see the new features? Thanks!

    Hi,

I’d like is to have the order that images appear on the page reversed so that the last one uploaded appears first on the page

I just installed 1.7 (stable) and would like to know how to accomplish this also. What code would I need to modify or add?

    Thanks,

    Gene

    Thanks for the great plugin.

I don’t know if this was suggested in a previous post but it would be a bandwidth/space saver if there were an option for the Admin to set a maximum file size limit per photo.

@Gpo1 – have a look at the beta we just posted here. It will probably solve your problem.

@Gene53 – we’re adding sorting options and javascript drag-and-drop image re-ordering in the very near future. The beta posted above sorts images newest-to-oldest by default. So it already does what you want.

    Thanks!

@foxly Thanks, I’ll install the Beta. BTW, will there eventuality be an option to limit file size uploads?

I installed the new Beta and I keep getting:

Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, 'bp_album_screen_home' was given in /home/domains/mydomain.com/www_root/bp/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 414

in the header when I click Media.

Also, I don’t know if the above is related with image sorting but it still shows my older images first.

Wow, you guys just keep churning the updates out. When do you think it’ll be safe to use on a production site? (i.e. my users uploads won’t be deleted every time I update).

Instead of only adding support for a dedicated streaming, perhaps adding streaming from 3rd parties like youtube/dailymotion/veoh as well? Something like just a simple input where people can throw in the embed/url of the video page and then the youtube/dailymotion/veoh video gets added in their “videoalbum”.

Would be cool for people that don’t have dedicated server. :)

@Gene53 – all versions of BP Album+ (if you want them to) will limit the size of file uploads. Just set the maximum upload file size in wp to whatever you want to limit an upload’s size to.

Now on the other hand, if you’re talking about a *disk quota* where a user is allotted X megabytes of storage and can upload as many files as they want until they run out of space… that’s coming soon… because it will be necessary for video content.

@Gene53 and @ajohnson – it sounds like you forgot to wipe-out your previous BP Album+ install before installing the new 0.1.9.1 beta.

If you’re just joining the thread, the beta can be downloaded here:

    https://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/bp-album/branches/foxly/0.1.9.1/bp-album-BETA-0-1-9-1.zip

Trying to install the 0.1.9.1 beta over top of an existing BP Album+ installation will cause an error.

Although RELEASE versions of the plugin will *automatically* upgrade any previous BP Album+ version, beta versions will not. It would be far too time consuming to write an upgrade script for every beta release.

So, to install the beta, either start with a fresh wp/bp install on your development system (we use a script for this so it takes us 5 seconds to do). Or, if you’re doing things manually:

    1) Deactivate the plugin

    2) Use phpMyAdmin to DROP the “wp_bp_album”, “wp_bp_album_albums”, and “wp_bp_album_meta” tables

    3) Delete the bp-album plugin folder

    4) (optional) Delete the “…/wp-content/blogs.dir/…/files/album/” directory

    5) Copy the new bp-album folder into the plugins directory

    6) Activate and enjoy!

    Thanks!

^ It did all the above in that order. I get this error when I go to the media page.

    In Opera

Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘bp_album_screen_home’ was given in /home/me/public_html/me/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 414

then a bunch off random characters.

    In firefox:

    Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
