  • @mrmaz

    Participant

    Sorry for yet another thread, but a lot of people are saying they are waiting for final to even test this out. Mods please feel free to close my other threads.

    I just tagged 0.3 final. Read all about it here:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-links/

    If you are upgrading from the 0.2.x branch, read the readme.txt VERY carefully!

    Thanks to everyone who helped with this release! Also thanks to Andy for making BuddyPress Links a featured plugin.

    1. Creating a link goes blank but the link was created

    2. Accessing the admin section of a created link too goes blank

    3. Activity link of voting goes blank too

    Nice work, you found two bugs at once. The main one was introduced when I fixed date localization issue and the query wasn’t being passed to prepare. The other one has been there since version 0.1 and nobody ever picked it up, but its minor.

    Here is the update file in case anyone wants to do a hot fix, but this bug is not a big deal if you are just testing. I’m sure a 0.3.1 will come out by next week.

    This is without a doubt one of the best plugins I have ever seen.

    I have a couple of questions I have been playing with adding a (tweet this) to the link at the bottom where it says:

    ‘0 Comments (avatar image) admin created 5 seconds ago – (then here I would like to add a button for sharing)’

    Cant find the right section to allow this do you have any ideas?

    Another question as well is it possible to make the link section your home page, i.e. the first thing I want people to see is the link listing page, any ideas on how to do this?

    Some suggestions (you can tell me to take a running jump on these!)

    Is it possible to add a question in the link submission page (to prevent the inevitable spammers) like ‘whats 98 + 17 (enter in box) once they have given an answer the link is posted based on correct answer or wrong one throws up link could not be posted.

    The other idea is a bookmarklet code so people can post on there blogs etc, or some kind of iFramed box to show how many votes they have received on their blog once the it has been submitted.

    I know I may be reaching here but I just think this is a fantastice piece of code.

    Cheers dude, look forward to hearing from you.

    @MrMaz a far fetched feature suggestion – the ability to bring links into the group context. (if i wanted to share links at the group level as well as general categories for all)

    Wow – this plugin is almost perfect. Really nice work with the UI!

    To me it has one downside: It does not show the pictures in the activity-stream itself. And the comments are not the same (interlinked) with the activity-comments. To me the activity-stream is THE central part of BP, would be great if everything is already in there (not only text).

    I don’t know, probably that is hard to accomplish…! Or do you think about adding this in future versions! Would be just awesome!!!

    So, that I don’t just request things… I just made a german-translation… My first-ever :-).

    Hope it works…

    Could it be that some stuff, does not translate correctly (some of the filters etc)?

    Where do you want the translation? :-) (just contact me with pm)

    @miguael

    Participant

    Just found, that everything translates just fine. BUT – I don’t know, if it is because of the translation… in the Links-Directory it now shows me no content as soon as I try to filter… Any ideas?

    @bnt76

    Thanks for the kind words. I will respond to your questions later when I have more time,

    @Michael Berra

    The comments ARE part of the activity stream. I am using the activity stream API to create the comments, so they should be showing up on the activity page, and everywhere else. I will PM you later with my e-mail for the translation!

    @miguael

    And another small thing: When I comment on my own link, I get notified :-)

    You need to look at link-loop-item.php, there are a TON of actions in there.

    Another question as well is it possible to make the link section your home page, i.e. the first thing I want people to see is the link listing page, any ideas on how to do this?

    This was possible on the old default theme using a widget, but I dropped the huge widget until I can maybe bundle an optional CMS type home page with the plugin so there is room for the widget.

    Some suggestions (you can tell me to take a running jump on these!)

    I have been thinking about this, and I’m not sure how to handle it yet. I would like to get some more suggestions from the community before I pick a direction.

    The other idea is a bookmarklet code so people can post on there blogs etc, or some kind of iFramed box to show how many votes they have received on their blog once the it has been submitted.

    This will be in the pro version.

    @MrMaz, any idea how much the Pro version is going to cost?

    Remember in the first release, I said how BP Links resembled an aggregator? I’d love to see an aggregator-like feature in the pro version (if possible, and if you have the time to implement it of course!).

    @bnt76

    @MrMaz

    Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and subsequent suggestions, please keep me informed about the pro version of this plugin as it is integral to the proposed idea of my site, I don’t want to say that my site will hinge on this plugin (however this would be a lie)

    It’s just that after seeing this plugin it has pushed me into a whole new direction and one that I thought would not be possible, so please consider me your first customer!

    Just sent you a friend request, damn I love BP, just wish I had the technical ability instead of the ideas!!!

    @MrMaz

    Yes, the comments ARE in the activity-stream, but not as a comment to the activity, but like an update on it’s own (linked to the link page) – I hope you get me. I can reply/comment a link-comment. But I can also comment on a link-activity in the stream without showing the comment as a comment on the link page (wooow, that sounds complicated!)

    Don’t get me wrong – I think it’s a great plugin (therefore I translated it). But I would like it even more, when it would be more implemented in the activity-stream. Why all those extra-tabs, when the end-user is used to have everything in the stream. Then I would just need a filter (that is already there) and not an extra my-links-tab.

    I think it should be possible, because brajesh somhow did it in the upcoming gallery-plugin. It shows the pictures in the stream and the comments made on a picture, appear attached to it also in the stream.

    Those are just some thoughts to keep BP clean and simple with all the functions and plugins to come… Otherwise we will have tons of tabs and special pages…

    Hope this is constructive! :-)

    MrMaz is working on manipulating the activity stream, Michael.

    Future version!

    @Michael Berra

    I understand what you are saying now :)

    r-a-y is correct as he and I have discussed this privately since he has a plugin which injects media into the activity stream. I am working on integrating Links *directly* with the activity stream so you can attach a link to ANY activity update, just like you see on Facebook. Except I also hope to enable attaching links to replies as well. This is still in the planning stages, so if anyone has some input, now is the time to put in your two cents.

    I can’t believe no one busted me on this one, but I completely forgot to include a “Links” tab on the personal activity subnav on profile home pages! Wow, what an oversight. Its too late to put this in the 0.3 branch, so this will be in the 0.4 release. Sorry about that one!

    @mrmaz

    @Michael Berra

    But I can also comment on a link-activity in the stream without showing the comment as a comment on the link page

    Ok, I just now figured out what you meant by this. I see what is confusing, and I will fix it for the next version. Right now I am filtering out comments for “link created” activity, and if people reply to this it does not show up on the link home page.

    So the comment IS in the link home page comment stream, but its being filtered out, which is bad. I am going to remove this filter prior to the next release.

    Excellent feedback, thank you very much!

    LOL I told you that was missing, but you kept saying I should change my Child theme blabla.. Anyways I keep repeating myself here; Awesome work MrMaz.. It’s going to be a very prominent feature on the new BP-Tricks site, and I can’t wait for the Pro version to make it even better.

    @mrmaz

    @Bowe

    I didn’t know what you were talking about because I just noticed there were tabs there today, lol.

    @miguael

    Participant

    WOW – great! It sounds better and better :-)

    About the tabs – nevermind… I would leave them anyway (I have already too many, so that it’s not looking nice anymore…). To me “my links” is enough in the links-directory and I really wouldn’t need it on the main activity-page.

    Another question: Could it be (could you check) if the comment in the stream is translatable. It still says “posted a comment on the link” although I have my translation running (but maybe my translation has errors…)

    So – good night – it’s already pretty late here in Switzerland :-)

    @r-a-y

    MrMaz’s next version of BP Links will be the definitive media embedding plugin for BP!

    My plugin just utilizes what WordPress already has; it doesn’t do all the cool stuff MrMaz’s plugin does!
