The New BuddyPress.org
March 18, 2009 in News
If you’re reading this post in a feed reader, it’s time to head on over to BuddyPress.org and take a look at our shiny new look.
This site has been built from the ground up using WordPress and BuddyPress and now also acts as a complete developer network.
We’ve got a new plugin repository, theme browser, developer landing page, not to mention developer groups, integrated forums and developer profiles.
One thing you’ll notice as you begin to use the new site is the deep integration of all features. If you log in once, you’re logged into everything – the forums, developer network, codex and site blog.
Your activity stream will also track everything you do here, and that includes forum posts, trac tickets, blog comments and codex changes. We’re tracking your every move!
The final release of BuddyPress is very close. We’re currently looking forward to the release of WordPress MU 2.7.1. After that you’ll see some changes to adapt BuddyPress to the new plugin update functionality and then 1.0 release.
Happy BuddyPress-ing.

If you’re logged in when you comment, you’ll get a nice link to your profile under your avatar. Cool huh?

eeeeeeeeek… great news but the new layout breaks in IE8. here’s a screenshot…

i’ve noticed other buggy things in this new browser release, so hopefully it won’t affect BP too much =)

Really nice work Andy and everyone involved. One thing though, it seems logging into bp.org doesn’t log me into Trac. Is Trac the exception to the unified login?

wow great rebuild, can’t wait till themes start coming up, i have installed BP on vitamovie.com and last few days users have started posting stuff, what they do complain about is that they have to come out of the buddypres interface to post on the blog, they want to stay in their profile interface and not have to leave it at all , no this seems “stupid” to since the whole point is having a wordpress site and all the great functionalities of it, but some just simply want to be able to post on the blog without touching anything in their backend dashboard, what you think Andy, a frontend to wordpress

Looks great… I think the side menus being moved to the top is beautiful… we will have to make that change at some point in time… even though the side menus work well, the top menus work better… great job Andy.

It looks pretty–nice clean layout. However, I grew accustomed to the old profile. It was pretty easy to see the whole layout of every users profile. I didn’t like the former layout, however I see the practicality of it now. Putting the user sidebars to the left kept user information above the fold, but now with the new layout you are pushing data below the fold. This is especially cumbersome for laptop users, which is the majority in today’s market–or at least is headed that way. Trust me when I say I am not hating, just giving constructive feedback. I love the work you have done
Also, can you give some kind of estimated finish date? If not that’s cool! Peace…

Link to my profile would be cool lol…
I enjoy using buddypress so far!
The installation was very easy, DNS set up for sub domains was an issue. The whole setting wild card thing didn’t sit right with me. Even after changing the turbocelf.conf any new domains added will erase all edits.
I went with the sub directory but I’m sure for SEO I should have went with the sub directories.
Overall the SEO is poor! Issues with title tags, description tags are incorrect or poorly written.
The software is brilliant! Great work and I’ll be sticking around for some time if it’s ok with you… lol
Thanks for sharing buddypress!

Any idea on a rough time frame for a 1.0 release or any other RC releases before hand?
Great work though. We had the new theme on laptops at an exhibition the other day and everyone (4000+ people pre registered over 4 days), and I mean everyone commented that its “easier to use than Facebook”.
