BuddyPress 1.0.3 is now available for download.
This version fixes compatibility issues with WordPress MU 2.8.1. Due to major changes in this version of WordPress the updates to BuddyPress are very specific, therefore WordPress MU 2.8.1 is required for BuddyPress 1.0.3 and higher. Please upgrade your version of WordPress MU before upgrading BuddyPress.
There are now complete upgrade instructions, so please follow these step-by-step when upgrading BuddyPress.
Once you have upgraded to the latest, you will need to re-add your BuddyPress widgets. The widgets have been completely rebuilt with the new widget API. This is a one time step only.
As always, please backup before upgrading anything.
Question: does this only fix the MU 2.8.1 related stuff or are some other bug fixes included in this update?
It fixes support for 2.8.1, plus a couple of group forum bugs and invalid HTML fixes.
Great 🙂 I had some problems with spanish translation. I hope this will fix that problems.
i see facebook plugin gone there.. hope an update soon
Hi Andy,
First of all, Thanks for the awesome work you are doing on BP. The upgrade went well. Although I notice it disables the widgets from BP and looses the settings such as the “Welcome” box.
I have a question..
Should line 14 of widget-activity.css be
margin: 0 5px 5px 0;
instead of
margin: 0 5px 5x 0;
I’m trying to figure out if the Recent Site Wide Posts should be scaling the 50px x 50px avatar down to 25px x 25px ??
again thanks for the great work.
I’ve been waiting for this update for quite sometime because I’ve updated two of my blogs to 2.8.1 from 2.7.x because I wanted this type of functionality.
However, when I installed this on my upgraded WPMU instances, I get the white screen of death. Manually installing the BP plugin didn’t work either. The BP plugin literally “hides” the WP engine (dashboard, blog and all) in a blank white screen once it gets activated.
It’s a shame because I hear the same problem with a lot of users and there seems to be no clear solution to the problem. For now, I’ll wait for newer releases, hoping that that will fix the issue 🙂
While I think it’s great that there’s a new release of BP, I think the BP dev team should have waited before all the bugs in WPMU 2.8.1 have been ironed out.
Does this version integrate bbpress forums?
Thanks for all the *timely* awesome work. It helps me place faith in BP.
Hi,
Thanks for the update Andy
I’m preparing to update wpmu from 2.7 to 2.8.1, should I be using these guidelines:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WPMU
it says its for 2.6 to 2.7 updates, do I just follow these guidelines or are there some 2.7 to 2.8 instructions?
Thanks a lot!
@kim_nz: Yes it should, feel free to fix that in your CSS, I will fix it in a future version.
@Carlo de los Santos: if you are getting a white screen you need to check your error logs to see what the problem is. Something is not set up correctly.
@Ray: Small iterative releases work best.
@cozzie: You should be able to auto-upgrade WordPress MU using the built in updater.
When are you going to release buddypress that would run on wordpress platform and not in MU? Thank you!
Is the Bug with the Wire-Messaging (EMails) fixed in this Version?

Thanks
Cheers Andy! my auto upgrade wasn’t working, the links telling me to upgrade to 2.8.1 remained in admin. Turns out the problem was the one in this link
https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/13299
the solution is at the bottom of the page for anyone with this issue
Hello Andy,
The update to 1.0.3 was a surprisingly smooth process. Awesome Show, Great Job! This kind of activity really helps validate BuddyPress as top-notch plugin!
However, I did find one bit of code that should be changed:
bp-activity-widgets.php, line 11:
parent::WP_Widget( false, $name = ‘Site Wide Activity’ );
should be changed to:
parent::WP_Widget( false, $name = __(‘Site Wide Activity’, ‘buddypress’) );
Then again, I should be posting this in the dev area 🙂
On second thought…
…there are quite a few things that need to be fixed in this version.
If you have a live buddypress install, and you are thinking of upgrading to 1.0.3, you might want to check out the Fourms first. Just a heads up.
@Andy: is there a specific area where you want feedback and fixes posted?
[…] Entwickler-Statement […]
I made a manual upgrade, following instructions.
I have wpmu 2.8.1 installed
When I try to activate buddypress (no plugins active) I receive this error:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare bp_blogs_install() (previously declared in /home/blogeven/www/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-blogs.php:23) in /home/blogeven/www/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-blogs.php on line 99
@Wolly: Did you deactivate BuddyPress first?
@Baden: There were some translation oversights in the new widgets. I’ve fixed these up in the latest 1.0 branch. There are some other outstanding bugs to fix in 1.0 before 1.1, so there will likely be a 1.0.4 in a few weeks that will address some minor remaining issues.
problem solved, ther was an active plugin in mu-plugins.
Now I have another problems, home page works great as I try to enter everywhere I receive a 500 error.
I’m working on it.No active plugins only buddypress 🙂
ciao

problema solved it was not a buddypress problem.
Hello just want to ask you some questions, in testbp.com how did you create your custom site wide activity? 🙂 BTW there’s also a bug in timezone when I choose +8 UTC, in my members widget’s say [Adjust Time Zone]. Hope you ca help me.
I received a notice that a Buddypress upgraded was available, and clicked the upgrade automaticaly button on the plugins page.
Broke all the rules I see, finding this page after the fact. Did not backup or disbale widgets, and now all I have is a blank page and a busy phone as 30 members wonder where their blogs went!
HELP! I now know what I did wrong, but that is water under the bridge. What can I do to get my WPMU instalation back and Buddypress working, or re-installed, or what ever. My biggest concernis to salvage user accounts and posts if possible. I’ll chalk hours and hours of cutom css formating up to experience.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help! 🙂
Please can you help,
I messed up by trying to install bp 1.0.3 before upgrading to wp 2.8.1
I first had this error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_clone() in /home/blogfred/public_html/wp-includes/cache.php on line 380
I then realised I needed to install wp 2.8.1
I uploaded all wp 2.8.1 files to server and now I have the following error
Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Widget’ not found in /home/blogfred/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-widgets.php on line 14

Andy. Thank you SOOO much for BP 1.0.3. I finally got all the componets to work together in just a few hours after struggling for weeks with 2.7.1 previously.
There is just one more thing I cant figure out – getting the group forums to accept posts in BuddyPress. I have WPMU 2.8.1, BP 1.0.3 and BBPress 1.0.1. all talking to each other except for getting the error message “There was an error posting that topic.” when posting inside of BuddyPress Groups.
Is the old advice on the forums still relevant as I can not find many of the files they talk about in the instructions for integrating Buddypress with BBPress.
Thanks.
I’ve upgraded to 1.0.3, but it still says “There is a new version of BuddyPress available. View version 1.0.3 Details or upgrade automatically.” If I try again, it keeps saying it anyways. I’m ignoring it for now…
@Mark Leonard: That error indicates that you are not running 2.8.1 or not all the files were upgraded.
I’ve posted lengthy instructions in the forums for installing BuddyPress 1.0.3 with WPMU 2.8.1 and bbPress 1.0.1
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/bp-103-and-bbpress-which-version-plugins-cookies
Andy,
Thanks for the great work on BP. Unfortunately, I have not had any luck with this upgrade to 1.0.3. We had previously had the RC1 installed on a 2.7.1. I upgraded to BP 1.0.2 and things seemed to work OK. However, I then saw the upgrade to PMU 2.8.1 and tried to upgrade. That is when I started getting the error when I clicked on any Activity links:
You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.
Please move “/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/” to “/wp-content/bp-themes/” and refresh this
However, when I tried to upgrade to 1.0.3, I still get the same error. I didn’t see a auto-upgrade as mentioned in the readme, so I changed my theme, deactivated BP, deleted my BP 1.0.2 install, removed the bp-themes and bphome directories, and tried to go through the plugin install from scratch through “Add Plugin” and moving the directories. However, the error persists even after trying to do several refreshes, etc. I tried to go back through this procedure and am still stuck. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

@Plrk
the patch for MU 2.8.1 that solve the problem is here: https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/changeset/1868
download the zip for the modified files and overwrite it, and the notification disappear.
Thx Andy ,
You were right. I re uploaded teh 2.8.1 files and voila.
Great!! Thanks Andy!!
Was this really great! Thanks Andy.
hey..unfortunately, in the wp admin, bp update doesnt point out that you should upgrade wpmu first. I updated bp first and wpmu stopped working, just shows the empty white screen. i’m copy pasting stuff trying to keep my database but couldnt get it to work yet.
Can you add an additional notice text to the upgrades that appear in the wpmu admin page if they require a prerequisite and/or specific order in the future?thanks
Is upgrading to 2.8.2 “safe”?
@Plrk:
It should be safe as 2.8.2 includes only changes in the comment template:
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?new=11729%40branches%2F2.8&old=11706%40branches%2F2.8
Oops! Sorry Plrk!
I was looking at WordPress standard 2.8.2!
WordPress MU 2.8.2 includes the comment template fixes + a couple of core fixes to the WPMU functions.
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?new=11729%40branches%2F2.8&old=11706%40branches%2F2.8
Upgrade on a test box first!
It would help if I posted the right MU changelog right? 😉
https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/changeset?new=trunk%401899&old=trunk%401863
i realized that in the demo website http://testbp.org/, there is a problem with sidebar widget “members”. When you click on the profile names the URL is not correct? Will this happen if i upgrade to 1.0.3?
Also, i see in the demo site that there is “new status update” that also appears in the sitewide activity. Is this something new and comes with 1.0.3 version? Because I don’t have status update thing with 1.0.2?
Thanks for any help!
WordPress MU 2.8.1 and BuddyPress 1.0.3 have change, it very great. However, All The BuddyPress Theme is not available for use. Please check again and update it. I use it in http://hoitublog.com . You can test it there.
Thanks

I’m so excited in version 1.4! And hoping for status update. Thanks to all the developer out there and specially to Andy Peatling.

All of my WPMu/BP sites are now properly updated, thank you. …. 🙂
However …. Some BuddyPress themes (and lord knows there aren’t very many themes yet!!) now seem to have an issue: When a member uploads a new avatar, the avatar cropping function is wonky, the crop box kinda jumps around in the header area … and the crop can’t be saved. So it looks like some of the theme designers will need to make revisions for their themes to work with 1.0.3….
This issue does not occur with the default BuddyPress theme, so that’s what all my BP sites are using right now …
I posted above about having my wpmu blog crash after using the auto plugin upgrade feature to upgrade to Buddypress 1.0.3 without first upgrading to wpmu 2.8.1. I had a dead blog, and received no answers here, but I did figure it out on my own. I was in a real fix of my own making because I did not back up my blog. So, in case it can help someone else, this is what I did to get my blog back:
(1) First, I exported my database to a folder on my harddrive.
(2) Made a new blank database with a new user and password.
(3) Made a temorary folder and moved ALL plugins, including Buddypress out of the plugin folder.
(4) Deleted the .htaccess and wp-config files.
(5) Ran setup in my browser like it was a new blog ( i.e. browsed to /blogpath/index.php).
(6) With the old version of wpmu activated but empty, I changed the admin password to the same one I used in the old blog, and then upgraded to wpmu 2.8.2.
(7) Moved Buddypress back into the plugin folder.
(7) Imported the old database into the new one.
(8) Moved the rest of my plugins back into the plugin folder.
And that’s it. I now have the blog back and all users, posts, comments, files, and css are magicaly restored. Actually, since I only deleted two files, and saved my database, they were always there. Now if I can just figure out how to get my bloggers back. The blog in question is at http://www.blogsterfiles.com if any one wants to take a look.
P.S. It didn’t help that my comment here was left in moderation for several days, until it was so far up the list, no one noticed. Not griping mind you, just a comment on the practicality issue.
Thanks for Buddypress, and for this Community Blog. Both are great, and I am happy to have them! 🙂
P.S.S. I’m no expert, so if you find yourself in the same predicament, be sure and run these instructions past one of the experts before trying it at home.
white screen of death… have no idea what to do. 🙁
[snip] Please ask support questions on the forums [/snip]
have to do a complete reinstall of WPMU, bbpress and buddypress after this update was activated. it made my website completely disappear. 🙁 i hope that after reinstalling that it sees what’s in the database, or everyone’s blogs…
this isn’t a question, it’s just letting you know something is definitely wrong but i have no idea what it is. the last update to 1.0.2 worked brilliantly. thought this would too. i’ll cross my fingers that a reinstall works.
