In reply to: Subdomain support in BP
Nope, that;s the way to do it.
In reply to: Buddypress on WordPress vs WordPress MUYes, I meant what techguy said.
If the original OP{ was using extra plugins for BuddyPress that gathered and used information across the site/network/whatever, then *those* items may not work properly if he downgrades to single WP.Because you know someone’s gonna have a BP install with every extra BP plugin out there installed, will downgrade from MU to WP, then come back here screaming that stuff broke.
I could also point to another thread where a user is wonder where the “recent siteiwde posts” widget is, but he’s running single WP not MU, so that’s why it doesn’t show up.(tangent: some mu functions did get renamed in 3.0 but the current functions still exist. They are listed as deprecated though, so at some point plugins authors will need to catch up.
There’s also the fuzzy meaning of the word “features”. ;P )
And yes, waiting until 3.0 will make downgrading SO much easier…
In reply to: Several buddypress sites on one WPMU installation.Like we’ve said in previous thread, BuddyPress is not currently network-aware. Everyone across the install will have their profile across the network(s).
Right now, if you want them completely separated, you need separate installations.
In reply to: Buddypress on WordPress vs WordPress MU“or will my site loose any features?”
If you have any extra plugins that pull in sitewide features from across blogs, you might.
In reply to: Is there a plugin for sitewide comments?@skcsknathan001 thank you so much for updating this.
I’ll test.In reply to: BuddyPress Default theme for bbPress@dainismichel @Artruro you guys are posting this all publicly. we can see those passwords.
In reply to: How to add a widget in a Post?You can’t.
In reply to: WordCamp San Francisco – Any BP Peeps Going?I won’t be there but @wpmuguru will be.
Might need to put in the cookie domain lines in your config file, because yes, you should be logged in across the board.
In reply to: enable theme 1.2 sitewideWhat theme is active on all the member blogs now?
In reply to: Buddymatic 1.2Stick buddypress from the end of the line of tags to the front?
Stab in the dark here.
In reply to: Install on MU or regular WP?The real issue mentioned in the original post is the plugin;s menu item is added to an MU-specifc admin menu.
While some of the other plugins mentioned DO reply on the multiple blogs, the demo data creator one really should detect.
I’ve never been able to make it work right.
In reply to: All blogs on the same main site?Edit the them you;re using for the sub-blogs. Change the menus to pull in your main blog’s menus.
just before the nav bar code put
<?php switch_to_blog(1); ?>
right after the navbar code put
<?php restore_current_blog(); ?>
then it will always show the pages from Blog #1.
In reply to: spammer delete: The Nuclear OptionRe #3 – if that record is deleted, they can sign up again using the exact same info. That record tho, is never displayed anywhere else.
Really, the mass deletion of spammers shoudl be handled on the WordPress end, as ultimately that’s the menu your’re using.
Without going and checking, I *think* you can sort the blogs/users so the spammers are all on one page, select all and delete all in one go.
For more than a screenful, I do it with a SQL command right in the database.
In reply to: Buddypress link structureSends them all to admin’s link?
In reply to: Logo In The Admin Bar“how do we remove the actual words there”
Also via css.
display:none;
In reply to: Shoebombing BuddyPress hijacks root WordPress urlsBuddyPress works in a WordPress install – so in the /community/folder there has to be a WP install you’re posting from. It is not a stand-alone script.
Look at the HTML source of the page, it says:
<meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.9.2" />When I go to your main install at the actual root, those menu items on the front of your site are off the root blog.
You have another blog at /community/ as well as BuddyPress. Did you, perchance, install this using SimpleScripts?
In reply to: Adding blog tab on WP/BP installNo…. if you’re on single WordPress there is only one blog.
When someone updates, that is a blog post, not a “blog”. (misused terminology there)
And yes, you can have a tab that says “blog”. the tabs are just html/css really. they show different Pages created from the backend.
In reply to: Adding blog tab on WP/BP installThe blog tab shows the blog posts from the main site, not from everyone. And only if you;re using MU, not single WP.
You can aggregate all the blog posts into one using a plugin though.

Love this.
This whole thread should be stickied and required reading.
I’d like to stop making comparisons to Facebook. (yes, mea culpa ;P)
It can be bigger (or smaller as in tight-knit)
it can be better
It can be *different*
than Facebook.
I don’t think we’re looking for a facebook clone of any sort. Not long term.
In reply to: Is anyone using the Genesis Buddy Child Theme?Thanks for the kind words.
Dunno if you close or mark threads resolved, but this one is.
In reply to: Having trouble with Alignment.This bit:
<?php get_header(); ?>
<div class="span-24" id="contentwrap">
<div class="span-16">
<div id="content">Look at the buddypress files added to your theme. They will have just the content div. Add the other two and the closing divs.
You have to wrap what you want to show in a function.
They both have to be in the SAME PAGE.
<?php
if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
echo 'Welcome, registered user!';
} else {
echo 'Welcome, visitor!';
};
?>Don;t paste this code directly in a post. you’ll have to put it in a page template.
