    First off, make a child theme so you can hack that to pieces.

    1. Copy header.php into the child theme too.

    Find this spot:

    `<body <?php body_class() ?> id=”bp-default”>

    <?php do_action( ‘bp_before_header’ ) ?>`

    Put a <div id”banner”> </div> in there. This will be your new header, whcih we’re calling banner because header & log are used already.

    (Note: yes, i know we could probably hook into the bp_before_header, put I’m going for easy.)

    Open up style.css in your child theme (you moved a copy there when you made the child theme.)

    Add

    #banner {
    width:100%;
    background: url (yourbannerimage.jpg)
    height: 200px; /* the height of your new banner */
    }

    You may need to tweak that, but that’ll be enough to get you started.

    2. Shrink the header. Again, pure css here.

    #header { 50px }

    This will make it half as high as it is now.

    3. Move tabs.

    These are positioned absolutely via css. remove that, and wow, they go right about where you want them.

    ul#nav {postion:relative; }

    that’s the css you need.

    4. not mentioned but illustrated: moving the bp admin bar to a weird spot.

    The way this works is it “hooks” into the footer and is positioned fixed at the top of the page via css. I’m kinda stumped on this one, as anything I change moves it to the bottom again. It;s designed to be at the top of the page. It;s not a menu within the flow of the HTML.

    That’s all I can give you, really. Please get firefox and the Firebug extension. I found most of this in a few mintues becasue that’s what I use. (and I’m familiar with the css anyway… :P )

    If you’re in MU, they absolutely have to be added to the Site Admins list under the Site Admin -> Options list. Since you did it in the db, you’ll also need to add the name in the site meta table.

    I got it guys. :) We’re in a different time zone too. :D

    They can still write *posts* to their activity stream. The word blog refers to the whole wordpress.com-like blog.

    Not when someone logs in and writes an update. that is a post, not a blog.

    And wordpresschina, BuddyPress works on single WP installs right now.

    The white and orange one? Yeah, it;s in trac in the older tagged versions.

    No idea how well it works with the latest. there’s a backwards compatibility plugin out there tho.

    If you did that, you’d have exactly the same BP on every single site – no separation of users.

    mrjarbenne – no worries, man. Just fillin’ you in so next time you have all the info. :)

    mercime – thanks. I need to get crackin’ but I’m waiting for official beta.

    mrjarbenne – you will not need to reinstall. Like djpaul stated, a regualr WP install will only need to add a line to the config file, THEN they can enable the network and have multiple blogs (which will be called sites)

    All in one WP install? In 3.0?

    Pretty much default behaviour.

    “we are hoping the WP3.0 convergence will be a real one…”

    I can assure you, it is a “real” one. All of the functionality of MU is retained in 3.0. you know you can get a beta version,. right?

    As to if it works better with wp wishlist…. like I said, the functionality is the same. The merging will force the plugins devs to account for the network of sites being enabled.

    “Am i missing something? “

    Yes. As stated in a few threads, the extra bp folders that are added to your theme, need to be edited. You have to open up those files, look for the div=content and change them to match your exisiting theme.

    It’s mostly copy& paste grunt work. no css edits, just changing/adding any needed divs.

    @andrea_r

    Yeah, you need to make a copy fo the default (or a child theme) and hack that to pieces for what you want.

    Putting in a widget area is only do-able by hardcoding it where you want it.

    @andrea_r

    Well, I didn’t mention most of the current user role management plugins as they are mostly not aware of the site admin role and the subtleties therein. :)

    Your regualr WP dashboard is used primarily for blog-specific features. You still need it to write blog posts & pages, moderate blog comments, and admin your site.

    BP only controls the social networking portions and displays it on the frontend only.

    @andrea_r

    I agree there is a need for a user role just under Site Admin.

    I don’t think the BP team needs to address it though. I also think it should be plugin based.

    User roles internal to WordPress are due for an overhaul, but it’s been pushed back a bit.

    You could sort of tackle this via the Menus plugin for MU. That’d be a bit kludgey though.

    I’ve been playing around with it for a bit. DM me your email & I’ll send what I have.

    “If you ask andy or lots others here should know, you need to disable buddypress body classes.”

    You have to replace them, and Mystique have extra divs.

    And use the new blog defaults plugin to set this themes as the default.
