Did you read the error logs?
In reply to: Hide main theme from usersA plugin of some sort, a stray trailing slash filled in by you…
In reply to: Is this a plugin?If you install BP on your main domain, you’ll get by default yoursite.com/members/ for things like the members page.
Poke around testbp.org & see how it’s laid out.
In reply to: Hide main theme from usersSee the extra slash it;s utting in the URL? That’s your problem.
In reply to: buddy-maticNo, I mean the theme will be updated to work with BP 1.2. You won’t have to mod any files.
We’re planning on getting to it this weekend.
In reply to: Hide main theme from usersYes, it does. The groups & forums use bbpress. The MU part only manages additional blogs.
In reply to: template compatibilitydid you make sure you had the matching amount of closing divs?
Do you have a link to code where I can see (don’t paste it in the forum please, it’s too hard to read)
And to reiterate – don’t change your page.php template. Change the BP ones.
In reply to: Hide main theme from users“When someone wants to create a blog the url he gets is http://hisblog/mydomain.com/mywpbp, which of course won’t work. Any solution? “
You didn’t install MU correctly and make sure it was working first.
But really, if you just wanted the main blog, then install regualr WordPress with BuddyPress.
In reply to: template compatibilityAt the top of your page.php file ;
<?php get_header(); ?>
<div id="content">
<div id="contentleft">
<div class="postarea">And at the top of the BP page:
<?php get_header() ?>
<div id="container">
<div id="content">See the difference? Now make the BP templates have the same divs as your page.php.
In reply to: Hide main theme from usersGo to the Site Admin menu -> Themes and disable them there.
It does not deactivate the themes, it removes them from the Appearances tab.
In reply to: Migrating users from WordPress to BuddyPress“In WP v3.0, WordPress MU will be merged with the single WP installation and there will be a migration path.”
Unless you are merging together more than one standalone WP install into one multisite network, in 3.0 there will be no need to migrate anything to turn on multiple blogs (ie; multiple sites).
In reply to: big problem with wordpress theme and buddypress@Scotm that codex page no longer gives details on tweaking the files, it just points to the plugin.
@maxell – when you set up the plugin it had instructions on page 3. You have to take the extra folders & files that are added to your theme, and make the divs & html match up to your original wp theme.
In reply to: How to control spam registration?“As there were no sensible options for allowing users to signup but not take blog until a member “
There’s a plugin for that:
http://wpmututorials.com/plugins/socialpress-user-signup-plugin/
Jim Groom as well.
Because you can’t sign up directly to a member blog in MU, you must sign up on the main site first.
In reply to: Deleting Users Best PracticesUsers > Add Users is for adding exisitng or new users to that blog.
Site Admin > Users is for adding users to the entire site, to the whole system.
If you want to really delete a user, do it from Site Admin -> Users.
In reply to: All users recent blogs to front page?If you’re using MU, the best thing to do is go check and see if I wrote a tutorial on it already.

and https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-featured-posts/
In reply to: Describe “what you get,†please!“1. Do these blogs share the identities of users, or do you have to register for each one separately?”
The userbase is shared. This is the part BP inherits from MU.
2. Disable how? Either BP is set to run sitewide (and show admin bar everywhere with the profiles in one spot) or it;s set on one blog, thus not appearing on other blogs.
3. short of writing a book, I’m not sure what else can be added.
In reply to: Brand new install of 1.2 with wpmu 2.9.1angeljs – make sure mod_rewrite is working on your server and is reading the pretty permalinks in your install.
In reply to: The best options for a newbie…The profiles are the buddypress parts.
In reply to: buddy-maticIf you can hang on a bit, the theme will be updated for 1.2 soon.
In reply to: Adding functions.php to theme breaks siteblack page = errors. There’s an error in your functions.php somewhere, I’d say.
If you;re making a *child* theme, and you place a copy of the original theme’s functions’ file in your child theme, it WILL white-out your site. Because the child is *already* pulling the functions file.
putting it in there is like putting it in there twice. hence the error. If you find your server error logs, I’m sure they’ll say “can’t redeclare and other duplicate function notices.
In reply to: Installing buddypress as a SubdomainLooks right to me. You got the whole “do this on the SECONDARY blog” part in there.
In reply to: Better user management capabilities“Many spammer IP addresses resolve to the country of Afghanistan. “
Ban their IPs at the server level. Less work for you, less processing for the system.
In reply to: Can\’t activate BP default themeWhat version of WPMU are you both on?
